And that's why current running theories are these are to throw us off in some way.
Scott's done it before. He had us think that Golden Freddy was going to be the main antagonist of FNAF 3 before he revealed that it was Springtrap in the trailer who was an animatronic with a similar color scheme essentially.
It wouldn't be too surprised if these were hallucinations or there is something else going on here that we don't know yet. If the Marionette, the Toys, Golden Freddy, or Mangle get a Nightmare then I definitely think that we are dealing with something different then the previous games.
I am still assuming that it's a movie set. Animatronics have been used before in movies (hell there is a whole job dedicated to creating them for movies I think). Either that or the asylum idea might not be too far off as well. Being a night guard for the crazy stuff in the previous games would be quite stressful (The Fazbear Fright guard definitely might of actually got the worst deal) and it was implied that atleast one of them (the Fazbear Fright Guard) snapped so....

Huh.
So, for shits n' giggles, I spent some time yesterday looking over the images for the Nightmare animatronics thus far released. For Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica, I didn't notice anything new that I haven't seen anyone talk about before.
Then, I looked at Foxy. As luck would have it, I turned away from the screen, and the glare in the room and the corner of my eye made me notice something that I hadn't seen before. I tilted the screen so that I could get a better look, and have things appear brighter...
Now, I'd like to ask someone to double-check this, because my vision is crap and I might just be seeing things. But if I'm right, there's another head - humanish in the same way Springtrap has a human head inside - inside Foxy's mouth. With glowing eyes. Its mouth is open, and that Overly-Long Tongue is coming from that.
If I'm wrong (either due to poor vision or my mind playing tricks on me), well, wouldn't be the first time regarding this series. If I'm right... uh... is that possibly one of the bodies that the Purple Guy hid, literally inhabiting Foxy? Is it one of the previous guards, having been stuffed into the Foxy suit? Is it Purple Guy himself, now able to switch between animatronics?
... I really hope I'm wrong.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. If you look at the image of Nightmare Foxy, you can see that its jaws are barely hinged to each other. So there's not really a chance for anything human-shaped to be hidden inside, at least not with the head intact.
But I saw something that I mistook for an eye for a moment. The bolt at the corner of Foxy's mouth looks like an eye at a quick glance.
Well, there's not enough space (assuming Foxy is the same size as before) for an adult human head to be wedged there. It could be a child's head.
A more likely possibility is that it's a smaller robot - Nightmare Freddy already has the mini-Freddys, and Nightmare Chica has the Nightmare Cupcake. A smaller robot with a long tongue would be a possible explanation. Though the possibility that I'm seeing just a bolt is also reasonable - like I said, my eyes aren't that great.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Anyone got pictures of these nightmare things?
I want to show a friend of mine who is a huge FNAF nut.
Moved handles because mehOh ok, cool thaAAAAAGH THE FUCK CHIKA JESUS SHIT!!!!111one11one!
Friend agrees, Chika is the most unsettling of them.
Moved handles because mehI find Foxy and Freddy more unsettling because of how more subdued they are in their narm designs.
I also think Freddy and Foxy are scarier in Nightmare form, although I think that's a function of pose - with Bonnie and Chica, it feels like you already know what they're going to do when they see you - strike. But with Foxy and Freddy... it's like they know they're going to do something, but they haven't decided what yet. My mind fills in the blanks to be much more horrifying that the rapid dismemberment or chewing (or both) that I feel Bonnie and Chica are about to do.
That said, if Nightmare Bonnie and Nightmare Chica posed differently so as to be less overtly aggressive, I think I'd find them scarier.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. The less we know the scarier it is.
The cupcake completely ruins Chica for me.
@2512 Exactly - a smaller scale version of Nothing Is Scarier - as the first game showed, the anticipation was the scariest part.
Imagine if Nightmare Bonnie was the same build, but instead was shown from behind, turning its head and looking with that shining eye. Or Nightmare Chica was viewed from above (like when she was in Cam 4B in the original), holding the Nightmare Cupcake out. I think that would have been a more effective reveal for both (YMMV, of course).
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. And because I am a very bored random lurker with nothing better to do...
Hidden message in the bottom corner reads "Property of Fr-(blank space)-er".
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)PROPERTY OF FREDBEAR'S FAMILY DINER
Also, there's a faint reflection of sharp teeth in the spotlight.
Gavan, Let's get jiggy!Plus, we still have #ee82ee hidden on the site's code (apparently, in a 0x0 pixel text box). But that's been there since at least since before FNAF3 came out, so that might just be a red herring.
Also, I'm wondering about the purple hat in particular. I see what appears to be a mirror to said hat under it. Is that because it's on a glossy floor, and it's just reflecting? Or is there some sort of Mind Screw about shadows and what's inside them?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.I expect 4 to reveal more about the Bite of 87 and/or Fredbear's Diner.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I'm guessing we'll see what the animatronics look like normally now.
Either that or Golden Freddy and Spring Bonnie.
And now he makes his move...
I really, really hope that we get answers on the Purple Guy with this game.
I really do.
Well, if the teaser is showing a lot of purple, then yes, we might be getting those answers.
But the hidden text could imply this belongs to an animatronic.
Ever wonder what FNAF 3 would be like if you had limited power in it just like the first game? Here you go.

Now that I think about it, it's odd that power wasn't an issue, given the dilapidated condition the attraction was in.
Though it's mainly just the doors that fans want to return.
I legitimately think it'd be creepy awesome if Sparky actually showed up in this. Just as like this incredibly brief, mysterious, super, super, super rare thing that no one would believe anyone who came across it because it just almost never happened.
On a different note, Foxy, I think, is better than Chica (less ridiculous looking) but still not really creepy to me. I don't know, I guess it's kind of weird to expect them to scare/creep on sight since the original animatronics didn't really do so, but these still just scream "I'M SCARY, RIGHT!?" to me.
