I imagine the Demons and Orcs might actually get along well, as they both know they are at little risk of being invaded by one another, the Orcs because the Plateau is too cold for the Demons to invade, and the Demons because they know the Orcs have literally no chance.

By the way, would anyone like to have a thriving Orc-Mage community in one of their lands, sort of seen as the main gathering point for Orcs who have been exiled from the Plateau for possessing magical abilities?

The Count isn't an adventurer or diplomat, nor does he still have this power. And obtaining it is damn near impossible. It's really just a fun bit of world-building, is all.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Okay guys really, no one else wants to work on stuff? I got a few ideas for international relations here:

  • I already worked out with Des the other day that the first non-Paung Pandalore was a Desert Elf called Pandalore the Binder. If any of you want to have had one of your race been a Pandalore and have an idea for the title of the their first one, I'm all ears.
  • Also if anyone happens to have gotten involved in a giant clusterfuck of a war in the last, you know, 1300 years or so, I'd be willing to work my guys into that, too. Pay well enough and you could get quite a big chunk of the country to fight for you. Or if it was a common threat, like some sort of outside force that took the initiative and threatened them, they'd work for 'free' alongside you guys.
  • I would imagine that the Pandalorians would have fought people a lot in the past, so if you're looking for someone to have been a random aggressor to you guys, just hit me up.

There's also large-scale events that a couple of us could have been affected by. Like if some ancient giant golem, resurrected dragon, necromancer, etc. created a large force that served as a temporary threat to several sovereign nations where we had to work together to defeat them, and possibly suffered some effects as a result of it.

Oh, and here's another unofficial map.

idea You know, this might sound crazy, zero-effort and amaeturish , but if we're looking for a common history, it might make sense for their to be some sort of 'World War'. Especially with all of the bloodthirsty countries who likely see colonies in countries that want peace, and the fact that we're t5alking about 1500 years here. There not being a major fistfight in the only continent on Alkenia just doesn't make sense.

Plus it brings about the possibility of backstabbings, betrayals, long-standing hatreds (and I suppose alliances), destroyed infrastructure lots of death, maybe even a previous country that was taken over, representing a visible gain. Then there's all of the motives involved, the prelude (possibly one of the things Nman mentioned), the actual war, and the aftermath, obviously some countries would be hit harder by this than others. Maybe there was even a second war after this, or a third, or a fourth? Something big like this is also a pretty good starting point for other, smaller events, maybe before or after it, that could be worked out. To be cliche , the possibilities are endless.

Of course, if you all reckon that I'm rambling about nonsense, then feel free to ignore it, its pretty outlandish anyways.

Crazy? Not at all. I already tried to do that with the Pandalorian War. If anyone wants in on beating up pandas, just ask. The Pandalorians basically declared war on everyone back then, but I made it an opt-in in case anyone didn't want to have that war on their record. Anyone who joins automatically gets to be on the winning side, since I'm the only one who lost. [lol] What about you Tricksen, you want in on that? Also I think since you have bear dudes, there might be some special relationship between Wyle and Pandoa nowadays? Either friendship or rivalry.

And if you guys seriously can't work together to come up with another war, I could always make a Second Pandalorian War.tongue

I've always felt wary of that sort of stuff in fantasy settings because it feels very post-Westphallian; I like fantasy setting that shows it less as organized nations which wage war for reasons and more squabbling dukes who are as likely to fight eachother as they are to fight the guys in the next Kingdom over, who will only go on a long and bitter war for very good reasons (say Crusade or existential threat as with a Mongol analogue) and otherwise will rebel the minute the King seems to have left for too long for victory to be worth it.

I'd rather have focus on local history and conflicts which may spill into eachother or small roles in distant conflict. Also Nman, according to your climate chart, the Silkie isles would be basically uninhabitable slabs of ice. I'm kind of wary of this.

[up][up]Logistically, Wyld has no reason to attack Pandoa. They can't lay claim to any land, and the Pandoa probably can't too. That's the only thing stopping me from accepting your offer basically, Nman.

[up] Except, in most of our nations, there is no king, mostly councils or democracy or Might Makes Right.

Guys, what do you think about the idea of a war across the whole continent? With different allegiances and stuff throughout some of the nations, still lasting today?

I suppose we'd have to think up a location for it first.

I don't know exactly how that would work if it's still going on, because we're all in one big ambassador dogpile. If we had ourselves a current war, or a cold war, then I think there'd be one fantasy-NATO clubroom, and one fantasy-Warsaw Pact place.

But if you can think of a way to make it fit the parameters of the RP, I'm in. I imagine that in that case the south-east, north, and west would be three distinct semi-alliances.

Or maybe it could have be that our diplomats are in peace talks?

1500? Dunno where I got 50 from in my head.

A world war could have very well resulted in the wake of the power vacuum following the fall of the Dragons. Obviously my people have no personal stake.

The only thing that occurs to me is that Oreia might have problems with Wyld's merchant ships intrudin on what it sees as it's turf. This would be complicated int that in time of other than outright war each principality tends to make it's own foreign policy so some would trade friendly, others would raid Wyld ships and others would try to coopt Wyld's merchants into being clients of theirs.

[up][up] Cool then. grin But I'd imagine that relations would be mostly friendly, nowadays, since pandas are bears, and the Yeti would be interested in Pandoa's bamboo, most likely trying to produce the same effect with their own trees.

[up] Perhaps some of your guys attacked Wyld's ships, or a pirate ship or one with a bloodthirsty crew attacked your guys and it culminated in a brief war? Not as large as the one between Oreia and Onogo, though, pretty short. It would also explain why Wyld's ships have a military guard. Perhaps relations are still patchy between the two nations as well?

Works for me. Also as said, relations between Wyld and Oreia would actually vary from Prince to Prince. Wyld would probably treat the hostile ones as pirates which, unless they actually attacked the islands themselves wouldn't piss off the High King, in fact he might encourage it behind closed doors to tone down the more uppity ones. Oreian politics can be...complex.

@ Fauxiosophe: Am wondering what relations between Oreia and the third large island group, Silkmare would be, especially since they're closer to each other than Oreia and Onogo. I'm thinking friendly and that the Brotherhood of the Wave in particular would be interested in fostering close relations with the Selkies.
