Might have something to do with it being the American Broadcast Company.

BBC doesn't seem to have a problem airing their stuff in America.

Does ABC have an own Branch in the UK? If not, they have to wait until someone decides to buy the rights.

Which is what people haven been waiting for for months. No one is trying to air it in the U.K. Which is annoying for half the cast (Carter, Stark, and Jarvis) who are all British Actors who's families can't see the show.

Agent Carter finished its 8-episode run back in February and yet there still hasn't been any word on if an additional season will get the green light from ABC. For comparison, Daredevil was released earlier this month and a second season of it was green lit by Netflix within two weeks of its premiere.

I think this is an unfair comparison. Daredevil was awesome, no question, but it's also far cheaper. It probably costs as much as your average contemporary cop show. Carter, on the other hand, is a period piece with an expensive leading actress and a few big special effects (like the implosion bomb).

Also, Daredevil was funded through a website that aired all episodes at once and CERTAINLY has a lot smaller pool of shows to Greenlight from.

It's also worth noting that Agents of SHIELD is also awaiting word on a third season, from what I've heard. Still, Daredevil got a huge amount of acclaim.

I wonder if Agent Carter could continue on Netflix?

Now sure if it could with its current budget. And the budget was something I liked about Agent Carter.

It's ABC. ABC has their meeting early to middle may and THEN they will announce their renewal. They always do it that way. Therefor it means nothing that there is no confirmation yet. That's true for all the other ABC shows, too, including those which pull the best numbers.

True. I don't know why they're making the comparison to Daredevil. It's a completely different situation.

True. It's only such a long wait because Agent Carter wrapped up in February while most shows are finishing up their season around the time ABC makes their final decisions.

I would imagine that the decision had been 'unofficially' made months ago when Carter finished airing and May is just the 'official' moment?

Not necessarily. They might have an inkling but they're going to want to see how all their other shows do, what new show pitches there are, the general TV landscape and how much money they have.

Agent Carter lives and dies on more than Agent Carter. It's ratings weren't that high that it's a shoe-in.

Well, yes, but I'd imagine that they'd have a fairly good idea by the end of the show unless some other show took a massive nose dive.

Not really. There were shows that did better, there were shows that did worse. It depends on a number of things:

  • ratings / 18-25 male viewers
  • cost of the show
  • cost of the cast
  • interest in the show/DVD sales (if it ever comes out on DVD)

The show is costly per episode, but there are only eight episodes, so it probably costs about the same as Agents of SHIELD. A o S brings in more viewers, but not much more. There a ton of interest online, but again, it's hard to gauge how much and from whom (the big thing is ADVERTISING and they really want to ADVERTISE a lot).

So I'll say the show has about a 50/50 chance to come back.

I thought ratings were based on the 18-45 age group in general, not just males? (Well, the 18-45 age group of people who have Nielson boxes, anyway.)

According to ratings experts (or whatever), the 18-25 male group is the most important because...they buy a lot of stuff? I guess?

No, it's the most important because they are the hardest to reach. Especially for ABC, which kind of does have the reputation to be a network for family entertainment and shows geared towards woman.

There are a lot of things which factor into a renewal aside from ratings, and some which can only be gauged later on. Like how the show sells overseas (it will be shown in Germany next month, btw, but only on pay-tv) and even the downloads make a difference. DVD sales, too, but I don't think the show is already out on DVD, or is it?

Hey guys,

Just want to ask for your approval before I edit the YMMV page for Agent Carter, would you count Sousa getting a dose of Midnight Oil and getting knocked out like a mad dog before being restrained after trying to attack Jack and Peggy in "Valediction" a Take That, Scrappy! towards Sousa after the way he interrogated Peggy in "SNAFU"? Also, would you qualify Sousa's willingness afterward to believe Peggy's testimony and stand up for her achievements that redeems him as well as assisting her in "Valediction" counts as a Rescued from the Scrappy Heap (same goes for Jack after he Took a Level in Kindness in "The Iron Ceiling", "SNAFU" and "Valediction" and even assisted Peggy and Sousa to stop the Big Bad before taking all the credit for the team's heroics)?

...I don't think he ever became the Scrappy in the first place, so no.

Souza was a look at the Dogged Nice Guy being a White Knight, and all the ways that can be bad and creepy. His character arc naturally introduces him as sympathetic, then shows how he's not, then has him learn. As a result, Souza was unlikeable for a while, but he was never a bad character, and certainly not a scrappy.

People also tend to simply let their anger of his behavior in the interrogation scene take the wheel instead of considering the very likely possibility that he was just Bad-Cop-ing in a nasty way.

I cannot say I am a fan of this emotion-before-reason approach in general.

Yeah, I saw that scene and I was like-"oh that makes sense. He's feeling professional and personal betrayal, and he's probably mad at himself for developing feelings for Carter, who he thinks was playing on said feelings to do her criminal acts...for whatever reasons he thinks she was doing them."

But then I checked on this website and apparently Sousa is just a horrible, horrible, misogynist.

Its the same kind of stupid knee-jerk reaction that says a female hero getting captured (despite her competence, the competence of the villains, or the circumstances of her capture) makes her, and by extension all women, look weak.
