Tougou is almost certainly Washio Sumi, but it's not particularly relevant to this series, is what I got out of that

Aside from that, mostly confirmation of what we could already guess

Also, I disagree with anyone who suggests that this is better than Madoka

Episode 8: The series Mami episode. Nuff said.

No, this isn't the Mami episode; it's the " DO NOT THROW SOULS" episode.

I am still concerned about what happens next episode.

[up][up] I don't know if you're talking about me, but I never said this is better than Madoka, I just said that it is an interesting counterpoint to Madoka. Just to make it clear.

Well, it's better than the other Madoka inspired stuff I've seen at least.

Kinda reminds me of a cross between Madoka and Senki Zesshō Symphogear actually.

I just think the drama is more convincing than Madoka's.

But I do like it a bit more so far. It's more optimistic and the characters aren't so deeply flawed (morality-wise, not writing-wise).

Loves feel-good animation a whole lot.

Episode 8. In which a truth comes out.

Itsuki is more expressive without a voice.

Something with her bow?

Gotta train them well if they're many. Helps with some experience, too.

I think I've heard of the Night Parade before this. And before Touhou.

Togo disagrees.

Always the Butt-Monkey, if that role is needed at the moment.

Speak of the devil, indeed.

Eye-patch looks great with uniform too.

Everyone wants to take care of it themselves to spare the others. Seems more reasonable to share the load, then. Like they always do.

Okay, that is a lot.

Talking is not a free action.

They spend a lot of time basically confirming one thing. And making a hint or two.

We were all thinking about "who would die" and we missed the point.
Speak for yourself. tongue

What I don't get is why this was in any way a shocking episode. Things haven't taken a major turn in any direction.

Episode 8:

  • New fairies for everyone. Except Karin. Because she didn't go Mankai. ...It's better if she doesn't, by the way.
  • Hey, it's the Vertex that Itsuki took out. ...Then I remember it's Gemini.
  • A special meeting occurs. One that confirms some things.
  • Poor Sonoka. Her ascension to divinity is not an enjoyable one at all...
  • Yuna and Togo have been hit with the despair-inducing truth. All that's left now is to overcome it! Hope will never die!

Madoka, Daybreak Illusion, WIXOSS, and this show sure love despair-inducing systems.

Wait, the best Sonoko and pals could do was hold back the Vertex? Hm, either the Vertex were stronger when Sonoko was in action, or they were smarter.

Since it's all but confirmed that new fairies are gained with each Mankai usage, this is the story of Togo.

  • 1st Fairy: Starting out as a Hero.
  • 2nd Fairy: Lost the usage of her legs.
  • 3rd Fairy: Lost her memories.
  • New Fairy: Left ear stops working.

Hm, either the Vertex were stronger when Sonoka was in action, or they were smarter.

It's just recently that Taisha figured out how to get rid of the Vetex(es?). Before that, the poor souls fighting them had to beat them to a bloody pulp so they would flee instead.

That bring two interesting points, tough:

  • Up to this point, making the Mankai counter go up required sealing and destroying the Vetex. At least for the Hero Club.
  • Just by appearing, the vertex erode the barrier put up by Shinjuu-sama. Either the veterans managed to make them flee while on a time limit or there's something else going on here.

Well, there is obviously some inconsistenyc somewhere. If there are only 12 vertices then they have to respawn or something so Hero system could be developed in the first place. I would guess there is something that sends them out in groups of 12. Obviously, there is something going on there.

[up][up][up]Correction: the barrier is eroded when they are paralyzed by sealing (that period when there's a counter underneath). Mere presence causes no decay. Your first point is interesting, though.

What the actual fuck, Togo?

Fu's crying and RAGE was a bit much.

They seem to have gotten most of the ANGST out of the way, so that's positive.

Fu is worst girl. Which isn't saying much since they're all great girls, but still definitely worst girl. And Togo's definitely lost points, her friends should probably have a talk with her.

Next episode preview: Looks like they haven't gotten most of the angst out of the way after all. Damn.

p.s. taste >>>>>>>>>> voice.

[up]Hey, at least the Taisha aren't the ones creating the monsters. As far as we know...

Jesus. I mean, we all knew it was coming, but wow.

[up]Why the hating on Fu-senpai? Her responsibility as a leader, love and protectiveness of her sister and the rest of the Hero club, her loyalty and belief in the Taisha... It's totally understandable to me that the revelations that got dropped on her this episode would break her. She's been my favorite from the start and this doesn't make me think any less of her.

Togo jumping straight to suicide attempts, even if it's only to experiment on the Hero system, is a bit more of a stretch.

Losing your taste would be pretty miserable, but I feel like it's a lot less crushing than suddenly being crippled or mute and having to change the way you live life, especially if it also means giving up your dreams.

[up]I guess it's nothing personal, like what Togo did was just as bad, but Fu's hamminess and tendency to accentuate the drama took away from my enjoyment of the episode a bit (which is ironic since her chuunibyou adds to my enjoyment of the show immensely) thus worst girl.

Episode 9. In which there's sadness.

Solemn start.

That's one uncomfortable silence.

Little bit on the morbid side, I think. Although I wonder how infallible they are.

For whenever I see people go berserk like this, this is probably one of the more reasonable times.

Why are they suddenly hatable just because they do something disagreeable? Especially if it's not against other people. Are they not being moe enough or something?

[up][up]I wonder about the "straight to" part. She might've done smaller stuff to test it out first, but just mentioned the actually important parts.

Fu is best girl.

Togo is hardcore. And not completely stable, but we kind of already knew that. The fairies suddenly got creepy. Why do they always have to be evil? Fu has some big guilt issues. Can't blame her in all honesty. The Taisha trying to set Karin up against the others was a dick move. And Fu's lost it. I almost wish she had gotten to the Taisha. Itsuki at least is sort of taking this well.

Well, I suspect Togo figured out her own history, which is why she was able to jump right to the suicide attempts. Considering Fu was already blaming herself for Itsuki I can see why she wouldn't mention it. Togo's a smart cookie I think. And still the best girl.

Itsuki probably did get the worst deal there. And she did do a good job pointing out the obvious at the end. I give her props for that.

And thus the universe made every effort to drive Fuu's guilt over the edge. Thank God for supportive friends.

And I'm going to join to "WTF, Togo" chorus, though I guess I can say it wasn't something I'd have put past her to try.
