I have come back after hiatus from the site! It was mostly due to significant amounts of work happening.

I'm happy to report that I am going to be debuting my comic Tarus Space at the Toronto Fan Expo.

But seeing as how this site is all about collaboration, I wanted to open up to everyone to talking about the whole comic making process and world building all the way to the printing press (since I've now done everything except trying to sell the comic).

I'll edit in links to the comic once it ships and all (also I'm trying not to do 100% shameless promotion).

What do you need help with?

The possum is a potential perpetrator; he did place possum poo in the plum pot.

I just thought it'd be nice if I could help people who had questions about the process of going through and creating something beyond just fabricating the world. As in, how to get artists/writers, the production process etc.

Maybe you could start by giving us a very brief overview.

Well, hope this is a useful point to start it off.

I think the basic steps are:

1) Solidify your idea. You want to be able to definitely state what your project is in a few short sentences and what you want out of it.
2) Gather people for your project. I would attempt to avoid very close friends as business/friendship mix poorly.
3) Scripting, storyboarding, setting establishment, world building. You'll have to set at least some of your world in stone.
4) Roughs, penciling, inking, colouring, lettering. Creating the actual artwork.
5) Printing. Two main types of printing and every printer has wildly different costs. When I say wildly, I've experienced orders of magnitude difference in cost, so be careful!
6) Putting it out there. There's a range of choices, you'll probably pick all of the above. Just note some are really crappy (selling on consignment to stores is particularly costly and results in little sales) but you still do it because there's nothing else to do.
I'll start it off with this.
