The hammerhaed sections are in no way better.

How were the teams set up in Citadel again? My favourite vehicle would probably be entirely based on that- I didn't care much for either them.

Re: Batarian: I'm pretty sure the thing there is meant to be that Shepard's translator wasn't updated for whatever they were saying, hence the codex entry you get immediately after that scene

The Hanmerhead? You mean that piece of wet tissue paper with the pathetic pea shooting cannon?

Eh, well I guess the Mako is better now that I remembered that the Mako's worst levels were all optional.

Gentlemen, gentlemen!

They're BOTH terrible and ME 3 is better for not having either of them.

Seriously though the Mako is a prime reason I never want to play 1 again. At least the Hammerhead is only in DLC.

No, I haven't seen that ingame.

Apparently it only shows up if you haven't downloaded BDTS. After you do it updates with the usual pic.

Mass Effect 1 in general had some shaky gameplay mechanics. The real nightmare was taking acid damage that ignores shields. Bad enough on foot, but when you are accustomed to only glancing at Mako shields and not the direct health you can easily be surprised when you explode within two seconds.

The Hammerhead in 2 was kind of similar to the entire game. More refined mechanics but not really inspired or innovative. While technically free-roaming, it still felt railroaded.

Yeah, I remember the original Batarian picture. It was super weird going into ME 2 having not played Bring Down the Sky.

Yeah. I think the current batarians we to do look pretty great though. They look like right 'ardmen and ne'er do wells.

I also found out in ME 1 that selling unwanted old gear to Michel is much more lucrative than any other seller in the game. I think if you do her sidequest she offers discounts and stuff and buys stuff from you at much higher prices than others, especially if you raise Intimidate to a high enough level to get the sell buff

Actually an exploit in the game was that after doing her quest, Dr. Michel would buy stuff from you at a higher rate than any other vendor. So you sell her your 20 most expensive items for, say, 10k credits, and then you buy them back from a different merchant for much cheaper, say, 8k, netting you 2k in the process. Wash, rinse, repeat. Obviously my math isn't precise, but you get the point.

That just sounds even sillier. But even without that after I start selling old stocks, doing side missions and levelling up I'm drowning in credits. I'm Space Tony Stark!

Yeah, money is... Really useless in ME 1 after like level 40.

I'm convinced Cerberus funded at least half of Shepard's reconstruction by just hacking her bank account.

40? Crap ended up redundant by level 20 in most of my playthroughs. I just liked having a huge bank account because why not.

Once you got amillion and unlocked Spectre Master Gear, everything else you personally used became worthless and was sold in short order. The only other stuff you'd buy are upgraded Spectre stuff, Colossus armour and Savant amps and omnitools.

Yeah, ME definitely fell into the typical RPG trap of money being utterly worthless after a certain point. In fact, I'd say that, by the time you do your third planet, you no longer need credits and at least 95% of the equipment you find or can buy is worse than what you have.

That was another thing that got improved in 2 and especially 3. Credits actually meant something. 2 does still have you reach a point where credits become meaningless, but it's not as big a problem. Especially since it also generally keeps the credits pretty much equivalent to equipment available for purchase. ME gives you too few credits early on to get everything you want to buy, and by the middle of the game, you have little need of available equipment and you have an absurd number of credits. 2 mostly avoids that.

And then 3 does it even better. You typically won't have problems buying equipment. But upgrading weapons costs a lot. You don't get enough credits to upgrade everything, so you actually do need to think about how you spend your credits, and credits don't end up being meaningless.

The real RPG trap that makes me dislike the genre in general is the absurd amount of gear you accumulate and have to organize, which is really frustrating having to sift through all the low-level crap once you've reached a certain threshold. ME-1 was pretty bad in that regard, you have to recycle dozens of the exact same guns and armor because you could potentially give one to each character. ME-2 went the opposite route and gave you very little customization options, almost everything was cosmetic variation or a uniform upgrade (ie Widow lvl 1 to Widow lvl 2). ME-3 hit the butter zone, all accessories were available to all teammates at all times, there was no time consuming gear allocation you had to worry about.

Yeah, more or less. At least with ME 1's inventory you can sell the trash in bulk to Michel or convert it to omni-gel.

I think once Class VII gear shows up is the point when money starts to become a mere object

So I was just Googling something on a whim with no real hope of it being a thing but the universe is kind. The book I wanted is in unabridged audio format.

What is also available are Karpyshyn's ME novels, Revelation and Ascension. Are they worth a try?

In audio format? I say go for it. They're not great, but they aren't terrible either.

Finished off Thessia and Horizon. And Miranda survived! I mean hey I'm not exactly that keen on her but she's a tough one and she's a loving sister.

So now all the pieces are in place. Time to do what I came here to do:

...

TIME TO DO THE CITADEL DLC :D
