Because the commercials are specially made for airing during the Super Bowl.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Really? By that logic, "Christmas Special" would be a great name for Christmas themed advertising, right?
Speaking as someone who not long ago wouldn't have been able to peg what part of what tournament of what sport Super Bowl was about, I've never really heard about Super Bowl Special referring to anything but the commercials played then. Compared with Christmas Special, which I've always heard as referring to special episodes.
A commercial made for Christmas isn't really a special, since it's something that's likely to run at least for a month, probably several. Just a commercial themed for the season it's airing in.
In short, same word, but used for different situations.
Check out my fanfiction! The proper way to develop a TRS thread is to show that the trope is either failing to thrive or attracting misuse through a review of examples. You personally not understanding or liking the name isn't sufficient justification.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I don't particularly care about the TRS thread anymore. I wanted to know why this trope name wasn't misuse to begin with, and where it came from. @4 helps, even if I don't agree with the underlying logic.
My TRS thread was declined, so I'm just asking: does anyone know why Super Bowl Special is called that when it's about the commercials? As in the literal logic behind it? Because I don't understand it, and I'm curious now.
