Alright good. Now does anyone have any questions about the setting itself? What year is it, why man is leaving Earth, stuff like that.

Actually yeah that was starting to bug me. Was there a catastrophe of some sorts?

Well combine overpopulation and a quickly diminishing lack of resources needed for life and boom. It is sadly time to leave. Humanity loaded up what they could and set out for the stars. Haven was a planet with the best Earth like conditions, and the general hope is that humanity may one day return to Earth and repair what damage has been done.

Sort of like Wall-E except there are no hover chairs or cutsey robots.

Ah I see, so there is no absolute promise of what's at Haven then?

-puts hover chairs and cutesy robots on Professor Proton's list of things to build-

So, we're an exploratory ship instead of a colony ship? What size was the crew before the crash? I'm guessing around fifty?

52 if you counted Adam the Ship's main AI and the medical AI.

And no there is no promise. A colony ship contained what life was applicable including animals and plants.

Exploratory ships were the front line of sorts. Sent out to find the planet and confirm if it was safe with a beacon built for the colony ships.

What about the universe in general? Has humanity made first contact? I guess not if they need to colonize some distant planet they know almost nothing about. That doesn't exclude aliens though.

Nah no Alien life so far. We didn't get out that far. So no alien contacts in this story.

So, if general tech level is close to Metal Gear Rising does that mean cyborgs and androids are Raiden-tier? -hasn't actually played the game- That's somewhat perturbing. Given the entire slice a thing into a thousands pieces in like half a second and judo flipping giant robots.

Or is that all going to be toned down to maybe only beeing three or four times the ability of an upgraded human?

Oh yeah, what year is it? And how many years has the crew been in cyrosleep?

It has been heavily toned down. Don't expect to be able to backflip into insane combat moves.

And the year as to not totally date it is AE 0021. Well that's the last date you recall. The exact date will be revealed when the RP starts up.

AE being After Earth.

Alright, good to know.

So, rough time on how many years in the future this is?

A century at the very least. Warp drive ain't a thing since slow travel was more efficient.

How much BM would it take to construct a man portable railgun rifle?

What was the general political status of the planet before the mass exodus? Were we all united under one government? Were there still wars going on? How many people didn't leave Earth during the mass exodus? And was that due more to personal choice or resource issues?

Continuing on the above, could it be possible that the mission was sabotaged?

It'd be launcher level of BM to build a personal railgun.

As for Earth it was far from United, it was a veritable space race to get off a dying world and a new form of warfare arose. Sort of a corporate warfare where people would kill for the other side's plans. Many died which didn't help the resources issue.

Eventually people and the nations of the world gave up and formed a common cause to get off the planet and get humanity to safety. The alternative was death.

The only things that remain on earth are our collapsing buildings, and a few bodies of the dead.

I view this as a dark time for Humanity and the new age of Exploration to Haven as the age of the Space Opera setting.

I expect a few of our characters to at least recall Earth.

The Professor almost certainly does remember Earth. Assuming you are alright with it, I'm going to say he was one of if not the lead designer of the ship this RP is starting on.

That is perfectly fine. He is certainly not the captain. The captain died in Cryo when his pod was crushed by a asteroid.

I'm thinking Crashsat was assigned to the professor by the Ulterion Corp. as a commercial tie-in sort of thing. He's to serve as the professor's back up and prevent any sabotage to the ship, because sabotage is bad for profits and planets with viable habitats are good for profits. He's also a decorated warbot hero, thoguh humans don't recognize the achievments of individual killbots, just the whole lineup of bots from Ulterion Corp.

Sounds fine to me.

Anyways, I feel like the BM costs need to be reworked. A warship should not cost as much to construct as 25 assault rifles. It should probably be closer to 2500 rifles. Like I get that's being abstracted and stuff but still. I really feel like the costs for ships and stuff should be much higher.

Alright I will fix up the costs. 500 rifles at best because we already have enough complicated math going on.

So what was the human population at the time of departure from Earth?

And did we ever make any lunar colonies or try to terraform Mars before ditching our home solar system?

What about space colonies for that matter?

Well sure there were attempts. But none of them were as viable long term options as finding a new home. The resource issue was part of that.
