Really liking it so far. Yet the location hook caused me to be confused. For a second, I thought it was going to be a anthology adventure series but I can handle Puss being in one town.
One of the few things that miffs me is that the female cat looks odd compared to Puss. If they shrunk her eyes, the design wouldn't be distracting.
Eric Buaza is really doing a lot of voices and does a spot-on performance of Banderaz. With this entire Spanish tone and Buaza's voice work, I'm getting El Tigre vibes. Especially the layout of the town makes me think of Book of Life.
I haven't seen this show yet, but IIRC, some of the guys who did this show also did The Book of Life.
That explains so much. No wonder Professor Utonium was dragged onto this.
I'm surprised that there's heartwarming moments from the five episodes I saw. Now that I've seen them, the whole placement of this one town really works. It kind of reminds me of how Turbo Fast in placed in a insect city as well. It helps the writers, I suppose.
Anyone notice that aside from background citizens, the character designs look a bit more cartoony than they usually do in the Shrek franchise? I kind of like it.
Yeah, it's weird how some of the townspeople still have those Shrek-eyes while others have more expressive eyes.
I can see what my father was saying. Dulcina's eyes bug me out due to them being rounded compared to Puss's but it's nothing horrible.
Paul Rugg is always a plus to have in your cast.
Also, episode 5 has a personal favorite trope of mine, the nice character who never gets angry... getting angry. Always fun see the normally positive character strain a smile until all that rage comes out.
I was really happy at Dulcinea to do that. Jack Sprat was getting on my nerves.
Someone pointed this out on the Behind the Voice Actors website. Three of the four ninja pig brothers in episode 3 are voiced by actors (Greg Cripes, Robbie Rist, Mikey Kelley) who have all played the role of Michelangelo in Ninja Turtles. I knew Greg when I heard him but I didn't know they went THAT far with the Actor Allusion. I wonder if this was Andrea Romano's idea. Well, whoever it was, bravo.
Edit: Also, the Sphinx in episode 2 reminded me of a giant spider character in an episode of Hercules the Animated Series. Both are immortal creatures who are tasked with guarding something but have the attitude of teenage girls and are bored with their jobs.

The only decent child among the four orphans is Esme. Kid Pickles comes in 2nd place (his voice needs work). The other two are just pure gonk.....
And has anyone noticed scene in episode 2, where the four orphans and standing next to three nameless correctly porportioned children? What was up with that?
Overall, I want to know what the creators were smoking when thy came up with this series. This series is so awkward, I had to sit through The True Story of Puss n' Boots (William Shatner) just to see if it fared any better. It was still a no-win situation for both. I actually cringe while watching this series. It just doesn't make any sense.
There should be a page with this series. The Actor Allusion of the ninja pigs is too good to pass up.
I read that Doug Langdale, this series' showrunner, was originally planning to have five-episode story arcs in the show, but he said that he and the other writers scrapped that as they realized that they couldn't follow up a series of movies with another series of movies, to paraphrase him. I think that may be why it may not be so good. link: http://blogs.indiewire.com/animationscoop/first-look-dreamworks-netflix-original-the-adventures-of-puss-in-boots-20150105
"You can run, but you can't hide from the Buzzinator!"New episodes are up!
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Watching 6th episode. Apparently, Puss' mentor was a Spanish Jim Cummings cat. I approve.
Watched the latest episodes. It was cute hearing Wander as a wishing star.
Didn't expect the animation to get so pretty towards the end.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).FYI, a new season (or rather, the remaining 11 episodes of the episode pick up) is now up!
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).This show any good?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. It's alright.
Started watching this series on a whim. Pleasantly surprised to find it's pretty darn good - good characters with actual development, decent arcs, self referential humor (among other kinds of humor), pretty neat all around.
Between this and Race to the Edge, Dreamworks' Netflix tv animations are pretty on point. And hey, it's getting new episodes at the end of the month.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I still need to see the choose-your-own-adventure episode sometime.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).I watched the show a few weeks ago. Decent enough, perhaps not that stand-out. But I do respect how much continuity it has, and the last's season's arc was well done.
I wonder what led to Turbo F.A.S.T ending with the third season, when most of Dreamwork's other Netflix shows still have episodes in productions.
Either Netflix and/or Dream Works Animation execs hated it, or the series was contracted for 52 episodes, rather than 78 like the others. After all, this is both the first Netflix original kids series and the first Netflix original animated show.
"You can run, but you can't hide from the Buzzinator!"Ah, hadn't thought about how many episodes it might've been contracted for.
Ah well. I miss it, but season three wasn't as good as the first two.
Was Turbo FAST good? I never caught it because I didnt like the movie.

Dream Works' new Netflix Original cartoon came out today! What does anyone think about this show? If you want my opinion, I saw all five episodes today, and I thought they were okay. Here is the link for the cartoon: http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/80018988
