It's not Did Not Do the Bloody Research, it's Separated by a Common Language. The writers weren't trying to make Magikoopa use a British curse word there, he's using a word that just means something else in America. Magikoopa isn't British, and isn't trying to curse. They're not going to "international flavor" and failing, they're just going to American flavor and not thinking about how it would work in England, thus it's Separated By A Common language.

I can see the argument, but Separated by a Common Language already has a really good pic so I'm not inclined to do a replacement.

Did Not Do the Bloody Research also covers the examples where the strength of the bad language is dialect-dependent - it's not mutually exclusive with Separated by a Common Language.

[up][up] Yeah, I'm not suggesting a swap, just a pull. And while the two aren't mutually exclusive, this particular example isn't Did Not Do the Bloody Research at all, so it's encouraging misuse.

Being misleading, it's a pull in my book.

^^ Yes it is. "Spastic" doesn't just mean something different, it is extremely vulgar in Britain.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

[up] That's exactly my point; Did Not Do the Bloody Research isn't "this word is vulgar in another country," it's "using slang you don't understand when trying to make dialog for a foreigner."

Magikoopa? Not British. The writers weren't going "oh, let's have the British guy use spastic. That's a word they use over there, right?" No, they're having an American character use a perfectly acceptable American English word, meaning it's just Separated by a Common Language.

The two can overlap, but they don't in this case.

Did Not Do the Bloody Research is not that narrow. It is a trope about using language that is vulgar without realizing it. The first sentence is just one possible reason.

Ok. Suggestion: [1]

Weak but better than nothing, and maybe a caption could fill in a hole.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

[up] Not bad, with a good caption I'd be fine with that.

Maybe something like:

This movie is called "Austin Powers: The Spy Who—" in the United Kingdom.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

9 works, but I am not sure if 11 helps it.
