Yikes, that's a lot more critical than I expected.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?The game apparently is getting Love It or Hate It receptions.
Not exactly what we were hoping for and honestly is a pretty big blow to the public's trust in Kickstarter projects. There have been plenty of lower profile successes but people only remember the failures.
Wait until you see Jim fucking Sterling Son's . He absolutely tore it apart.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence.Granted, though, we haven't seen how the game is on the Switch yet, though I'm honestly surprised that there apparently are as many current issues as there are in the game thus far. At least it sounds like they're working on ironing out the issues, but this is a pretty shakey start for Yooka-Laylee and I hope this doesn't ruin the game's reputation.
"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"I honestly think that promising to deliver on a bunch of platforms is honestly a mistake. First MN 9 and now this.
No NO NO
This game is far from the failure that was Mighty Number 9,in fact I think the game is actually an example of kickstarters being successful, the reviews are far from all low,the ones I have seen have given it at least 8/10 which is far from terrible.
New theme music also a boxI'd say if anything it's proof that even a lot of seasoned developers just can't fucking handle the Unity engine.
Fear the cinnamon sugar swirl. By the Gods, fear it, Laurence. And here I thought it would live up to its name. We were having the Unity Engine hammered into our heads during my time at Game Dev.
Unity can work, but you gotta put in the effort. The demos for Freedom Planet 2 and Battle Princess Madelyn play very well and use 2d assets, something the engine wasn't properly built for.
"No will to break."Well, this is sad. I mean, I'm sure I'm going to like the game, but I trust both GameXplain and Jim Sterling and all I can say is, it's too bad the game isn't as good as it looked.
Eh, this makes it a little easier to wait for the Switch release, I guess. Not to undermine the criticism, much of which I'm sure it's legitimate, but given how much joy the Rare guys have given me over the years, I'm willing to chalk up their rustiness to the fact that they hadn't made a game like this in decades. I'm sure the next one will be better.
Is that a Wocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?Anytime a game gets below a 7/10 people freak out. I'm sure the game is fine, just not perfect
I personally still want the game, too. I can deal with the occasional frame rate problems.
And the Switch version is yet to be seen...
"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"Why are we under the expectation that the Switch version is going to better in any way?
I dunno, maybe I'm just being overly optimistic, I guess.
Maybe they've noticed the issues that the Xbone version (and possibly the PS 4 version as well) is having and are fixing them for the Switch version, maybe? I dunno. We'll just have to wait and see.

"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"The Wii U was the console the game was originally designed for, which got moved to the Switch due to technical issues. Since they're both Nintendo consoles and were originally meant for just that it's not unreasonable to think that build is what they put the most effort into.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Anecdotally it seems like ports of glitchy games tend to themselves be more glitchy, since they have to deal with the base level of technical issues that come with porting before existing bugs/performance issues can even come into it. I'd temper expectations.
The reviewers I've seen have been less polarized and more "there's fun to be had but technical and design issues". Seems like it speaks less to Love It or Hate It (disclaimer: I think that label is overused) and more to people appreciating the core and presentation but feeling like it has enough problems to hurt a good time.
Text I feel is necessary to append to every post.I never trust reviewers (or other people for that matter), and PC basically has no other N64-style platformers aside from Psychonauts, so I'm still looking forward to it. As for Jim Sterling, well I find it's best to actually flip his reviews. He gives it an 80 as far as I'm concerned.

Every bad thing that Jim Sterling seems to say about the game is that it's a mid-90s 3D platformer... which is pretty much exactly what I want the game to be.
From what I can tell he hates every game that I enjoy and visa versa. The fact that he hates something for being a 90's platformer doesn't surprise me. I think he's done the same thing before.
So it kind of sounds like the biggest problem (the camera) could be fixed in a patch relatively easily.
If that's really it's biggest problem, then that's fine. Even cameras like the ones in 3D Sonics don't bother me much.
Yeah, I can deal with a finicky camera. I still got plenty of enjoyment out of Epic Mickey despite its infamously wonky camera.
"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"I have a feeling the gaming culture is about to enter another Rare-bashing phase, only now Banjo-Kazooie is the thing we're all supposed to pretend is "overrated" and "always sucked," like Donkey Kong Country in the mid-2000s.
