I'm not sure a deaf character actually works in a setting with prosthetic eyes. And Ayers, on a one-man crusade against disability. And ears are actually some of the simplest organs to manufacture, especially since Mark's hearing was lost in an accident after birth. And Mark would be hanging with Halle a lot, Ayers's daughter, the girl with a direct line to the modernizer of prosthetics in Vale.
The problem is with prosthetics is his eardrums are garbage from the force of the blast and as a result are extremely sensitive to stimuli, to the point where taking off his aids will cause him great pain. His aids are there to keep out sounds so they won't hurt him.

The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.But that doesn't make any sense, because he could just get general anesthesia and undergo surgery to get prosthetics installed.
"Seven is here too, dressed like the concept of choosing clothes that look nice together was an arcane secret far beyond their grasp."Medus had cybernetic material used to replace damaged tissue when his ear was reattached. That was during year 1 of Beacon U and a full 26 years before this roleplay, so no, you're contradicting established canon
-dramatic music ensues-Pretty much, yeah.
I mean, in Ultimate Yun's got himself a cybernetic eye which IIRC is better than a regular one. It's not too farfetched that you could get some sort of replacement for fucked up ears.
When I say extremely sensitive, I mean EXTREMELY sensitive. His Semblance also kind of plays a part in that. If his eardrums are even touched, it would be like flicking an unprotected heart. In other words, it could kill him.
The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun. That isn't how biology works! You can't say that! There's suspending disbelief and then there's ignoring reality entirely and that's the latter.
-dramatic music ensues-Also eardrums aren't that sensitive. They're bone and cartilage, and you actually hear by interpreting sound physically moving those bones. Easily done, and you're introducing some dark shit to Next.
Are you really bringing reality into this conversation? RWBY does not really seem to be a world built on reality, does it? Not to mention the explosion was from a large amount of Dust, so the effects can most likely vary.

The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.No, RWBY is a fantastical world but it does have its rules. And biology is still firmly in effect. Furthermore, your "dust explosion, effects may vary." Is a blatant handwave to try to justify an illogical event, no different than saying "It's magic we don't have to explain it."

-dramatic music ensues-I did take that into consideration. While I will admit biology in RWBY is similar to humans, whoever said they were the same as us? Nearly every person in RWBY has a Sembalance, which we clearly don't have. Not to mention that it seems everyone (except Jeanne) has super human agility and durability. This suggests that RWBY humans have a different biology that us.

The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.We have sentient robot girls, TWO of them.
Even if the eardrums were that sensitive, it has reached the point where you could lop the whole ear out to replace it.
Edit : Actualy, I thought that was standard procedure any way, clean out any damaged bits before you add new stuff.

First of all: Jaune Arc. Second of all the superhuman durability and agility as well as healing is the result of aura. Do you actually watch the show?
-dramatic music ensues-I can confirm that he has. He's seen all of RWBY thus far, including World of Remnant.
"Never let anyone tell you that something is impossible." - Monty Oum, 1981-2015Yes, I do. How is the aura allowing them to essentially be super human then? Unless there is a sponsor's only video for that, or Monty Oum confirmed it himself, that doesn't explain anything.

The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.Aura is a force field. It's made from your goddamn soul. It has nothing to do with biology.
...or can you dissect a soul now?
Nothing is what it seems. Master of Shipping and Sadism.Thank you, Grim.
The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.My point is: Aura has nothing to do with you. His Semblance cannot affect his body that way.
Also: One final nail to this thing: Alice. Beth. Carol. Created before BU and then reverse-engineered.
There is no way his ears can't be fixed.
Nothing is what it seems. Master of Shipping and Sadism.Well, another problem; his family can't afford it. I mean, his ears are essentially completly screwed up and to completely replace them would be a big problem.
The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.Ayers. Is. Giving. It. Out. For. Free.
Nothing is what it seems. Master of Shipping and Sadism.Uhh..isn't your character's dad employed by the richest company in the rwby-verse? How could he not save up for it?
-dramatic music ensues-Zenith, are you just saying this because you want the dude to be deaf? I mean, if he chooses to stay that way, just say so.
You know what? I'm tired. I've had a long day of dealing with idiot classmates and studying for tests. Mark was something I threw together in a half hour. I only know what I know about Next from Stormer, which apparently isn't very much. I'm sorry, please tell me what to fix and I will fix it tomorrow.
The measure of a man is not his courage, but rather the size of his gun.In all honesty, I can say to you all that the idea he had in mind for Mark was to create a Daredevil-like character, only deaf instead of blind, since we already have had blind characters.
"Never let anyone tell you that something is impossible." - Monty Oum, 1981-2015
Well, here he is!
- Name: Mark Krudom
- Gender: Male
- Age: 18
- Birthday: Felicitas 19
- Race: Human
Appearance:- Mark wears a red t-shirt under a black cloth jacket with red accents, and wears black pants and average black shoes. He wears a sort of hearing aid, even though he can't use it. Mark is Caucasian, with blond hair, green eyes, and a face that shows some traces of masculinity.
Weapons and Equipment:- Dark Demon- Mark's steel staff, which is light and collapsible. The tip hides a fire Dust-laced spear point, which Mark often uses against inhuman foes. Dark Demon can also break in half and is connected with a long chain made of a metal-Dust alloy. This allows Mark to use his staff as a sort of whip, giving him a longer reach for attacks.
Semblance:- Vibrance- Mark's Semblance makes his skin extremely sensitive to air waves. This to convert air waves into "sounds" that he can "hear", despite being deaf. His Semblance is almost always on, the only exception to which is battle.
Personality:- Mark has a very "go with the flow" type attitude. He is a bit safety obsessed, but is mostly carefree. He enjoys reading, using it as an escape from his soundless reality. He is sort of dependent on his Semblance, and goes a little crazy when he can't use it. He doesn't care much for making friends, a result of a childhood of pity.
