This has been a thing for a long time. Saturday morning cartoons aren't a thing anymore, dude, not when you have literally entire channels devoted to cartoons.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.A week or two ago there were headlines about the last major network holdout ending their animated Saturday morning programming, meaning an end to Saturday Morning Cartoons.
Fresh-eyed movie blogSaturday Morning Cartoons. It was a relic, but a good relic.
I may sound a little mean in saying this, but if there is any justice in the world, this "One Magnificient Morning" dreck will get abysmal ratings.
When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefYeah, you're just being needlessly petty there.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. It's too bad. Lots of good shows too. I'll miss it indeed.
I don't like the idea of only putting them on Networks that don't work on basic cable either. It leaves many kids out of the dust if the parents can't afford full cable, which isn't really all that fair.
Albeit, it didn't help they removed some fairly neat shows like Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, but it happens.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol. This news made it to the Washington Post and other major news sites?
Man, this sure shows how many people hold S.M.C dearly. That's kinda cute.

Supports cartoons being cartoony!I can't believe they cancelled CW Kids like that. I mean, how would kids who don't have cable or satellite be able to watch cartoons? Well, they always got the internet, but still...
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!I KNOW RIGHT?
The Worst part? That it WAS successful at the begining with that Wrestling show that scored 1 MILLION. Along with DBZ Kai And JLU it was a respectable success, IF not on par with Nickelodeon.
Then Executive Meddling came along and it went down the drain pretty fast.
@Rob:
Most execs don't like cartoons. And we all know the Censors want everything to be educational and wholesome, sooo . . .
This was probably a case of all the stations jumping off the boat before the imaginary bomb went off.
Aside from nostalgia, I don't this is really a big deal.
Children have so many more options to watch cartoons now, Saturday morning blocks just don't make a lot of sense anymore.
Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova ScotianThis - in short, no tears shed or anger felt - except annoyance at executives sucking ass for trying to create a society they're not capable of maintaining as usual.
Even if I had different face, I AM STILL DISGRACED."trying to create a society they're not capable of maintaining as usual"? What?
Insert witty 'n clever quip here. There's a reason we miss Saturday Morning Cartoons. It was the only programming a lot of us planned to watch in advance on a schedule, making a comfortable tradition, and also it was where a lot of the better shows were compared to the other kids' networks.
That is, until the E/I act passed. The decline started at that point, where Saturday morning cartoons became a dumping ground for quote unquote "educational" Shovelware to keep the networks barely legal. Nothing memorable or entertaining at all during those years.
So, it's sad, yes, but unfortunately, it's been a long time coming.
"It's liberating, realizing you never need to be competent." — Ultimatepheeragree. I didn't watch S.M.C as a kid, so it doesn't affect me. Though, like I said, the fact that there are people who hold them dear in their heart is kinda sweet.

Supports cartoons being cartoony!I find it hard to believe the educational shows people rail so much against (which nobody ever gives examples of) are quite as awful as people claim. I see nothing wrong with trying to educate children while entertaining them. Hell, standards like these are why we have great shows like Word Girl and why shows like Sesame Street continue to exist.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.I agree with you that Word Girl and some other PBS shows are good shows, they are the exception. Why don't you watch One Magnificent Morning on the CW on Saturday morning? That block has examples of terrible educational shows.
"You can run, but you can't hide from the Buzzinator!"Because a) I don't really watch TV much anymore (plus I work Saturday mornings, so I couldn't watch it if I wanted to), and b) I don't really watch children's educational programs anymore. Maybe when I (if I ever?) become a parent.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Yeah, it's honestly like people who legitimately bash Barney. I mean seriously tell me more about how a show created for 3-4 year olds don't meet your standards.
And I say the target audience is no excuse to make something completely grating and unwatchable for anyone else, especially since the parents/older siblings are going to be the ones forced to constantly turn the channel to it. Hell, even for me when I was in that target audience I found those kinds of shows incredibly irritating, and now they're everywhere.

Outside of PBS few if any of those channels with an education block for kids have good, educational programming on for adults. Mostly it's dramas and completely bullshit reality TV that everyone knows is complete fantasy. If these execs are going to bother going the Think of the Children! route, then they need to have the integrity to continue the trend with older target audiences. Discovery and History USED to be good like that, but they've jumped full bore on the bullshit train.
That's probably what was meant about creating a society they can't maintain. Childhood is important, but you can weaken the values you instill in kids by denying them positive reinforcement and role models for the rest of their lives.
Wasn't sure where else to put this, so I'll try here. If it needs to be closed, feel free.
So, two weeks ago, I woke up, and flipped it to CW to take a look at their usual junk......
And there was nothing there.
It happened again next week. Just a bunch of Nature shows instead of their usual line up.
It seems that they no longer have a Saturday Morning block.....
Like nearly every other channel in existence.
Rob is sad. Rob is very sad. True, Rob is a full adult now, but hey, I can still enjoy Saturday morning can't I?
So what the hell happened?
One Strip! One Strip!
