[up] I'm sorry, when did "Recognizable patterns done by certain show creators" become "Insult said show creators"?

When "saying creators have done bad stuff in recognizable patterns" became synonymous with "Insulting creators", apparently.

Hell, he even says the artists are good. When did we all become so thin-skinned... never mind, I know the answer to that one.

[up] The guy just said "Seth Mac Farlane has a terrible, half-assed animation style."

I don't think that's a recognizable pattern so much as an unneeded insult.

If I drew a horrible portrait of my father and my father told me "That's a horrible portrait" I wouldn't feel insulted. It's not like he told me "You're a horrible person with no talent". He's downright recognizing Mc Farlane's staff has talent, but nowadays everything turns the Bashing alarms on, it seems.

[up] Well, what I'm trying to say here is that he kinda doesn't get the point of this thread.

Well, when somebody is as much as an Acceptable Target around here as Seth is, it's very easy to jump to that conclusion.

By the way, that Seth Mac Farlane brainstorming session image proves my point about people with only a basic understanding of American Dad. I wonder if the person who made that actually bothered to watch the show beyond the first few episodes.

[up] I'm actually really tired of these sorts of opinions. Practically everybody says them. We get it, Seth Mac Farlane is an untalented hack. Sponge Bob hasn't been good since you grew up. All cartoons suck now. Find something new to say!

I'd rather hear people express opinions that nobody else would dare to say, like "Allen Gregory was a good show" or "Avatar The Last Airbender was a terrible piece of crap."

The pattern I see in most of Pendleton Ward's series, or rather, Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors, is that the shows are mostly about growing up, dealing with problems that are bigger than the adventures they're facing. Chris' biggest challenge is dealing with his emotions, while Finn is dealing with puberty.

It's actually something I've seen in most recent Cartoon Network shows as well, the successful series always deal with a certain topic pertaining growing up. Steven Universe is about a kid who's on his way to puberty, but also about three ancient beings, basically seniors, who are learning to deal with the fact that they're really out of touch with the real world. Steven is the naive kid who just teaches the old ones in his own way.

Regular Show is basically about two adults who haven't really grown up yet, but it's also about them having problems that some adults still face. They're actually growing as adults.

The Amazing World of Gumball also deals with growing up, but this time from the parent's perspective. Sure, the antics of the boys are the main focus, but the B-plot often involves Nicole dealing with having to raise her children.

That'd be nice if Richard wasn't such a stubbornly refusing to grow up (by in-universe enforcement, even!) stagnant character, or at least he still was last time I checked.

Well, I wouldn't be averse to making the case that most of the characters in the show who aren't Allen Gregory and Richard are at least remotely decent as cartoon characters, or at least aren't completely loathsome. But that's about the only good thing I can imagine someone saying about that show.

Fanfiction I hate.

[up] But that's the beauty in it. It's a refreshing opinion because barely anyone would dare to say it.

I suppose that is a point... my brain just has trouble processing it.

As long as they are sincere opinions and not spoken only for the sake of going against the grain...

Then again, I do like Uncle Grandpa and I don't think Johnny Test is the greatest evil to befall cartoons, so...

[up] I don't think history is going to look on these people's opinions kindly.

Today's trash, after all, is tomorrow's classics; and the classics of today become the overrated crap of tomorrow.

Depending on the case. Some trash will always be trash, and some classics will always be classics.

[up] True, but then again, there's a lot of stuff that people will call classic that really don't deserve it, and a lot of things people call trash that are far better than they think.
