It is now January 2015, not even a month after strange cases world-wide began to happen. Varying from inexplicable fires to bizarre mass comas, the causes are in fact individuals who have become Awakened: Gaining powers defiant of reality, realizing that magic and the fantastical are real.
Though several of these individuals have already shown off their existence, many others have yet to even realize the powers they now wield. However, while the governments aren't equip to handle them, the international organization S.E.R.V.E (Saving Ethical Ruminations Very Efficiently) has expressed they'll do all they can: Unknowingly to the public part of a larger ancient organization that has been carefully maintaining a masquerade since the first true civilization.
So in addition to dealing with Awakened and those that have their plans for them, the Masquerade in whole will gradually break away to reveal a world of magic & super-science. So there be dragons, robots, and even alien lifeforms.
Thus, outwardly there'll appear to be no overarching plot than worry about what'll happen to the Awakened. However, as things come to light so will plots of varying importance: Possibly even apocalyptic ones. Beware the Prime for it lies, seeking to drown this and all worlds in itself
World Information
Alchemy: One specific expression of Magic, Alchemy is performed by drawing symbols and imbuing them with meaning so that spells can be performed. While initially invented so Mages could have pre-prepared spells without having to become exhausted during battle, the discovery that an altered symbol affects the spell made Alchemy into a game of dangerous experimentation. The result was a strict moderation so no one would end up blowing a hole in reality or other such madness.
Ghosts: They are disembodied souls, and while not required to die first, most are those that lost their physical body. On their own they are powerless to influence the material realm, needing to possess a soulless object to do anything. Trying to possess the body of another soul usually won't work, unless they can expel the original soul- Even then, the body itself will eventually reject them. In general, Ghosts are quite weak unless they somehow augmented their soul or absorbed others. Given enough power, a Ghost can physically manifest on the material plane and influence objects without possession.
Golems: Constructs magically animated, there is no true limit to what and how they can be made. However, most Golems are made as mindless or simple servants, with correspondingly simple forms. The more truly impressive Golems are essentially magical robots, though all of them possess a Core: the focus of the magic animating them, breaking or damaging of which will eventually kill it.
Humonculi: The term applied to all artificial lifeforms made from magic, a Humonculus can come in many forms with numerous different abilities. However all Humonculi are judged on two traits: Quality (the complexity of it) and Stability (the stability of their overall existence). There are special classifications for Humonculi based on these traits, such as Masterworks for High Quality & Stability or Abominations for those with low Stability yet High Quality. Though all Humonculi tend to share basic aspects, such as lacking a "true" soul and fading into the aether upon death.
Magic: Invented at the beginning of human existence, the capacity for it has been within humanity ever since. However, all spells require two things to be performed: Necessary materials (such as organics for healing spells) and some understanding of the intended effect. Channeling magic through one's self is also exhausting, as they need to consciously shape the spells as the magic reads their body as one nonsensical rune otherwise. Though, by using souls as fuel, a Mage can perform more powerful and easier casted spells.
Revenants: Individuals that, in one way or another, surpassed their natural death without actually gaining immortality. Commonly this occurs by a soul refusing death so strongly it patches up the body, though there are... repercussions. Notably, the soul cannot revive the body, meaning it'll constantly decay as time passes. The longer this goes on, the harder the soul works to keep it going. Eventually, the soul itself begins to decay and the end of all Revenants is becoming an unsavable insane thing that'll truly cease to be upon its demise.
Tentos: One of simply multiple projects run by S.E.R.V.E's parent organization, all of them except the Prototypes are artificial humans. There are several classifications of their abilities (Machine, Bio, Animal, Esper, Eldritch) and of their nature (Proto, Failed, Incomplete, Complete, Production). Of all of their projects however, Tentos are some of the weakest in raw power.
Application Format
Oh, regarding the World Information, I only mentioned the stuff you'll most likely to encounter within the first few "Episodes". I also want everyone playing humans (or possibly Awakened animals) for now, though some of their Awakenings might of caused resemblances in appearance and/or abilities to other things like Vampires or Plant People.
I also don't want anyone playing as a character already working for the ancient organization other than recent recruits that really don't know anything. Boy I hope this goes better than the last thing I tried.
