Has Epic Fail epically failed?

I've been seeing a non-trivial amount of misuse of Epic Fail lately, both in browsing my watchlist and in the "Is this an example?" thread. It seems that people are stretching the trope definition to include any time someone fails dramatically at a task.

One example can be seen here, although the page history may eventually move it down. Someone listed the hyperdrive failure of the Millennium Falcon during the escape sequence in The Empire Strikes Back, which does not even remotely come close to what the trope is.

As I noted in the edit reason, Epic Fail isn't for when a plan goes awry, it's for when a plan goes spectacularly and improbably awry, typically Played for Laughs. So the hyperdrive not working wouldn't count, but if Han had pulled the lever and the cockpit had detached from the ship, it might.

I'd like to get some other thoughts on whether this is a problem worthy of creating a Projects thread to clean up. It's worth noting that Epic Fail hasn't been through TRS since the revamp of that forum; the only thread I could find was unrelated to this issue.

I have a feeling this is mostly the fault of the trope name.
