Seika

As the thing started its barrage, Seika squeezed on Nekochan and they quickly turned and started to run away from the thing. She could feel the tingle of electricity as near hits grazed her. As the mounted magical girl moved, she twisted around to take aim and fire arrows back at the thing. Ideally this would allow them to avoid the enemy attacks while forcing him to predictably follow them allowing Seika to strike until the thing was put down. This relied heavily on her speed and reflexes, and she put a lot of trust into Neko to move to the right spots while Seika focused on putting down the familiar. It was a potentially deadly mistake if the cat, who was the bigger target, took a hit and they tumbled to a crash landing.

Of course, if she had taken her armored form she'd be charging forward using her defense as offense and go through the barrage trying to get a solid charged hit. Meanwhile her ice form would be trying to overpower the familiar's attacks with her own. Each strategy could succeed or fail, but there was no changing strategy in mid combat without some down time.

Mariya

"Just a piece of the whole then. Something like a puzzle perhaps? A nice distraction on a cozy living room floor before a hearty fire cackling cheerfully in the mantle. Where have I read that before?" Mariya's continued monologue to things that may or may not have actually been listening to her quietly resounded in the null around her, a ghostly whisper dry and almost desiccated. At this point with some exertion of her powers the once charmingly beautiful young girl had come to resemble a corpse, with notable lines of decay and wither etched over her face. The clarion call of the damned began to murmur it's sweet nothings to all around her, but of course her audience at the moment was only one. "This Witch is a strong one, grandmother. I wonder how many more of you shall be drawn to my side this day? Or maybe... maybe I'll finally join you guys?" On that particular morbid note Mariya finally had the decency to remember that she was in the thick of a battle for her life.

The Witch was tearing up it's own domain, which was largely a moot point since it could probably repair it at will. More importantly, it was attempting to tear up her. The arc of the attack was rather wide, and Mariya was pretty sure she couldn't sidestep it at this speed. Instead she opted to go over it, using her supernatural grace and strength to narrowly bound her lithe frame over the arc of the beam at it's narrowest point. She could sense that the Witches power was growing, a sense of unease and disquiet rooted in the nape of her neck that sent frissons of a decidedly frigid persuasion through her spine. The shocks were increasing in intensity, meaning she was most likely working on a time limit at this point.

"The cat and the mouse dance in claw and tooth~" Mariya hummed to herself in a blithely cheerful tone, along to a melody unidentifiable.

"The cat and the mouse dance..." The gate to the underworld carefully grasped in her hand bleated slightly, an unnatural voice everywhere at once yet nowhere. Mariya knew reinforcements were on their way, so she didn't want to push herself anymore than she needed to. She was a rational and reasonable young woman, for all her isms, and she knew it was in the best interests of all to use up as little of the energy in her gem as possible. She opted for another spirit mostly to give the Witch something to chew on, to throw minor distracting attacks at it's fringes. She focused on skirting around the edges of the battlefield, conserving energy until it was either do-or-die time or Julia returned with a friend.

If Hei Ryung was worried, she didn’t show it, smiling sunnily at Julia’s concern. “In that case, if I get banged up I’ll know just who to come to.” She said, reaching her hand into the neck of her shirt. “Only one thing’s for sure though…” She took her hand out to reveal a burgundy cross gem balanced on the tip of her index finger. “This Witch won’t forget the day she crossed me.” The gem began spinning in place until it dissolved into a bright light. Hei Ryung cupped the energy in her hand and pressed it to her face, where it surged out to envelop and transform her body.

After an iris-searing moment, the energy dispersed in a ring around her, kicking up a thin atmosphere of street-side dust. In the center was a dark red cloaked figure, face hidden in the darkened area beneath her hood. She nodded once to Julia, then maintained eye contact as she kicked off the ground to sail backwards into the labyrinth. Just as she crossed the threshold, she made a cloak-flapping mid-air reorientation to face the scene before her.

Ulrike

"Characters are characters, Maggie. And you play yours well. I don't think the Director is going to complain the night of the show." she said putting a hand on Maggie's shoulder. "Say Maggie, I was going to visit the Ice-cream parlor down the street. Do you want to come with me?" she put on a smile hoping to get the timid girl to come with her. Hopefully wouldn't try very hard. Who would pass up Ice-cream?

An hour later: the streets

"Always a little lonely," Amity repeated. She shivered slightly: as predicted, the temperature had dropped noticeably. It was nothing to match the chill of a winter's night, and she was used to worse: but in combination with the darkened alleyways, the flickering sodium lights, and the shadows they they cast, there was a vague loneliness that pervaded the atmosphere, oppressed her spirits.

She shook her head, ashamed for her moment of weakness. You're a magical girl, for god's sake, she thought. And a hockey player. If you can stay standing after that bench-clearer in April you can certainly handle whatever these streets have to offer...unless they have a gun. Crazy Americans. Oh god, what's the crime rate around here anyway?

At this rate, she thought, it'd be a sheer relief to run into a witch or a familiar. Patrol duty combined unease and tedium; the catharsis of an actual fight was something she understood much better. Yet this was crucial; this would be her city, after all, and she had to be fully familiar with her stretch of it.

With a sigh she turned down a side road, glancing at her phone to check the time, and resisting the urge to extrude a pair of skates and dart down the sidewalk.
