General Godzilla Discussion

I don't know, I've watched neither of those shows. Evangelion looks too weird and Attack on Titan looks too depressing.

anno has directed and written for live action films before, and i heard they were at least pretty interesting, although i believe this is his first big budget thing.

higuchi was hired mostly BECAUSE of his live action experience directing the effects of the gamera films, i think. he also happened to direct the attack on titan movie, and some other stuff.

eva is both depressing and weird.

Evangelion is total mind screw with bogus Christian symbolism, from what I hear, and has been compared to Twin Peaks (made by the King of Mind Screw, David Lynch). End of Evangelion sounds like something right out of Adventure Time's trippiest episodes (hell, I think they referenced it once in the episode You Forgot Your Floaties with someone speaking something but no words were heard, but apparently it was pretty damn important).

the religious imagery is mostly there to look cool yeah.

Japan has barely anything resembling religious beliefs from what I understand, and Christianity is treated as a fad or something, I believe, right?

there's a minority of actual christians, but imagery and names from the abrahamic religions tend to show up in works because they're foreign and exotic.

End of Evangelion is... an experience. All of Eva is really, but I'm not sure how else to describe it. But yeah, one of the (very many) infamous and most speculated about moments in the film is a muted line from the Big Bad moments before killing the person they are speaking to.

Basically that. One of the staff members said they would have considered a different religion had they known how popular it would become in the West.

Yeah, a lot of people compared Adventure Time's sixth season to Evangelion (both in positive and negative terms). It was tripper than everything else before it, and it was definitely controversial amongst the fanbase.

Let me put it this way: If Eva makes sense to you, and/or you feel better after watching it, there is something wrong with you. If Eva doesn't make sense to you, and/or you don't feel better after watching it, there was something right with you.

They said his final form will look more like a Traditional Godzilla.

But I can see why, since it would help make a Solo godzilla movie a bit more easier swallow in today's day and age.

Theory. The first form will be 1954 size, the second form with Heisei era size, and the final will be the size given in the press release of 118 meters tall.

Anyone think the international marketing will play up the fact that this is from the creator of arguably one of the biggest animes out there?

You know, be all like "From the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion"?

I know, but I don't get if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Well, Godzilla's kind of an iconic Japanese concept, and China and Japan don't exactly get along amazingly well, so it might not go over too well in Japan.

Kind of like how Americans might feel if China or Saudi Arabia got intellectual property rights over Superman.
