See, I'd do it the other way around. Medium/Title for the work, then Medium/Titleandunbearablylongsubtitletotheworkthattakeswaytoolongtotypeouteverytimeatroperwantstoaddanexampleonaworkpage as a redirect. If a namespace collision issue comes up later, you switch to the established redirect.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I've been wondering myself and I asked ~The One Who Tropes over PM; I was concerned that they were moving wicks from alternative medium redirects to the main medium article, which is questionable (having wicks from medium-specific examples point to a redirect makes splitting off medium-specific work pages easier); but apparently it wasn't that.
For what it's worth, unless there are a number of inbounds, I always by default accept cut requests on Main/-to-work redirects.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynmanat least one thing I'm going to have to do is go through the Anime and Manga redirects for redirects that are not shortened but misspelled. Quite a few have variant spellings of the Japanese title, Quite a lot of the ones that I cutlisted had no wicks, and no inbounds. But I'm sticking to Main/ to Work/ for now.
Keeper of The Celestial FlameGenerally speaking, Medium/Work should be the redirect and Medium/WorkTheSubtitle should be the article. Previously established Main/Work and Main/WorkTheSubtitle redirects should both point to Medium/WorkTheSubtitle.
However, this isn't always the case. If the subtitle isn't in common English use (VideoGame/PandorasTower, not VideoGame/PandorasTowerUntilIReturnToYourSide) or if the subtitle is unofficial in the first place (Series/Angel, not Series/AngelTheSeries) the page should be at the shortened title, so the redirects should point there as well.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.
The One Who Tropes has been cutting \"unused\" redirects to work pages left and right. Many of these cut redirects were not in Main/, and few would fall afoul of the other proscriptions set out in Creating New Redirects. In particular, I think alternate-namespace redirects which pertain to adaptations in other media should be not only permitted but encouraged.
Despite the not-further-explained prohibition on redirects for \"abbreviations\" (which I believe mostly applies to acronyms), I actually think it should be acceptable to use redirects for conventional shortenings of titles if there is no conflict. I\'m probably not the only one who\'d prefer to type Medium/Title than remember to put in Medium/TitleAHorribleSubtitleOfUnbearableLength.
