Basically what the title says. I want to create a genuine magnetic hero without it seeming "preachy" or everyone calling "*maincharactersname*Jesus", you know?

Should it be subtle? Overt and outright? Because Leadership is one of his primary traits and I want to avoid the pitfalls of a lot of stories I read (namely Shounen protagonists, but that's another thread.

I thought this was going to be about realistic magnet based superpowers, and as such have nothing really interesting to add.

Uh, so you want to make a character with charisma? That can be hard to do in a way that convinces the audience.

Essentially, yes. I want it to be subtle, because I don't want to beat the audience over the head with "He's a special snowflake rawwr!". All of the examples on the Magnetic Hero page are extremely direct and preachy "You are the one!" "Chosen One" etc.

Could be that everyone has a different reason for joining up with the hero as he travels along—I always thought Knights of the Old Republic II did that pretty well with the Jedi Exile. One person might be fleeing for his life, one might be 'assigned' to keep an eye on the guy by an ally he meets on the way, one might be straight-up hired to go along, et cetera, et cetera. It's a bit Firefly-esque, but it'd work pretty well, no? Everyone has their own reason for going along and it takes them time to realize that the common factor they all have is the hero.
