Yeah, looks like this has decayed quite a bit, on top of massive problems with natter and Example Indentation In Trope Lists. I suspect that it attracts shoehorning because it's perceived as one of the "good tropes", given that the majority of this site's userbase (myself included) are nerds or otherwise passionate about fiction. Not sure where to draw the line (which admittedly has an air of elitism to it), but beyond a certain point One Of Us does become a mere observation that some people are passionate about something.
On a sidenote, I've seen a similar progression in Mean Character Nice Actor, another of the perceived "good" Trivia items. It started with people who played villains being known for being very personable or involved with charity works and such, then it attracted not-anymore-nice-than-the-regular-person actors who sometimes play onscreen jerkasses. Now there are a lot of examples which are basically "Surprisingly, this actor is not a genocidal Evil Overlord in real life".

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Oh god this Trope Page.
I freaking hate the folder names. They are impossible to decipher and I cant for the life of me tell what they mean.
Also, Mean Character, Nice Actor is a MESS! Most examples just are "X played Y Villain" with NO attempt to show this actors "Niceness"
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Self-demonstrating folder titles have been deprecated recently. One Of Us is not quite as bad as some examples I've seen (like "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue), but there's a thread in Wiki Talk about this topic.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"Close since it's now part of a TRS effort.

Well, the main page is okay.
The subpages however? A huge mess. There's a subpage for Let's Players who are nerds, which is not only redundant, but carries only one example. Most subpages, especially the one for politicians, have a massive number of examples that amount to "this person likes thing, which makes them one of us".
Who are these "us"? Nerds? Watching Yes Minister does not make Margaret Thatcher a nerd...
Anyone up for some cleanup and disposal?
