Tropers - The first of many exciting updates to TV Tropes is upon us! In this update, we focused primarily on making the header and side navigation bars consistent throughout the site. We also reworked a ton of the backend code to allow for easier and more rapid development as we move forward.
Some of you may love the new design, others may hate it. Either way, we would love to hear from you below. We are listening, I promise.
If you have a bug to report, please use the designated thread on the Tech Wishlist and Bug Report to let us know about it.
Now get back to Troping!

The idea might be to make it so the top bar is just there, easily skipped by a regular whose eye is attracted to the main content area.
It looks very nice. I came across it yesterday on mobile and went "Oh! A mobile page! Woo!" But..sadly no. Whole site upgrade! WOO!
Is there supposed to be a big gap at the bottom of pages if you collapse the content on the pages? I dunno if it's a bug.
(be gentle first post)
Re: the hiccup: Whoa.
But I dig the new header. Did anything else change?
What happened to the rest of the options? I mean, sure the light blue coloring was getting the highest votes, but the option to change colors was also in there and it had a higher ratio of up votes than the light blue.
That's going to require a bit more programming, but we will get there.
Well, there was a poll about the whole look of the site.
That would have been nice to know about.
Oh, and now the site looks like garbage for colorblind people.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI have to say, I like this look much better than the dark blue.
Not if you can't see the difference between light blue and grey, it isn't.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseIn my opinion, both the Random Trope and Random Media buttons should stay close to the top of the page.
I know I've said it before, don't know if anyone responded but since the design seems to have changed again...I still think the page scroll is too long. It's made longer than it needs to be by a lot of unneeded blanks space, in my opinion.
That or maybe the option to shrink the text size? I've tried to change it on the browser itself but the scroll remains longer than I'd like on this laptop.
Other than that, good job. None of the features I cared about were lost or obscured from view.
For some reason, I now have two scroll bars (although one is greyed out) and there's a huge black space below the footer on any page that fits my screen.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! And I was just starting to get used to the old new design too.
I personally prefer the random button being red, it made it more noticeable. Y'know, all like "Click here! I swear I won't ruin your life more than I already have!".
@Baconmaniac With respect, you can't cater for everyone. Light blue won the poll over dark blue by a significant margin.
Huh, I'm not the only one who has trouble with the new site color.
Yes, but you never announced a poll.
So everyone who took the poll either is a frequenter here, or stumbled across it randomly.

what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseNow the site just looks really white.
Also, the site was on a mobile version even on my desktop computer... is this supposed to be a thing?
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."My cousin is colourblind.
He cannot read the header and he cannot read the footer because there is not enough contrast.
Seriously, there's one person in the yack fest who knew about the poll before now.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseIs there any way I can 'flip over' to a different version, from this one?
The lack of contrast on the text is making it extremely difficult for me to use, and I've had to use a filter over the site to be able to read it easily.
"Did you expect somebody else?"I can definitely sympathize and agree with the colorblindness-related complaints; contrast is nice.
However, a propos of nothing, I was about to complain that the edit/history/source/etc. dropdown menu was broken/invisible/gone, until I noticed that the buttons have been placed in the subheader, all visible without clicking or hovering over anything.
And that's awesome.
Thank you!
The poll has been underneath this very page since the site launch, the dark blue colour scheme was one of the biggest things that was complained about and the bosses took action almost immediately. And (I know as I voted in it) there were hundreds of people who were involved. Again, no offence meant, but you have had a month to notice it and there WERE many people discussing it.

You mean one person spoke up about knowing about it in a few threads where it was brought up. I knew about it, I know others who frequent Yack Fest knew about it. It's been around for a while.
Look, the point I'm trying to make is that you didn't tell anyone about the poll.
So, yeah people had a month to notice it, but unless they frequent this thread or stumbled across it randomly, they're left in the dark.
Usually polls that address radical changes to the site are put in announcements on the side of the forums. There was no announcement for this.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseNo but there has been a link to this thread from the top of the home page since the new design went live.
Creepers: They're like raptors except they explode.Yes, there was a link to it.
But nothing to indicate that there was a poll attached to it.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone else
^^Huh. I had forgot about it. I was thinking of it because it reduces the space taken up by the bars and because for logged in users the edit tools seemed more important to me.
Otherwise, a minor suggestion from me would be for the profile page to be more lateral than vertical - it leaves a lot of whitespace to the right.
