I am quite surprised at the lack of response.
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone; An animated Gilbert and Sullivan film, eh? Sounds rather intriguing...
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."So, what are your impressions of the first few minutes?
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;Haven't had the time to see it. Soon enough, though, I will, and then I can finally say what I think.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."I think it's cute so far. The animation's good, especially during the duet in the beginning.

Good animation, good character designs - what's not to like?
For those who are interested this is by the English Halas and Batchelor studio. The only other work of theirs I've seen is their take on Animal Farm, which while not faithful to Orwell's work, is still an incredibly powerful film - especially during the ending.

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Oh, here is something you might have not took note of: the Union Jack has a cross on it.
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;Ooh, there's a Ruddigore cartoon? Awesome. I got a friend who'll love this, too.
Ooh, and it's got John Reed. That's always a treat.

Does anyone else find Ruthven's name amusing?

For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;Sigh.
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;Animated G&S? I am so there! I need to put this aside for later viewing, but the still image and the fact that it’s freaking G&S, and something I never knew existed before, has me completely intrigued!
Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!This was so much fun. I'd recommend it to everyone.
Looking for some stories?Favorite character, anyone want to share?
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;Gosh, I don't know. Probably either Mad Margaret or Robin/Ruthven.
Looking for some stories? It's nice to see a auburn-haired male in this.
For duty, duty, must be done, the rule applies to everyone;I like the recording they used. John Reed and Kenneth Sandford were great G&S performers.
Over all, I think it is a great adaptation. My only criticism was that their superimposing an opening narration over the song "Sir Rupert Murgatroyd". I thought it was highly unnecessary, not to mention that Dame Hannah's part was cut down so drastically to the point she was barely noticeable. Also, I wish they could have included the opening and closing credits.
So far as I know, this is the first animated film of a Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera. When Halas and Batchelor first started the project, they had to go over a lot of legal hoops with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, which still owned the copyright to the series. Originally, Halas and Batchelor wanted to adapt The Pirates of Penzance or The Mikado, but the D'Oyly Carte instead insisted on one of the lesser known works, and Ruddigore was ultimately chosen. Originally, it was meant to be a full-length feature, but was eventually cut down to under an hour to be presented on television.
I have discovered a little-known gem, which I am going to share.
Presented for your enjoyment, the 1967 adaption of Ruddigore.
