Watching Yu-Gi-Oh from the beginning. You’d swear Ryou Bakura’s full name was "Bakura From School."

The Protomen enhanced my life.Yami Marik would be furious if he knew what the real card game did to Winged Dragon of Ra.
Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.What'd it do? o.o Unless you mean banning it, I think?
The Protomen enhanced my life. They removed most of its abilities except Point to Point transfer and Phoenix Mode. If you use one first, you cannot use the other. And it cannot be special summoned. And a single Sakuretsu Armor can stop it unless a specific Field is out.

Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.it's pretty strange how much of a different experience watching yugioh subbed is as opposed to the 4kids dub. despite the fact that they're still playing card games it's a bit easier to take seriously. most of the cast has more sensible, more human motivations for the things they do; pegasus for example doesn't want to "fuse ancient millenium item powers with technology" to revive his wife (which sounds really dumb), he just wants to make use kaiba's tech to make a convincing hologram.
Poor Pegasus; I felt really bad for him since I was a kid.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Pegasus was my favorite character to the point where I stopped watching it shortly after he stopped being the main villain. (I love the Reshef video game because he's a main villain AND a hero in it.)
Also, Capsule Monsters may be the best thing 4Kids ever did besides Pokemon and the main Yu-Gi-Oh series. :D
The Protomen enhanced my life.YGO in general has pretty good villains all in all. some of them are just douches, but some of them like Pegasus and Marik are very sympathetic.
Marik was actually another character who 4kids removed nuance from. he isn't nearly as fiendishly evil originally and has a much more sensible reason to resent the Pharaoh given that he was basically tasked with guarding the tomb of some dead guy he knew little about and having to forsake any chance of living a normal life.
yami marik was also either creepier or Narmyer depending on who you ask; 4kids cut out the gross things he does with his tongue.
I feel so bad for the random duelists in the various tournaments. Poor guys.
The Protomen enhanced my life. And they added in extremely explicit sadomasochism.
For kids, y'know?

Sign on for this After The End Fantasy RP.wasn't the sadomasochism present in the original too? i haven't watched most of battle city subbed because they were too hard to find. the most widely available subs are awful.
I saw a sub and busted up laughing because it seemed like whoever translated them didn't have a grasp of either language.

The Protomen enhanced my life.the subs from the beginning of the series to about the end of duelist kingdom are good. around battle city they start getting shitty.
there are better subs available but they're not as easy to find.
Wait, Duelist kingdom had good subs? Tell me where you found this magic.
In all seriousness, I want to finish the original subs but the horrible translations make it painful to watch... I got sidetracked with both 5D's and GX >.>'
this was years ago when you could still find anime on youtube easily.
you could probably find them online through the PERFECTLY LEGAL DISTRIBUTORS now.
I prefer the manga to the anime, but I don't mind others liking the anime.
First Chapter. Your mind will be blown, but ignore the first page.
I generally prefer the manga too; it makes for a slightly more coherent story because there isn't that gray area between what got rebooted in between season 0 and duel monsters.
it's also surprisingly dark, though that's kinda standard for most shounen anyway.
What's really interesting is how the dark the manga is, though.
This is a series where dark yugi initially played hellraiser like games with a bunch of jackasses.
Watch SymphogearI actually think that people exaggerate the early manga's darkness. It's darker than the anime, definitely, but all the treacle-y friendship-y stuff is still there. It's not like Yugi's a serial killer, either; only two characters die in the present story, one does himself in, the other is killed in self-defense, and both were unrepentant murderers themselves.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."It's not just that. Dark Yugi also drives a bunch of people insane.
I take Ushio's appearance in 5D's to signify that Penalty Games are temporary, but you could argue alternate continuities if you wanted I guess.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."Also, Bandit Kieth and Pegasus both die in the manga's Duelist Kingdom arc.
Yeah this is actually something I noticed myself. The friendship thing is even more pronounced than most shounen, though not to the extent the 4kids made it.
It is basically alternate continuities considering the fact that Pegasus and Bandit Keith both died in the manga. There are also various other differences, both minor and major, between the anime and the manga that establish that you should think of the two differently.

In episode 28 of Duelist Kingdom (dub version), Pegasus says that every soul he sends to the Shadow Realm increases the power of his Millennium Eye—meaning that he was leeching off of Solomon Muto, Mokuba, and Kaiba for power.
That's both scary and kinda awesomely cruel.

The Protomen enhanced my life.
Figured we could use a general Yu-Gi-Oh! thread, so here it is!
I was watching Season 5 and saw something that made me laugh my head off!
The power of the Millennium Ring was contained... by a backpack. When Rex and Weevil opened it up, thinking it held the Egyptian God Cards, the Ring floated away on its own and returned to Yami Bakura—something it couldn't do when held back by polyester and a zipper.
