Seriously though, we used to be able to edit stuff on other tropers' pages, but due to misuse, that ability was locked, so we can only edit our own.

Not really. Your troper page is yours to do whatever you want with it, as long as you don't post objectionable material (bashing people, NSFW stuff, etc.). Feel free to check out what other tropers have done if you want inspiration.

I note that those with underscores in their names are unable to do this themselves. How would one find someone who can help or get a "legal" name?

Wiki URLs can't have underscores or any other non-alphanumeric character in them. The only way to get a troper page in this case is to create a new account with a valid handle.

Is there a way to 1) delete the old account and 2) connect what you did on the old account to the new one?

- Connecting, as in, transferring watchlists etc. over? I imagine that can be done either manually or at the back-end.
How would one do that manually?
See these buttons named "Add watch/Drop Watch" at the bottom of a thread (as well as the top of wiki pages)? That's how you do it.

You can still put on your new troper page that you created those tropes. I will assume that you'll create a new account that has the same name minus the underscores, so there shouldn't be any confusion.
As a side note, why are underscores allowed in usernames if they cause issues like this?

Will the site treat your old username with the underscore as separate from your new one? Is there any way to link them?

Hi, I've been reading TV Tropes for a while now, but I haven't made many edits. Is it good ettiquette to create a page for myself (Tropers/Alaxtis) or is that treated as arrogant? Similarly, under what circumstances is one added to the contributors page? Just a question from a new user!
