Gundam Reconguista in G

If you didn't know by now, this upcoming installment in the Gundam franchise is Yoshiyuki Tomino's much ballyhooed return to Gundam series after 1999's ∀ Gundam. While the series won't premiere until later in October, the first 10 minutes have been posted up online. Click here if you're interested in getting a sneak peak.

First thoughts about this series?

I'm a bit torn on some of the new mecha designs, what with the faces and colors and all. New Gundam looks kickass, though. Shame it didn't really do much once it first showed up.

I can see some of the style influences being carried over from Overman King Gainer. Maybe that also goes for the tone of the show, who knows.

Honestly, my first thoughts are not about this series, but about this thread. We already have a perfectly fine and operational Gundam thread, located here. TC, did you just not know about the thread, or is there another reason for making a new one?

Because it is perfectly fine to have a separate thread for specific series. We have a Gundam Build Fighters thread so there is nothing wrong with having this one.

Personally, I just think it's redundant. I don't feel there's a need for another Gundam anything thread when we already have one; same goes for Build Fighters, now that you brought it up.

As a native speaker of the chaste and noble language of Spanish, the fact that is says reconguista and not reconquista really gets on my nerves.

The show itself seems to kick ass.

Well, nobody on the normal Gundam thread actually talks about Build Fighters even when we bring it up, so we might as well.

Yeah we're all too busy arguing about Gundam series from over a decade ago.

Let's see here... The suit on the left looks like that purple Zeon suit I can't remember the name of, the middle suit looks like a Red Frame from SEED, and the left suit looks like a Zaku wearing a body suit. Huh.

Ooh, really digging the look of those. Probably my favorite designs so far.

The Hecate is a Not-Dom, basically.

I was about to say "A Tomino Gundam series with mecha naming conventions that actually make sense?!" and then I saw the Jahanam...

Though I guess even that's more sensible than "Hamma Hamma" and "Zgok".

Probably a typical Weirdo Japanese Transliteration (TM) of Gehinnom

EDIT: I've noticed that *usually* (but far from always, see Zgok) there's some kind of reasoning for the Weird Japanese Names. (usually some kind of horribly mangled version of a word in another language)

EDIT 2: And didn't he do the same thing with the leader of the League Militaire? (who was translated as... Jinn Gehennam... but it was pointed out that they meant "Djinn Gehinnom", IE: "Spirit from Hell")

I do agree with his opinion on politicians, though.

However, he says that the adults can't fix the world then says that he had sown the seeds to change. He's contradicting himself right there.

Actually, he says that the kids who are watching this show can change the world once they become adults, rather than the adults we currently have now.

The article quotes him thus:

...Which is what I just explained. I fail to see your point.

He says that the kids are going to change the world, yes - but he also takes some credit for it.
