Ooh, I gotta check it out. The anime looks a lot better than i thought it would.

Random thought; if ever they reach the later arc; one must wonder how the hell they would handle the only explicit sex scene (so far).

I come back after many months, and we're only on page 2. [lol]

I haven't touched the manga in quite a while. Well, in a month or two. I think I stopped around Hana and Kiyoshi under the blankets. Time to binge.

So busy though. @_@

I did naht.

This series.

INSANITY.

I take it this series is not your cup of tea, Handle? Did you start watching the anime?

I binged through the manga some months ago and I haven't laughed as hard in a long time. This series is indeed insane, but the sheer attention to detail and clear planning of the whole thing make it really consistent madness. Regarding more recent developments of the manga, I really enjoyed Ouroboros, and the manga's assertion that Hana is the objective best girl. Self-explanatory, I suppose.

A DOCUMENTARY INDEED!

Strange Bedfellows, those too. This manga is truly exploiting the Ouroboros for all it's worth.

That fourth panel is worthy of Oyasumi Pun Pun...

[up]Enjoying it? It is perfect. And fills me with so much nostalgia. Teens are so incompetent, so lacking in perspective, so abundant in energy...

I see someone hasn't read Devilman, eh?.

Anyway, I'm glad to see you changed your tune, Handle. What was that about this series being sick and ridiculous and not having any sympathy for the characters? tongue

Episode 2 of the anime is out. Seeing this episode almost feels like it was dedicated to the chairman's ass-man antics and Hana's urine exploits.

Prison School Ep.03 reminds me why Gakuto is one of the best characters an MC could have.

if i might make a suggestion don't read on foxmanga. the quality of the scans is usually quite bad and they watermark the images. kissmanga and batoto are better alternatives although i don't believe that batoto hosts prison school because of their mature content policies.

fun fact: akira hiramoto (creator of this series) is also the author of a fictionalized account of Robert Johson's life called Me and the Devil Blues. it's pretty much the furthest possible thing from Kangoku Gakuen in that's a serious drama with elements of magical realism.

I heard this was something he wrote out of spite when Me & The Devil Blues didn't sell or something.

Makes perfect sense. Moliere had the exact same problem, which is why the satire in his comedy is so savage.

I seriously don't know what to feel when it comes to this series at times. For instance you got someone like Meiko who's a bitch but then you see her past as a victim of bullying and she reverts to being submissive and meek for some time. The USC's punishment would have felt like karma if not for the fact that the ASC are worse.

Was she ever really a bitch, though? I mean, her (presumable) reaction to being told that the guys were getting off on the way she was treating them was to go 'Well, when you put in like that, I suppose I can see how that's not really an effective punishment', and then change absolutely nothing about her behavior.

So, I mean, there's no way we're looking at genuine antipathy there.

One of the best things about this series is definitely the fact that women actually get treated by people by the narrative, with their own struggles and desires. Most male-oriented series don't even bother showing women's thoughts or what they want out of life, but Prison School is very explicit about how the friendship between Mari and Meiko is tremendously important for the both of them.

I really, really liked the part in the flashback where they say that they're proud of each other, and about wanting to live life without shame. That sort of thing is really important, and it was treated so nicely that I didn't expect it from a series so relentless ecchi. A lot of other things about how the girls have unusual interests or talents (sumo, karate, idol potential) really highlights how much thought the author must have put into these characters. They really have a lot more depth than you'd expect.

The plot point about Kate having an infatuation with Mari was pretty impressive too. Not the sort of thing I'd have expected. Most kinds of homosexual attraction in manga remain purely subtextual or played for laughs, but it was treated relatively serious here, and it ended up concluding an important arc. It says something about this series; I'm not sure what but it says something.

[up][up]Like I said it's diffcult for me to understand how I'm supposed to feel about some of this stuff. My point was Meiko wasn't a very nice person when we first meet her and it's not like she was doing it for them at first. There's also her helping Mari's attempts to get the boys expelled. And really them getting off on it doesn't make it less wrong.

[up]It says something I'll admit. I just don't know if that something is good or bad.

Speaking broadly, it says that this is show that makes a point of portraying the cast as flawed and human.
