I stopped playing ranked out of the bitterness towards the toxicity and how competitive the game has gotten even in QP and arcade has taken the fun out of the game for me.

The comp system in itself is god awful.

I can't say I give much of a Rattata's rear about the OWL, but I do dig the color schemes of two teams.

The London Spitfire for that nice bright and garish Cyan/Orange. And the Florida Mayhem MCDONALDS color scheme. But I don't like how the colors on Junkrat's attire look so dull compared to how everyone else wears them so vividly.

I'd have gone for one of the green color schemes since that's my favorite color, but I don't want to look like a walking X Box. And the gold accents on the other didn't help much. Everyone else seems to have a boner for the Seoul's Black/Gold, though.

The art style of Overwatch isn't exactly uniform to begin with, and there's at least some sort of colour coordination even among the gaudiest OWL skins, but I cannot shake the feeling that the OWL skins being available to everyone might be a similar tipping point to when Team Fortress 2 introduced non-hat cosmetics, moving from tight and sleek visual style to the vomit smorgasbord it looks today.

And on topic of ranked: I never made it through the placement matches. I did not see any change in the skill level of the players, but oh boy was everybody playing with far shittier attitudes than in QP.

Their is several Symmetra mains that get assholes that intentionally false report them

If someone is one-tricking Symmetra, they are ruining a lot of games for other people. It is so easy to counter Symmetra that it's not even funny. The problem people have with "off-meta" heroes is when they refuse to switch despite the fact that they're blatantly being countered. They're off-meta for a reason. If xQc is getting hard countered, he doesn't stubbornly stick to Winston. Stevoo (Symmetra one-trick) will stay on Symmetra no matter what. He was recently suspended twice, but apparently Blizzard will no longer be banning him.

If you're getting countered and not switching, you're hurting your team no matter what hero you're on.

That's not an excuse to be toxic either, btw. But, the criticisms are valid.

[up]And whose fault is that? Blizzard for not balancing their fucking game and continuing to force OWL. From what I have seen people will throw in the selection screen over just seeing an off-meta hero.

Here's the thing for me, this game is so conductive to metaslaves that it's ridiculous. You do not see very much variation in comps. I have won with crazy unorthodox comps with good communication and play. The metaslaves don't care for that though because Blizzard creating this perception that if your not meta you deserve to be abused, reported, and banned.

Anyone in the defense category barring Junkrat is considered useless and anyone whom mains them is a target for harassment, false reports, and horrendous behavior. Blizzard has said repeatedly that one tricking is not bannable but it's been proven again and again that they don't give a shit if the one trick is off meta. Does anyone complain about a Tracer or Genji one-trick? Fuck no because they have always been meta barring the triple tank meta. Mercy one-tricks only get shit for being no brain stat padders which is really encouraging to healers everywhere. They refuse to fix any of the defense heroes (and Symmetra) barring Junkrat and took months to fix Doomfist and they still haven't fixed Sombra a year after her release. Orisa for a long time needed a small bit of help as well as barring in the pirate ship comp she is pretty poor relatively to Reinhardt (unless you are trying to counter Junkrat).

Meta one-tricks are countered as hard as off-meta ones, yet a Genji won't get harrassed every single game even if the other team has his counters that kill him over and over. Instead, the Mercy will be blamed as always.

Also, off-meta players get reported and flamed even in situations when they are useful, like Mei vs Pirate Ship Payload. There is a clear double standard involved.

Why is it that Quickplay has such shit matchmaking? Competitive gives reasonably balanced matches but Quickplay has me completely and utterly outmatched in 2 out of 3 matches. Like twice as many deaths as eliminations outmatched. Not being able to leave the spawn outmatched.

All I do is walk to the battle and die. Walk to the battle and die again. Walk to the battle and die again. Walk to the battle and die again.

The only contribution I give is ultimate charge for the enemy. I'm leaving most battles nowadays. It's kinder to my team.

Bastion on Payload plus Rein and Orisa is the most popular pirate ship comp.

You can sometimes swap Rein for Winston and even add a Torb.

[up][up][up] what [up] said.

Mei counters this composition by placing a wall below the Bastion, thus elevating it above the barriers.

But you won't get to use it because upon even seeing Mei, your DPS will decide to throw and report you.

I still see people complain about us having a Genji instead of a Soldier. Granted, this is usually because a Pharah is eating us alive and neither damage dealer is hit scan. >.>

With regards to Quickplay having worse matchmaking, that's done on purpose because the mode prioritizes speed of getting people out of the queue over balanced matches, so it widens the MMR leniency range much, much faster.

It was just made obvious to me because I made the placement matches with my brother. He ended up in Bronze, I ended up in Gold. A bit of a gap there and yet the game still managed to give us better matchmaking with very close, engaging matches, than for me alone in Quickplay.

Yeah, Comp will spend more time searching for something that lines up. It's something I've always noticed, too, ever since the devs explained it. Comp takes 3-5 mins to find a match in Gold, but has about a 50% success rate for finding balanced matches. Quickplay takes 10-20 seconds, but it's a super crapshoot whether or not it's balanced. It'd say maybe 1 in 10 matches aren't shut-outs. For the rest, 4.5/10, we get stomped and 4.5/10, the enemy gets stomped.

I guess in competitive everyone plays their best heroes too. So it's easier to gauge the player's competence. The difference between me playing Lucio or Hanzo is big enough, that I would need completely different opponents for balance. And that's times 12, because anyone could play a hero they're good at or one they're garbage at. Not so much in competitive.

It's hilarious how they fixed a bunch of bugs for Doomfist and another 10 more pop up.

It's like the game wants to keep good old DF unplayable.

By the way, I just finished Season 2 of Stranger Things and, when they introduced Eight, she honestly looks perfect for how I'd imagine Sombra, if just a bit younger and, obviously, different accent/ethnicity. Get that girl a cosplay and she'd be a dead ringer for the character.

Another modification to the game that was (justly) overshadowed by the Mercy Fix #359: Zenyatta can now see the health of the subjects of his orbs in the corner of the screen. One of those updates that makes you think "why wasn't this implemented earlier?"

[up] Probably not the actual reason, but I find it funny how everytime a quality-of-life change is suggested (Reinhardt being able to see behind him, Sombra's healthpack being visible to teammates, Zen orb's target's health, etc), people start going: "Why don't you try communicating with the team?" and "Stop trying to make the game easier for noobs". What.

If it won't hurt competitive play any, the game should always be made easier for noobs. We want the game to be appealing and accessible to new players, and every bit counts. Here's some more quality of life fixes (albeit for things that I'm not sure are actually a problem or not since I don't own a copy of this game, feel free to correct me if they aren't).

  • Make Mercy able to look around while Res-ing like Rein can while Shielding.

  • Make Symmetra and her teammates able to see the locations of her turrets and Ult stations through walls. Make an alarm go off for all of Symmetra's team if her Ult stations are being attacked. Make a different alarm go off for Symmetra when her turrets shoot an enemy. Make Symmetra able to see an outline or an icon of her turret's target through walls.

  • Make Mei able to lower her wall at any time she wants just by tapping the same button to put it up before the cooldown is up.

Mei can already dismiss her wall.

[up][up] Mercy can already look around while Ressing though. She can move normally, just at an incredibly low speed. And here is that taken to its logical conclusion. Behold Beyblade Mercy Warning: may cause dizziness.

[up] I think he meant putting it down before a cooldown even begins

I meant what I said. I was just wrong about what I said. Like I said, I don't play this game, and I asked for people to tell me if I'm wrong about any of these. I just assumed that Mei's wall can be a lasting problem for her teammates because I frequently watch videos where people complain about poorly placed Mei walls throwing off the flow of the game for Mei's own team.
