Keeping your grip on the spear and staying in a ready stance, she's hardly disabled.

With that, she shakes her head with a smile. "You're such an ignorant fool..." Looking at you with an unyielding gaze, she calls out rather fondly. "I work for the US Government of course, but we're not the only ones. As to beings like me, worldwide there's currently fifty six of us. Though it'll be fifty seven soon enough..." Fake child for a fake life, funny.

Sighing, you know she's still a threat with that metal shield. Running the Explosive Lancer over the pieces, Sarah watches cautiously as it is reduced to slag. "Hopefully that'll intimidate her enough not to lie with me further..."

Looking over at her, you become completely serious. Standing up straight, you speak with conviction "What shows do you watch? No true hero, and especially no true Magical Girl, would kill!"

Her eyes quickly examining you, she continues to hold her wounded arm as she stands up somewhat sluggishly. Chuckling softly, she avoids looking at you before speaking with a melancholy tone. "That makes you the exception then... Though, I probably just have too high a standard. Regardless, you're far too dangerous for me."

Narrowing your eyes at that statement, you speak more coolly "No true hero would kill their opponent if it could be avoided." Smiling a bit, you continue "So don't treat me as your enemy, I'm quite a nice person if you get to know me."

Shaking her head with her eyes closed, she starts floating away. Looking down at you as she flies away, she speaks much more neutrally. "My superior is expecting me, but this is merely the beginning Magical Girl. As long as you choose to play hero, people will target you. So, I hope you know what a hero is then."

You won't stop her, and honestly you're not sure you really could. Dismissing the Explosive Lancer, it breaks away into flickering flames. Though, upon thinking about it...

If there's really fifty six of them and Justice Rook running out there, you'll need to refine your skill. Quickly looking around, nobody obviously seems to be around. They could be hiding in the unfinished building, but if anyone was around they likely left once you summoned Explosive Lancer.

Having determined nobody is around, you... have no idea what to actually focus on. "Won't be too long until I encounter Justice Rook, so I probably should study up on her." You probably shouldn't stay around too long though.

Hand going for your pocket, you suddenly realize this outfit doesn't have any. Checking your entire outfit for it, you eventually squeeze the black chest bow. Noticing it feels oddly rigid, you unravel the fabric to find your phone. "Huh, weird... Wonder if the bow is even normal now."

Activating it just fine, you begin your search by typing in Justice Rook. Not really expecting mu-"Wow that's a lot of search results. How busy has she been?"

Starting to read through them, you... don't like what you find. "Another victim beheaded" "Family mourns unfair loss of addict son" "Crime hangout exploded" Looking past that, the discussions aren't much better.

"This "Justice Rook" will attack anyone committing a crime, often with fatal results! Nobody is safe alone at night anymore." "Though crime rate is decreasing, mortality rate has skyrocketed! Whoever this Justice Rook is, they're far worst than the people they're removing."

Then there's the people who read too much Death Note, praising Justice Rook for "doing what the government has been too afraid to". Curiously, the username HammerAlice10 seems to stalk everything involving Justice Rook yet mocks the praisers for "worshiping instead of doing". If the media has taught you anything, she probably knows something.

Still, you couldn't actually find anything regarding her powers or appearance. What eye-witness accounts you find ultimately just say she's fast and wielding a weapon, which varies between accounts. Some of the accounts even say the Justice Rook is a guy or a group. It seems someone doesn't want more information being revealed, as from Sarah you know she's a redhead.

Though, something has been bugging you... Sarah mentioned a "Magus Peak of 1942". Whatever happened then must of exposed Magi to the worlds' governments. Typing in Magus Peak, all you get is people asking what it is. Trying Magus 1942 you... get links about World War II. "Oh, this is gonna suck."

Opening a link, you begin reading. "One month after the Declaration by the United Nations was issued, Germany invented a weapon capable of rapidly generating ice. This was quickly put to use for their Holocaust, and would first see combat applications when Allied soldiers tried to destroy it. To compete with this dangerous Wonderwaffe, the Allied forces began developing their own Magi weapons. By the war's end, there were twelve of these weapons all called Magus due to the experimental technology used to make them."

Though while you could dismiss this as something unrelated, once you start reading more specifics of the German Wonderwaffe one "Adena Ahava" is mentioned as being involved with its upkeep.

I'm going to take the defense jokes as votes for "Try to discover other powers". Besides that, sorry if the last update didn't have enough information. Don't want to write too much that the votes hardly seem important.

Turning off your phone and rewrapping it in the black fabric, you warm up a bit by moving your shoulders. "Alright, Sarah said she wasn't fit to fight a Pawn yet Keber said I'm one of the weakest Magical Girls. Must be a power or two left I haven't discovered."

Taking a deep breath, you gaze down at your hands like they'll tell you all of the Mana Bracelet's secrets. They did summon the Explosive Lancer though, so... Eyes narrowing due to focus, nothing seems to happens. Then a blast wave of fire suddenly erupt from your right hand due to accidentally pointing it at the remains of the shield.

Looking the hand over quizzically, you thrust it out at thin air. Nothing happening, you try again with pointing it at the shield again. Once more a blast wave of fire shoots out at it, further scattering the pieces. "Okay, so I can emit fiery pulses at nearby solid objects. Neat, but rather limited." You have no idea how useful that's been for me, do you?

"Let's see, if I'm going to call myself Blazing Angel I'll need fire wings. First, maybe..." Dismissing your transformation and specifically imagining fiery wings sprouting from the back as you reactivate it, you... are rather disappointed that didn't work.

"Okay, okay, maybe I can activate my pyrokinesis mid-transformation to form wings. Be pretty awesome to have detachable combat wings." This time, that plan works! Though, the back of your outfit feels kind of- Skreeee!

Clutching your head in pain as you drop to your knees, your body feels violated for doing that. Turning around to see the fiery wings had dropped to the ground with pieces of scraps slowly burning, you feel the back of your outfit to find your upper back exposed.

Quickly retransforming, you feel the back again... to find your upper back is still exposed. Yeah, don't think you were actually supposed to do that. It hurts, why does it hurt?

"Okay, just inflicted mental pain on myself and permanently disfigured my Magical Girl outfit... Probably time I get some answers from Keber." Trying to sense his magical presence once more, once you get that vague feeling you try calling him. Nothing seeming to happen at first other than you holding your own head, the black fox suddenly speaks up.

" Greetings Magical Girl Faith, I'm surprised you can sense my presence. That's actually not normal to be honest, though it has happened before. Do you have any questions?"

Turning left to see the black fox thing sitting on a pole, you take a deep breath. Suddenly looking at him accusingly, you shout "Who the hell are these mage-haters?! I asked you if there was anything I should know about using magic! This seems like something I should have known!"

Looking at you with a perplexed expression, it thinks. " Not to be technical, but I thought you meant magic by itself. Though while there are plenty of people who would hate Magical Girls, be envious of them, or other such things I don't know who you're referring to specifically. However, if you did encounter mage-haters as you say, then you should be cautious of any governmental body. They're not very friendly to Magical Girls ever since 1942."

Giving it an annoyed expression, you rub your forehead. Cracking your fingers, you speak somewhat more calmly. "What can you tell me about Justice Rook? None of the news source are very helpful, and I can't let a murderer run loose."

This takes his interest, and he floats down closer to you. Grimacing, he wraps his ear-wings around his body before replying. " Well, she's eighteen years old, has red hair, blue eyes, slightly brownish skin and dresses purely as a boy. Her Mana Bracelet was found in the street, and lives alone with her single father. Though..."

His ear-wings starting to constrict his body, he suddenly explodes into light. Blinded for several seconds, a smooth voice suddenly fills your ears. " I will not intervene or oppose the actions of Magical Girls, so long as she doesn't intentionally aid the Kachemetcs. Thus, while your human laws would deem Justice Rook a monster, she has already promised to fight the Kachemetcs. Besides, by eliminating criminals she delays the birth of further Kachemetcs."

Regaining your vision to see a majestic greyhound sized version of Keber with seven tails and his ears stretching back to produce the illusions of two more tails its quite impressive. Looking into your eyes with ones of gold, he speaks again in that smooth voice. " If you must fight Justice Rook, then I suggest you first plan with Liliana on how to confront the arriving Kachemetc. No offense, but you lack the experience to confront one of those things alone."

Matching Keber's gaze, you start internally planning. "I wouldn't really trust someone so ready to murder with such great powers. I should take away her Mana Bracelet if possible. Though, since he mentioned Liliana, she is a pacifist which puts her in serious danger from those mage-haters. Sarah in particular doesn't seem to like her. She's currently doing a concert here, so I could go approach her and explain. Would be nice to meet a friendly Magical Girl..."

Looking at you with confusion, Keber starts pacing around. " That really shouldn't have happened, as the outfit is a reflection of you. Though I could see that happening if you tried to force functional wings, yet not permanently damage the outfit. This is quite the enigma little Fiona."

Briefly looking you in the eyes before turning away, Keber sighs. " The Magus Peak is when eleven or more Magical Girls are active at once. The last one happened during 1942, and one way or another all twelve Magical Girls got involved in World War II. Because of their terrifying potential and the destruction they caused, the governments all agreed on preventing that from happening again. Though of course, they've been trying to harness magic for themselves since then."

"I've already encountered a Government mage-hater you know. Eighteen, female, flinging deadly metal shards at my face." Quickly whirling his head back to look at you, he mutters to himself out loud. " That's not good, it won't be long before they target Liliana. Need to do something, but what?"

Snapping out of his muttering, Keber sits onto his haunches. Scratching the side of his face with his right paw, he snorts. " They study captured Kachemetcs and enslaved Magical Girls to reverse engineer magic of course. Mana Bracelets are constantly moving into and out of governmental control, allowing them a good variety of samples. While possible this person you encountered was simply using biotechnology, it is far more likely she's an Artificial Magus. There have been attempts to make false Mana Bracelets, but it is significantly easier to make a fake Magus instead. Though they wouldn't so easily give up..."

Taking a deep breath, you ask "Mind telling me any special attributes the Pawn-Class has? The Artificial Magus said she wasn't fit to fight a Pawn." Blinking his eyes at that question, he looks quite embarrassed. Popping before your eyes, Keber's in his original form as he rubs his neck with one of his wings.

" Wow, I just feel stupid... Anyways, Pawns do possess a special ability. They can imitate the powers and class of other Magical Girls for a limited time. Though honestly, I was hoping you wouldn't fight your fellow Magical Girls anyways. The ability would only have limited effectiveness against Artificials though."

Having the ability to copy other Magical Girls would be quite useful, especially... "Anything I should know about the Rook-Class?"

Stretching out his wing-ears, he creates an image of a girl punching through a wall with ease. "Rooks are physically the strongest, able to take hits that would normally be fatal as well. However, Rooks often lack any sort of controlled projectile and are primarily close-combat fighters. Though you're basically screwed if locked in a room with a hostile Rook."

Thinking to yourself, you decide to ask. "Hey, can you tell me about Adena Ahava?" With that the little fox becomes completely serious, and his ears are flattened against his sides. " Adena was a Magical Girl, the Star Bishop. For her primary ability, she was able to generate ice. She was a Jew, and her rabbi entrusted the Mana Bracelet to her. She died, and the Star Bracelet hasn't been sensed since. I refuse to say anything else."

Yeah, you're starting to think you watch too much Puella Magi. He hasn't actually done anything to you, and it isn't like he's forcing you to be a Magical Girl. Rubbing the back of your neck, you innocently ask "Hey, what's Liliana's Magical Girl title? Tarot Chess theme right?"

Still wearing that serious expression, a slight trace of annoyance crosses his face. " I refuse to tell you, but she is a Knight. As far as I'm concerned, Angel Princess Liliana is her Magical Girl title. If I can help it, nobody will harm her."

Blinking in surprise at that reference, Keber suddenly becomes a lot less serious as he smiles. " Wish I could say it did, but my existence greatly predates Cardcaptor Sakura. Though I really love that anime, and been meaning to read the manga. Pretty hard to buy manga when you're a floating foxy thing though. 2000 sure was better... Now I kind of miss the former Pawn Priestess. That was someone who knew and lived Magical Girl, I'm telling you."

When I first saw the thread title, I thought that it would involve steampunk somehow, and "queen" referred to a literal monarch.

Odd thought process, but I can see how the title could refer to an actual Queen. Though now one of the other Magical Girls is so gonna have a general Clocky theme complete with a steampunk outfit. Besides that, it isn't like removing Justice Rook would magically make the US Government ignore you.

Stretching out his entire body, Keber still wears that smile on his face. " Well, Knights have the best Movement ability and strongest Magic Weapon out of all classes. One of their abilities is usually activated by using it with their weapon, though isn't a set rule. Bishops have the best range with suitable abilities like heightened reaction, while Queens are overwhelmingly powerful in all their magical aspects."

Closing his eyes in thought, his ears twitch a couple of times before speaking completely casually. " The flashy ones are likely to be captured by their local government, while the subtle ones only have to worry about not getting killed by a Kachemetc. Though Germany is the best place to be a Magical Girl, as they're rather remorseful for causing a magical arms race. However, it does depend on the society. Lost two Magical Girls to the Salem Witch Trials for example, and male cultures tend to outright deny Magical Girls their power. Still, if you ever need to flee, Germany's your best bet."

Twitching his tail, Keber's smile becomes vastly subdued. " No, but if you would like to know the Magician Bracelet was used by a young woman working with the Allied Forces. She was responsible for the defeat and downfall of a few Axis Magi, so you should feel honored you're the new Pawn Magician. Heck, she could even be your grand or great-grandmother."

His smile fading into a slight frown, he simply glares at you. " If they caught her, death would be a mercy to her. These governments don't see you as people anymore, merely the key to achieving ultimate power. So they would prefer to capture you alive, as dead Magi can't be studied. Sure, there are people that object, but they're quickly either removed or 'taught' to accept it. But no, you're not on my side. You just want to be a hero, like your anime protagonists. Do you even know what a hero is little Fiona?"

Why do people keep asking you what a hero is? Of course you know, sheesh. Still... "Well, how do they contain Kachemetcs?" Floating closer to your face, he tilts his head as he looks into your eyes. " It is far from easy, but usually some form of Magi-Technology. Any other way would be horribly complex and wasteful on their part. Though Kachemetcs' bodies fade into the aether upon death, so they can't simply kill one to study it."
