I think I actually know of a trope that isn\'t found on this website.

I call it, \"Surprise! Twins!\" but the \"surprise\" element isn\'t always present.

I used to see this a fair bit. The protagonist\'s wife/daughter would be expecting a baby and surprise! it turn out to be boy-girl twins. If it was a cartoon, the boy would almost always come out looking like the momma and the girl looked like the daddy. In movies, if there was time, the twins would follow in their gender-opposite parent\'s footsteps.

I know I\'ve seen this half a dozen times at least but its been a while. I don\'t watch a whole lot of television anymore so I can only come up with few specific examples.

First example was a Flintstones special where Pebbles and Bam-Bam had boy-girl twins. The little boy was a redhead and the little girl did the \"BAM BAM\" thing almost immediately after birth.

Second example is the movie GIANT where the married couple had twins and the girl grew up to take over the ranch and the boy married a Mexican girl (thereby taking after his mother who insisted that the mexican farmhands be treated far better than they had been)

A variation of this trope is where two people (relatives, close friends or associates of some kind) will have babies almost at the same time. And one will be a boy and the other will be a girl. A definite examples of this is Arnold schwarzenegger movie, \"Junior\".

I almost included \"Father of the Bride Part 2\" as an example but IIRC, it was the main character\'s wife and *daughter* both had babies (one boy and one girl, of course). if it had been his wife and daughter-in-law, that might be different.

I\'ve definitely seen this trope in other places. I\'m sure if I looked around I could probably find more examples.

But I\'m a new user and I don\'t want to step on any toes by creating a page for this trope prematurely. So if someone could help me out, that would be very much appreciated.

Greetings,

the place to work on new tropes is called YKTTW. Good luck!

Might want to check in the Trope Finder whether it does exist here at all, too.
