One place to look might be Extra Credits. It's a web-series that I'd describe as built around discussing games as a medium from a variety of perspectives.
My Games & WritingA similar series is Errant Signal.
Bumping - I found something interesting that seems to pertain to this topic.
I also wikiwalked through the citations and came across an actual university-associated website called the Critical Gaming Project which has a variety of articles on game criticism, actual courses that were offered on it, and links to journals, writers, and academic presses that focus on it as well. 0_0
I'm not sure if the project is still ongoing, unfortunately (it looks like it started in 2007 or 2008, and the final item on the news was posted last summer), and from what I've seen I think Extra Credits might actually be higher quality in some respects... but it's still pretty great that this is an actual academic thing.
The Revolution Will Not Be Tropeable
So lately I've been interested in how academics dissect and analyze video game media and culture (like with books, movies, etc.), but I was wondering where I should begin in trying to find critical breakdowns and such about video games, their plots, and the general things they do. So, I decided to do what I always do and outsource that search to people who know better than me! So, where can I get some good video game analyses?
