Classic Yu-Gi-Oh! Sequel Movie

Okay, here's some solid evidence that the movie will be based on manga-continuity. The card game will be called "Magic and Wizards."

Of course, if the cards resemble the TCG/OCG versions instead of having white borders, then the movie won't really fit the anime OR manga canon.

But the manga was black and white, so how could you tell if they had white borders or not? o.o The Toei anime had them be purple, I think.

Well, I guess it could be a really light yellow or something, but either way, there was definitely no differently-colored border for monsters/spells/traps in the manga. That's why the Espa Roba brothers couldn't tell Graceful and Skull Dice Apart (which really made no sense in the anime version unless they were color blind...)

It'll also be weird if they suddenly play by the proper TCG/OCG rules instead of the manga rules where you could only put five cards on your Duel Disk at a time. Well, the GX manga changed the rules, but that was after a Time Skip. If they don't play by the manga rules in this new movie, six months seems like an awfully brief time for the whole game to radically change...

I heard rumors that the English version might take place within the anime continuity. I kinda hope that doesn't happen.

As if 4kids hasn't screwed up continuity enough...

Didn't 4Kids go bankrupt a while ago? I know their VAs still voice the characters, but I don't know who does the dubbing.

EDIT: Maybe it'll go the English manga route? I know Viz changed Dungeons, Dice, and Dragons to Dungeon Dice Monsters like in the show.

I have 5 theories about the Kaiba and Yami Yugi scene as seen in the Darkside of Dimensions trailer. I think what’s significant about it is that we see him as Yami Yugi, not Atem.

Theory 1: The scene takes place around the beginning or middle of the movie, and is just a dream in Kaiba’s head, establishing how he misses Yami, not Yugi.

Theory 2: The scene is real and takes place around the middle of the movie. Yami tells Kaiba that he has moved on, and so must Kaiba. Kaiba won’t have any of it and challenges him to a duel, but Yami refuses and heads back into the afterlife.

Theory 3: Basically the same as theory 2 except Yami tells Kaiba that if he wants closure, he’ll have to duel Yugi, not himself, since Yugi beat him and is the true King of Games.

Theory 4: Takes place at the end of the movie, after Kaiba and Yugi’s duel. Yami agrees to one final match of it will give him closure, movie ends as they prepare to duel.

Theory 5: It’s not in the movie at all and is just to get people hyped.

Now I'm beginning to see why it is in the manga continuity. The Kaiba Brothers only had one cameo in the entire Millennium World arc, and it was after the Ceremonial Battle. Kaiba never received proper closure with Yugi there.

The character designs are more in line with the anime, though—in the manga Tea had brown eyes, Joey's eyes matched his hair color, and Bakura had green or purple eyes, I think. If we see a picture of Pegasus with blue eyes (like the manga) or amber eyes (like the show) we'll know for sure! (The video games often match the manga's eye colors.)

Y'know, seeing as it was in black and white, I don't think the manga had consistent eye colors for everybody. I distinctly remember some of the colored manga covers giving Yugi blue eyes and some giving him purple.

Lala: 4Kids was rebranded as 4K Media. They still do the dub and now work directly under Konami.

Do we have any information on Blue-Haired Mystery Villain other than that he exists? I don't even think he's gotten a name revealed yet!

I'm also curious about the little girl next to BHMV on the character sheet. Guessing she's his sister or something.

The villain gives me a lot of Marik vibes. He even looks slightly like a color-swapped Marik. Slightly.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I kind of feel like the Millennium Puzzle got lost or stolen too frequently.

Dude, it only ever got stolen once before by brainwashed Bandit Keith (unless you mean in the manga version, in which case I think there were a couple one-off chapters where the bad guy of the day stole it, but, c'mon, those were just pointless filler).

So I haven't been keeping up, what info has arose?

Holy crap, that was awesome.

Hmm... The use of footage from the anime in the opening there just makes the whole question of whether this will be anime or manga continuity even more confusing.

I mean, Kaiba wasn't there in the manga version, so that'd mean this is anime continuity, except they didn't call the card game "Magic and Wizards" in the anime. So... maybe they were just using anime footage for the trailer but it won't be in the actual movie, or... Ugh, my head hurts.

it was probably for convenience yes.

if i had to guess, they're using the manga continuity but using modern YGO rules for the sake of marketability and making it easier to follow.

Ryou Bakura's eyes keep changing color. Between the anime, manga, video games, and this movie, his eyes have been green, purple, blue, turquoise, brown, and now magenta-red.

Apparently the movie will have even more Magician Girls other than Apple and Lemon: Berry, Kiwi, and Choco. I guess that makes six now. Do I hear seven?
