But, you don't have to play Mario Kart with motion controls at all no matter which controller you use.

[up] I also really dislike the straps.

Also, my hands are big and the joycons are small. I prefer keeping them in either the grip or the Switch itself. It just feels a bit cramped for me to use the Joycons on their sides.

I just have a preference here.

Third-party Nvidia based PC streaming software coming to the Switch alongside other platforms soon; beta starts next month.

Comments from the developer.

[up] And thus, no one can say Nintendo doesn't get 3rd Party support anymore (even if you have to get the game indirectly through PC).tongue

Heck, that would mean most of Microsoft's software will also be on the Switch.

Note that this means you need a fairly strong DirectX11-compatible PC (able to both play the game and record the footage), a stable internet connection, and a Nintendo Switch.

The majority of people will not be able to manage most of that.

Depends on the game you want to stream to your Switch. Have you ever streamed a game on Twitch? Similar idea here (except your internet connection needs to be even better than that to allow smooth control).

The recording and uploading places extra stress on the PC.

I've got a super-beefy 32gb-RAM computer. Maybe I should start doing some streaming once this comes out...

Got me a Hori case for my switch. Will be handy for holidays. No cartridge pouches though.

On that streaming app: Would Nintendo even be okay with that?

Would be cool if they were fine with it. I don't think they ever made a fuss over livestreaming.

My thought is, if you could buy an indie on the PC and stream it on a Switch, would that disincentivize people from getting a port of that game on the eShop? Hell, would they want people streaming emulators to the Switch?

Do we know he has Nintendo's approval? I feel like there are many reasons they would say no.

Anyway, I went back to the store and got a better Hori Case that actually has cartridge compartments. A bit pissed I didn't check first, but at least there was no price difference.

I need a case too.

Partially for transport and for the fact my house is super dusty.

I got that one really nice RDS Industries case that you can basically put your entire Switch setup in. It's very nice. Sturdy, can fit my entire Switch, dock and all, and two pairs of joycons, one pair attached to the Switch and the other pair attached to the joycon grip.

Stardock will not support the Switch because it's "too different" They also claim Nintendo doesn't need third party support. Doesn't seem like that much of a loss, this is the first time I'm even hearing of the company.

With small companies, their games are typically more famous than the company. In case anyone else doesn't know Stardock, this isn't a nobody, these are the Sins of a Solar Empire, Fallen Enchantress and Offworld Trading Company guys. They're among the few non-AAAs who can get away with charging $40, having been around since 1991.

Anyway, one company deciding not to capitalize on the (PRESENTLY) barren Switch library is no big deal in the long run.

[up]So why would we care about them anyway? Those games are all PC games. What big console games have they done?

burnpsy Since: Sep, 2010

You act as if it doesn't matter how big their games are because they don't do console. That is a laughable position.

That said, it is true that their chosen specialty genre doesn't commonly go to consoles.

Yeah, if they don't already develop for consoles on a regular basis it's not a surprise that they'd pass on the Switch.

They don't traditionally even do console stuff anyway, so I'm not sure why this is newsworthy. I mean, if EA said that I'd be more concerned, but Stardock is best known for their PC strategy games and software.

Not to rag on them because they're a good developer, but I wasn't expecting them to offer support in the first place, I never thought about them among potential Switch developers, and I'm not even sure anyone was demanding support from them. I'm more surprised this came up.

Can't even imagine playing Sins of the Solar Empire with a controller, yeeesh.

Wonderboy has been fun so far, very much a retro platformer. Switching between modern and retro graphics really makes you appreciate just how much detail was poured into the remake.

I can imagine playing an RTS with a touch screen though... but that'll make them more ideal for IOS/Android.

It's not pretty. Most touch screen devices are too small to make fine control of any kind easy much less good. Turn based strategy a la Advance Wars works better but the user interface needs to be built from the ground up for it.

Looking forward to Mario Kart, though it'll probably be a month or two before I get it. Clearing my PC backlog at the moment.
