Hoping this thread can be brought to life, I'd love somewhere to discuss this game.
Then again, this is only the second post after like a year...
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeNext week in the UK, the 3DS version comes out, with a Super Mario version with it. Having never played it before, until the demo (I don't have an iphone and it was never released for android here) I'm really excited. I've a lot of experience with a variety of match 3 games of different types - Puzzle Quest, Bejeweled, many Candy Crush variants, Pokemon Trozei's series, etc - but the demo was pretty brutal and left me hungry to get into the game proper.
My name is Addy. Please call me that instead of my username.Definitely do it- it is well worth your time. I've yet to play the demo, but if it is like the game at all, I'll definitely be getting it.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeIf you play the 3DS game and are looking to get into the mobile version, there are ways to get the NA or JP version of the game for android(I think involving directly downloading the game files) if it hasn't been released in your region yet. No microtransactions will be possible, but that might not be a bad thing depending on the person. You can probably find guides for it online.
Personally, I don't think I'm going to get the 3DS game, despite having put lots of time and effort into the mobile one.
oh cool, what's your friend code? You should totally add me as a friend.

I'm rank 179.
Rad. Prepare for a friend request from a rank 204, lead ult ronia. I also use L. Meta, Umi&Yama, L. Kali, Athena, Pandora, and Luci on rare occasions.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeLoving the game so far, really am. I have no issue with micro transactions and love dlc so a hack that doesn't allow me access to those is no good for me (I'm the same poster as Above, changed accounts). My phone contract is up though and I'm genuinely tempted to make my next phone an iPhone for this...
Doooooo eeeettttttt
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeAs I say, tempted. I could certainly see me being into the game enough. One app is a big thing to decide a phone I'm going to have for two years on though, so I'd need to find other ways to justify the decision. I was addicted enough to Candy Crush to reach about level 700, and I have every missable monster so far from Pokemon Shuffle, and completed Puzzle Quest at least half a dozen times, so I've got a bit of history with match-3 games.
It's been annoying not to have access to this until now, needless to say.
the iPhone is a decent enough phone, and you can jailbreak it if you want a bit more freedom with it. but you can get the game on ipod 4g (that's the device I use it on) and the majority of android devices too... in the US at least
regardless, the game is fantastic and very, very in-depth. So it's a worthwhile download.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeFor reasons unknown, it's never come out on android in the EU. Very frustrating.
I'm quite sure that it is. However, this also means that EU gets version updates MUCH faster than US does.
But that doesn't really help if you don't have an iPhone.
You could always try and download the US files from a site directly to your phone. But i don't have much experience in that.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeYessss new ultimate evos released! I have everything i need for L.Kali too.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI'm heading out just now but when I get back, I'll give some thoughts on the game ahead of the US release. It will provide some perspective from a non-phone player anyway.
I would be pumped about the new ultimate evos today if I actually had any of the monsters that were updated. I'll just keep waiting for Awoken Bastet.
Okay, so:
- The game is apparently much less difficult than the mobile game. The addition of a defence stat in place of recovery ability is part of the reason. The Super Mario one, which I've not really played yet, is apparently a fair bit harder but nowhere near the mobile one. Seasoned mobile players should cruise through.
- There are daily dungeons. The week day ones seem to focus on certain elements, which is a bit redundant once you're far enough in the game to find those monsters routinely. Weekend ones, not sure.
- The pre-order bonus relics are end-game only, don't think you'll be getting Anima for the first couple of bosses.
- The RPG backdrop might annoy puzzlers who just want the dungeons. It's pure cliched typical stuff that isn't even trying to be original, so take or leave it per personal preference.
- The learning curve starts off pretty light, but seems to significantly ramp up around the Water Temple. By that point, you need to have a good grasp on the game's mechanics or you'll be crucified.
- Fuck the Fire Temple boss. Any boss less than half way through the game who attacks every turn, has an ability to take 90% off your health, and hits like a truck for over half your health if you haven't been grinding much, is going to hurt. I just made it through that after a good many attempts. Luck may be involved because if it hits you for 90% health then uses its powered up attack the next turn, and you've had no heart orbs on the board to heal inbetween - you're fucked, frankly. I assume it gets much harder from here, too.
- Can't speak to the variety of monsters but the game is reasonably generous in terms of giving you all five elements early. You're at the mercy of the RNG beyond that though, especially if you want eggs of evolved forms.
- Dungeon layouts are fixed, but the monsters you meet come from a random pool, and some are likely much rarer than others. This also means that if you're after a chest, fail to get it and reenter the dungeon, you might not see it again.
- Dragon Stones...not sure if they're randomly found in dungeons or if they're fixed for certain parts of it, but I'm sure I've seen them sometimes and not others. The rewards seem to be decent so far, so worth going after them.
- Dvolts are a form of currency thats main utility is apparently a lottery I've yet to unlock, which has upgrades and unique eggs, so grinding them becomes necessary later on.
Loving the game so far, looking forward to seeing what it continues to bring!
One thing I did notice about the 3DS game, which would apply to people who have played the mobile game/are going to play it in the future: Some monsters have had their evos changed. For example, the black knight evolves into the mystic dark knight in Z, but are two separate monsters in the mobile game.
Other way around. The soldiers always start off as Mystic (Element) Soldier. Then evolve into one of two choices (typically (Elemental Concept) Knight etc), then into more fearsome and unique sounding name.
The 3DS game sounds rather interesting. I'll def be picking it up then. Eventually.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI'm on board, since it comes out at midnight tomorrow...and I've got the day off, so it'll be a perfect time for me to dig in and get started!
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!Oh, a rather important change to how skills work. In PADZ, skills are charged up with a meter that is charged by making matches and taking hits (some monsters have abilities that auto-charge this, some enemies can reduce it). This means you can have to pick and choose which skills you use more carefully, but it does mean you can also use the same one repeatedly in the same turn if you have the SP for it.
Mario doesn't work that way, skills are on turn-timers.
That's certainly a more dynamic game style than normal P&D. That'll be a fun change.

"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeOne thing that I like about this game that isn't in regular P&D: your monsters gain experience after each battle. It beats having to rely on monster fusion all the time.
I hope you get tiny bits of eggshell in all your omelettes for the rest of your life!
Fun phone game for monster collecting and arranging tiles. It's free, except for the stuff you optionally buy.
I keep finding myself in possession of so many + monsters that I don't know how to use them...
