The Devil Kings' Domains

Story Hook

In a certain fantasy world, an unlikely set of threats hold the helpless populace hostage to their whims and rule with an iron fist: Heroes, Adventurers, and even Churches of Light. After the forces of Darkness had run out of treasures and such to loot, these protectors of humanity turned their sights upon their fellow men and now use their considerable power to rule. Kings and emperors bow to their whims as puppet rulers as these tyrants use their god given powers to prosper from the commoners and nobility alike, striking down any and all dissent with superhuman abilities given to champions corrupted by hubris and power.

Hope sprung out from an unlikely source though: the sole remaining Demon Lord that held out after his fellows fell. He wasn't as strong as the others but he was a lot smarter, biding his time and gathering resources while attention was riveted somewhere else. Sacrificing himself in a powerful magical ritual, the ambient powers of Darkness were redirected and latched out onto new hosts to become the new Devil Kings: YOU- ordinary citizens of a parallel world called Earth.

Seeking out special individuals with above average qualities, dreams, aspirations, and ambitions, the Darkness opened portals to Earth to drag these willing hosts to the fantasy world known as Leaven. Now, these fledgeling Demon Lords must survive in a world where Light is evil and Darkness is not, wielding powers that will grow alongside their own experiences. Will you be able to establish a Dark Kingdom, or die by the blades of the "righteous"? Only you can answer that question.

Brief Explanation

This is basically a game based off series that run off of not so bad demons akin to Disgaea, along with Hataraku Maou-sama and Maou Maoyuu Yuusha thrown into the mix. The basic premise is that ordinary Earthlings are picked up and thrown into a fantasy land full of dragons, unicorns, talking swords, snarky wizards, and so on to establish a resistance against the tyrannous forces of light. Over the course of the rp, players will gain powers depending on what they do, what their characters are like, and so on which can range anywhere from laser vision to summoning meteors. The goal of the game is to pick up followers, build up a resistance, aid those need help, and maybe establish a Dark Kingdom or two. Also to have fun by engaging in over the top action and shenanigans. Also of note is the world runs on slight video game mechanics such as Levels and so on, though not to the extent that numbers dominate everything.

• Domains: The meat of the game. Granted to all Devil Kings by the powers of Darkness, it lets the players create certain special abilities corresponding to a specific field of interest. An example would be the [Sword] domain would grant special techniques accessed by the Devil King in question when they wield a weapon that could be defined as a sword, such as [Riposte] or [Parry]. The [Cooking] Domain could lead to [Molecular Gastronomy] technique. Eventually once they get to the higher end of the Domains, whereupon they can do ridiculous things like cook up giant flying spaghetti monsters or sword beam castles in half. For the moment though, choose four or less broad areas that the humans could feasibly learn on Earth to start things off and list things corresponding to that subject that could work as a particular technique. Your Devil Kings will be able to learn more as the game progresses. Another thing worth noting is that even if two different characters have the same Domain, not all the things in said Domain will by identical since characters are highly encouraged to seek their own unique "play style".

Name: George Allen
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Appearance: Never without a book.
Personality: George wants to know everything. Having been classified by his professors as an "eternal student", George's interests in academical learning stretch far and wide, with a particular interest in the humanities. After arriving in Leaven, he is less interested in throwing off the yoke of light as he is in learning all there is about magic, devils and demons. Easily flustered around pretty women.

History: George has had quite a peaceful life, with a stable family life and no getting in trouble. Ace student all his life, currently studying in London. Already finished with a Master's degree in History and a Bachelor in Biology, George was well under way with exploring a new-found interest in mythology and folklore when he was transported somewhere truly magical. Works as a barista next to his studies to afford more books.
Skills: Speed-reading, excellent memory, logical thinking and preparing hot drinks. Also speaks several languages, including Latin.

Domains: [Books] Mainly store away books (magical and non-magical) in a magical space from which he can summon them at any time, possibly learning how to magically travel between libraries. [Magic] While theoretical on Earth, studying medieval demonology and ancient rituals, this becomes more practical in Leaven. [Hot Drinks] Coffee? Tea? Cocoa? Maybe with some added magical effects?\\

• Name: Nexim Sten, nicknamed Nex.

• Age: 19

• Gender: Male

• Appearance: I STILL feel like I did a bad job with this

• Personality: Blunt and rude. Doesn't seem to care much for social interaction, stays hidden away from people. The entire Devil king business forced him to come into contact with things more, but it still seems he lacks social skills and can be misunderstood easily due to wrong word choices.

• History: Nex's that quiet kid at the back of the class nobody talks to because they're weirded out by him. He never seems to talk and only focuses on his work, never playing with other kids and always being distant. The ones that teased him often ended with a fight, which always got him punished by his parents. Enter middle school and Nex's still antisocial, not caring about anyone other than himself. The blonde didn't bat an eye left nor right and always headed straight home without talking to anyone when school ended. That's the thing though; At home his parents are less than pleasant. With his father being a drunken bastard who often hit him even at a young age and his mother always being too busy to care he hated every single person. It welled up a desire of escape, to which he got by reading up on past weaponry whenever his parents left Nex alone. The way to create them, their handle, balance, what they used in history to create them... Even combat manuals, from edge alignment to how to stand, it was fascinating. Nexim never got the chance to get his hands on any real weaponry, though, as the abusive parents would instantly find out and probably confiscate it. Once Nex turned 18 and finished highschool he got kicked out of the house and put on the street, his lack of socializing with people also making him unable to go anywhere. He was forced to take out a loan and live in an apartment, working a shitty job... Leaven came in the most angered part of his life, when he'd just wish he got a chance to work with everything he learned in the books Nex read and wanting to get back at his parents for the abusive life and putting him on the street.

• Skills: Nothing special, really. His quiet nature allows for easier times blending in with crowds and the knowledge on weaponry makes it at least plausible to know what to take with him, but otherwise nothing special nor remarkable.

• Domains:
  • [Egyptian-Medieval weaponry.] Nex' extensive knowledge makes him good with anything that came from these times, even without any practice.
  • [Silence] No, I'm not kidding. Even with his natural silence coming into this realm has made him able to make no sound when walking. Later this could lead to making entire areas unable to make a sound, preventing communication and throwing off a natural sense.

• Age: 34

• Gender: Male

• Appearance: The doctor will be seen by you now.◊

• Personality: While neither his occupation nor his ruthlessly pragmatic attitude would lead anyone to believe it, Adam actually is a relatively kind person who will do his best to avoid any unneccessary suffering. When among others his shyness coupled with his lack of social skills generally leads to him being the stereotypical weird loner. Adam actually would love to have some friends, he just has no idea how to get people to like him. Only rarely does he get angry and when it actually happens, then this anger is quick to subside again as well. In his free time he enjoys collecting a variety of things, mostly "Magic the Gathering" cards.

• History: Adam had always been a lonely person as far as he could remember. From Kindergarten on through Elementary and Highschool his lack of social skills left him ostractized. Due to his lack of friends he then had lots of time to study for school, giving him better grades, which only further worsened his problem with making friends. His parents meanwhile kept on telling him that it'd be better in college as he would meet like-minded people there. They were wrong. When Adam went to study medicine, he found that most others were there to help people and make the world a better place - or for the money at least. Adam however genuinely believed for the pathogens and ailments to be interesting, creeping out his peers. After graduating Adam then found employment as a pathologist at a local hospital, where he had been working until the Darkness opened a portal to Leaven for him.

  • [Death]: Raising and controlling the dead as various forms of undead and eventually on a high power level turning himself into a Lich.

Green eyes Pale skin He was average looking before, but after gaining power he became very handsome do to his domain Wears a [Badass in a Nice Suit nice suit]

• Personality: Very stoic and blunt, but never intentionally rude

He is capable of being very charming (see Domain) He also quite simply likes people and is very optimistic Despite not portraying them in the traditional sense, he is quite open about his emotions if you ask him

• History: Jack inherited his father's pawn shop after the man retired. He was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. Consistent throughout his life was a desire to help people. He loved the idea of being a hero, a real, not a tyrannical dick, hero. He was in the middle of a multi-thousand dollar deal when he was brought to the other world. His pawn shop was promptly looted by some words would be customers.

• Skills: In short, he can lie, manipulate, and see when he's being lied to and manipulated. He's also a top-notch diplomat and negotiater. He developed a modest (by PC standards) fighting skill as a matter of survival, as not many people like it when the local merchant rips them off. He carries a small dagger, but mainly fights with Improvised Weapons.

Domain: Salesmanship. Jack is a superhumanly skilled negotiater, being able to make blatantly one sided deals while the other party is fully aware that it is. He is also capable of making incredibly believable lies with no prep time, and even influence people into believing his transparent lies. He also can simply force someone to be open to negotiation, even while that person is swinging a sword at his head. Finally he is able to make an obviously bad idea sound like a great one.

@Nick: I'm going to have to veto your character due to the fact the chosen humans that come from modern day Earth and have lived semi-ordinary lifestyles at the most in terms of weirdness. Quirks and stuff are okay but that's a bit too out there.

@Savato: Your character's good except for his Domain since ordinary humans from modern day Earth don't start out with Death or Diseases in their portfolio. They can gain it later in the other world but it's going to be hard to explain how they can tinker about with those concepts beforehand.

No, our characters come from a modern world, but were tugged out of Earth and dropped onto a fantasy world with vaguely-medieval tech levels.

@Savatos: He can get those Domains after he comes into the other world. I'm going by the logic that most doctors don't want their patients to die or get sick in the first place which is why him having said things in his portfolio is a bit weird. If that makes sense.

All of a pathologist's patients are either dead or tissue samples.

Ooh, interest. There is Lem and Karrin, which is good.
Can I reserve [Tea] (if that doesn't conflict with Lem's domain?) and [Bureaucracy]? I have to go to bed right now, but I have quite the character in mind.

• Name:Eleanor Sern
• Age:24
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: Something like this
• Personality: Eleanor is an autistic nerdgirl, eager to talk about the utterly fascinating science behind telescopes and deep-space measuring equipment and slow to grok conversational nuance. A former Girl Scout, she's accrued quite a bit of knowledge on first aid, knot-tying, and Being Prepared (and has carried around an Emergency Mechanics kit of duct-tape, WD-40, safety goggles, and gloves since age 15.)
• History: From a young age, Eleanor was fascinated by space and the various space programs, covering her walls with museum poster-schematics of lunar landers and the Hubble telescope. Raised by a pair of accountants, she learned math quickly, and is currently pursuing advanced degrees in engineering and astrophysics while working part-time at a local observatory.
• Skills:
  • Girl-scoutery: Eleanor has a lot of knowledge (though admittedly some of it hasn't been used in a few years) from her Girl Scout days
  • Robotics and Engineering: Eleanor has excellent knowledge on how to make things work and build them - though of course that's assuming materials are at hand.
• Domains:
  • [Robots]: On Earth, Eleanor learned how to slowly put together robots that had to be programmed and determine faults through careful examination; now, she can make golems and diagnose mechanical failure through magic.
  • [Physics/Stars]: Some kind of... I don't know, gravity-messing powers and miniature comets and lightshows. Though I'm not sure if this'll be utterly broken by the end...
  • [Preparation]: Eleanor was raised to Always Be Prepared, and on Earth carried with her a bag full of all kinds of things useful in small emergencies. Once this is magically enhanced, she doesn't even need to carry the bag around.

What would a Storyteller (as in general "making up worlds, stories and characters") and (Evil) Laughter Domain give? Figured if I were to apply my character would have those in addition to Sword and some kind of Philosophy thing for his Domains.
