Top secret science?

Ah and on her site she describes Eli's questions and comments about what they are doing as "unwarranted and unsolicited" interesting.

One minute, fifty seconds: calling that Robert's new name is gonna be Adam.

EDIT: Nope, just "Frankenstein's the doctor, not the monster" joke.

Also holy shit IT'S ALIVE

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Man, this thread's been dead for a whole month.

Episode 21.

Am I the only one seeing some really weird Character Derailment going on here? I'm really hard-pressed to believe that Waldman and Iggy would be super in favor of keeping the Creature around, let alone that Iggy would keep this from Victoria.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Yeah wasn't it Victoria who was into doing it, they seemed to be squeamish about the very idea, and now suddenly they want to keep him alive against Victoria's wishes it doesn't make sense

Oh hey, I didn't know we had a thread for this.

New episode. I really like all the actors on this show.

[up],[up][up]:I don't think Iggy would keep the fact that they'd had the creature secret from Victoria, but as far as Waldman and Iggy keeping it alive goes, it is one of the biggest breakthroughs in medical science. Even if they were skeptical about the project itself, it's been done and there's more to gain from keeping it around than letting it die.

...I think what concerns me more than anything is it kept calling for Victoria and neither of them thought letting her in on this was a good idea.

Yeah that was pretty questionable, also so this is the bit where he asks for someone else of his kind and Frankenstien refuses. Also with that stuff with Fritz the ethics board didn't like you huh Victoria, I can't imagine why, I mean sure sexism plays a part but I imagine that sort of stuff didn't help

New episode. Finale on Hallowe'en.

I'm really not ready for this to end.

Man, Rory rebounds fast. YOUR LAST GIRLFRIEND JUST DIED, DUDE.

Yeah, I think the writers realized they killed too much time and now they're rushing to catch up to where the series needs to be for the finale, because this whole about-face feels really poorly conceived.

So this made me kinda furious at Victoria. I mean, I'm a biologist, and I love biology, and I don't find the social sciences as interesting to me as my chosen field, and I'm not as good at them. Fair dos.

But I do work with sociologists. And psychologists, and anthropologists, and even economists, because they're all people who work in schools, and use the breakroom. And I despise the way my fellow biologists treat them a lot of the time. I can't stand the "not a real science" bullshit because it's belittling, and cruel, and arrogant.

Does Victoria die? I hope Victoria dies. Good riddance. Scientists that act like condescending asswipes to scientists in other fields deserve to die.

I have a dissection tray with Richard Dawkins's name on it and a jar for his pineal gland.

I'm kidding. Mostly. Just. Argh.

Goddammit PBS.

Also embedding the episode.

[up]It's not like the series hasn't readily established that Victoria is a bit of a dick. I do think that is supposed to be an actual character flaw of hers.

Everything just moved too quickly. The relationship, the monster appearing...I just...it's all really unsatisfying.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Sorry. Got kinda mad for a second there.

...Who's doing the music?

I disagree with Victoria. She was exactly a doctor.

Sally Chou did the music for the show. Interesting bit on the title theme here.

I really liked the relaxed, non-plotty parts at the beginning that were really just a youtube science show, but I guess it didn't work out so well pacing-wise especially since they wanted to have a Hallowe'en finale. Which, yeah, timing, but I wouldn't have minded if we had a "two weeks after Hallowe'en" finale instead.

I was more wondering who was doing the music in the show.

I mean, did Victoria edit the background track in while she was crying? Did she have a band in her dad's basement?

The vlog conceit is a very, very thin one and one that works increasingly less to the show's advantage as it goes on.

That said, I'm pretty sure this last episode did have an in-universe explanation for the music. Eli put on a record, remember?

Wow. It's been a year since the last one.

I was a bit sad it ended with just the one season, but it was getting a little strained. People said the Vlog Series format wasn't working here though. That and the showrunners got a little too overboard with all the science, and the plot got pushed into the second half of the season. Also not a lot of modern pop culture references, which might've helped its appeal.

I was following it alongside Carmilla and I was really hoping the two shows would crossover at some point—why, Victoria would've been very welcome in Silas University, especially if they had a medical school, you know.

I want to go to there.
