YKTTW Hat Requests -- what to do?

Not quite sure why, but when people are asking for hats for their little yk's in the title or laconic it just, bugs me. It seems to be that once the OP thinks it's ready, they can't get it out quick enough, and it's more often than not preemptive, based on the number of current yk's with multiple hats that are still undergoing major work. The OP of this variety generally adds a hat themself as soon as the three days is up, which does encourage more people to add hats. It just means a lot more pages needing to head to TRS, and I think that asking for hats is something which should be discouraged.

Any input? I'd like to hear your thoughts, including if you think there's little substance to my opinion. Consensus is king, and all.

Like this one, which still isn't quite sure what it is — though the examples did just get cleaned up — and has two hats with "(hats plz)" in the proposed title.

Asking for hats in the laconic is not good. The laconic is about the proposal, not a place to beg for hats. I've removed the hat pimping from the laconic on that one.

Technically, it's okay to ask for hats, as the existence of the adminisrivia page Needs Launching Votes proves.

Many people do so either in the title of the trope or in the laconic, though, so we may need to discuss what to do with those. (At least one mod disapproves of the latter use to plead for hats, as we can see here.)

Ask for hats once you think the YKTTW is in launch-ready condition. If you think it's ready but it doesn't have enough hats, asking "why does it not have hats?" will be more productive that simply saying "Give it hats, please."

The title and laconic are not the place to plead for hats. People see those before they even begin to read the write-up, the examples, or the discussion, and they can't judge whether it's hat-worthy without reading all three of those things.

The title and laconic is also used for other things, like in "Crowd Tropes (index)","Newfangled Gizmos (working title)" and "Weird World War - Title Crowner In Progress". I think we should allow this type of stuff, including "Hats?". People need to read and understand the trope to vote in a name crowner, so there isn't really any difference between that and asking for hats.

I disagree.

Tags like (index) or (working title) are information that contributes to the YKTTW, and deflect objections that aren't relevant ("This isn't a trope!" "No, it's an index.") or have already been brought up and are under discussion ("This name sucks." "Yes, we know.")

(Title crowner in progress) is a flag to look for the crowner.

(Still needs examples) is an indication that the sponsor knows it's not launch ready yet, as well as information for commenters namely, "we've got the description and the name hashed out, but we still need more examples".

(Hats please) is just pimping.

(Hats please) means that the sponsor thinks the draft is ready for hats. People should then check the draft to see if it's true.(If not, they should probably inform the sponsor.)

I just went through the first couple pages of YKTTW. None of the ones that had (Hats please) in the laconic or title was anywhere near ready to go.

My thinking is that if a YKTTW can't organically muster the hats it needs (without pimping), then it is not a good YKTTW and should not launch. The last thing we need is a ton of marginal trope ideas, especially given how many of them end up in TRS/discard.

Asking for examples isn't something for the title/laconic either, as there's a tag for that, as there is for needing a better name, but sticking (working title) next to the title is more forgivable so that commenters don't get into rows about it when the description is probably the main focus at that point.
