I'm too young to have ever experienced Saturday morning cartoons. By the time I stopped soiling myself Nick and CN had already won the battle for kids' TV, and those were the channels I watched the most as a kid.

My parents, however... they have, back in the 60s and 70s. I never really asked them about what they remembered, but I will mention that my mother's hatred of the now-forgotten cartoon The Robonic Stooges is a private joke in my house.

I remember those shorts on Boomerang. They wern't like the regular Stooges, but still pretty good try to get kids to remember there were stooges.

When I was a wee little Maxwellelvis, I had ABC's One Saturday Morning block. Recess, Pepper Ann, the Buzz Lightyear cartoon, and a ton of weird wraparound sketches and segments. I remember one where the Genie would explore briefly the stories of great individuals, somehow they roped Robin Williams back in one last time for that; ooh, and the one with that guy who voiced Mr. Director and Freakazoid, then after OSM folded he was Chuckles The Silly Piggy and now he's Lord Starchbottom, his name's Paul something-or-other. It had this weird industrial vibe before it was revamped late in it's run, then it changed entirely around the time Disney bought Power Rangers. Last I remember watching it was it's weekday morning spinoff One Too, during an Easter vacation in Hawaii. It was around that time I switched to Kids WB; oh, and the Fox Box, which did have some quality stuff that wasn't just Ninja Turtles.

This morning Vortexx (The last block that airs on a Saturday morning) just did its final broadcast. Which marks an end of an era for Saturday Morning Cartoons and Shows. I hope Doug Walker or James Rolf heard about this. Especially since Doug really loves Saturday Morning Cartoons!

I hope someone ups the output of good cartoons so we can make new memories with this new generation again.

Well, at least there's the Internet. Kids can still get access to some good old cartoons grin besides, the Saturday morning cartoons are pretty sucky.. At least here. Seeing what my little sibs watch, it's just badly dubbed anime.

I sorta doubt we'll have cartoons that are super memorable ever again though.

As long as no one claims copyright laws on it, we'll be fine.

NBC is still airing cartoons, albeit educational ones. Because most houses don't have Sprout.

If I'm not mistaken, NBC didn't air cartoons until I was 9. (I watched Vortexx's very last broadcast, and Kids WB's last broadcast, and Fox Kids' last broadcast.)

Don't worry, PBS is still showing weekday cartoons!

But that's not weekend cartoons. I wish the government had more faith in action packed Saturday morning cartoons, but now, I guess Nick is the only channel that still cares for Saturdays since new episodes of Sanjay And Craig and Bread Winners still air.

(checking local listings) For the people who still have antennas, some digital subchannels are still airing Saturday morning cartoons. (these channels are much more common in big cities) The stuff on Qubo isn't half bad, really.

But the majority of Nickelodeon's shows started sucking. Especially once Breadwinners debuted.

I knew things were on a slippery slope when FOX gutted their cartoon block for infomercials nobody cares about.

I remember the likes of Life With Louie, and Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot. And after that there was Fighting Foodons, and of course Digimon.

I'm pretty lazy when it comes to actually tuning into new television shows.

And as a kid, I was really OCD about it. I always felt like I had to watch the whole block, I couldn't turn the channel or anything.

Mostly I would forget, or not even bother. As such, I didn't watch much of anything on Saturday morning really.

I'm actually getting into a lot of it now which is the sad part. I'm obsessed with Digimon, but I didn't actually get into it until they added it to Netflix, like 2 years ago. Same for any other Saturday morning show I say I'm a fan of, probably watched it pretty recently.

And Vortexx ended?! That's depressing, I never watched it much myself, but I was glad they were still airing Yugioh and other anime after 4kids couldn't.

So what about their shows then, like Yugioh? Are any of them ending?

At least, on the bright side, Sonic X can finally DIE! Seriously, the last game that show followed came out in 2003!!!!!

Still pretty hard to believe there are no more Saturday Morning Cartoons, there was always something special about them, something to look forward to as the weekend started.

I should remind everyone, cartoons on NON-BASIC cable are still going, like Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Channel. But not everyone has these channels, and they're usually not on Saturday mornings anymore.

Ooh, the first Digimon Adventure series was probably the first really serialized show I can remember getting into, though I only really started around the time when almost everyone's Digimon was getting their second power-up form once an episode, in the early part of when they had to regroup and go after Myotismon, so only later in reruns did I get to see when they got their first power-up forms and how they got to the Continent of Server and all that. It's too bad I didn't give any of the other series a try, though.

Oh man, I heard the news about Vortex ending their Saturday Morning block. Even though I still can watch Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network for cartoons, I will still miss the old Saturday Morning Cartoons that used to air and I hope that Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network pick those shows up like they did back in the 90s.

[up]Nick sorta has a Saturday morning block. It only has like 3 cartoons, but still promoted nonetheless

Personally, I don't see the major appeal to them. And I think kids nowadays don't either. With the exception of how efficient and exciting they were back in the days where there weren't channels that played cartoons, I kinda find it pointless to have them now. I mean, would a kid really want to wake up at 6 am to watch a couple hours of cartoons when they can watch channels like CN anytime they want or on the Internet?

You obviously were never poor in which you only had basic local cable. My friend can still watch stuff online, but as for TV, he's now limited to only public access. And that sucks.sad

Oh. I forgot about people with basic cable. If so, then yes. Saturday morning cartoons are efficient. Especially if you're a cartoon fan :)

I never had basic cable so I didn't have that problem.

I remember being younger and after getting off the bus from preschool, I would go upstairs to watch the afternoon block of Digimon, even though I had no idea what I was watching way back then. Good times...sad

The one time I saw an episode of Monster Rancher, when I saw it years later it was the exact same episode.

Heh... I remember seeing a bit of Monster Rancher after Mega Man as part of a Sunday morning cartoon block on FX. I was just recording it on tape for the Mega Man, not for the other shows or the repeated "In Japan" facts, and I managed to see just about every episode they showed, but later I was disappointed to learn it cut a bunch of episodes and scenes compared to the original run, which I had only caught a couple of times.

Since I wasn't an early riser most days, about the only Saturday morning cartoons I watched regularly for a long time were on The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show, since it was toward the end of the morning, and just about any other show would be a one-time sampling for me. (That series had a lot of the later Looney Tunes shorts, but the ones I saw once I got Cartoon Network tended toward the earlier years. Hm.) So a lot of those Fox Kids premieres, I would catch on weekday afternoons after school if possible. I was really getting into ABC's "One Saturday Morning" block for a while, though.
