Dang it there better be a season two! Gah, cliffhanger.
Also, I still haven't gotten my taste of a singing swordfight.
EDIT: Spoilers

That was...
Kind of disappointing.
It felt... everywhere.
First a duel with Gareth and Galavant. Then Izzy's never-before-mentioned-or-hinted-at-Fiance arrives. Then the Chef plans to poison everyone. But then he doesn't and its back to the duel but Richard vs. Gareth.
But Madelana kills Richard's brother so, eh.
It felt everywhere. Even the pacing was slower than usual. And none of the songs particularly stuck out to me either.
And I don't think I really thought this was going to be a multi-season thing. I figured it'd wrap up its plot and it'd be this short sweet succulent little dish. Not sure if I like it, not just having a season 2, but EXPECTING a season 2 and wrapping up exactly nothing.
Yeah, I share some of those feelings as well.
I hope season two is the last season as well.
I fell like they were trying so hard to subvert the classic fairy tale that they ended up not really knowing what to do.
One Strip! One Strip! At least the Secret Mission song was a hoot.
It actually annoyed me to death. It went on too long and just, wasn't very fun or interesting to me. It didn't have an arc to it.
I do theater a lot and I remember when I was in a production of Beauty and the Best and our hardest number was always 'Gaston'. It wasn't that it was a particularly hard song to actually sing but because there's no arc to it. 'A Change in Me' from the same musical progresses in Belle's character development over the course of the show. With 'Gaston', there's nothing. Its just the towns folk singing about how great and amazing Gaston is with no progression in ideas or slowly becoming more and more over the top as the number progresses (as 'Be Our Guest' does). It starts the same way it ends.
The number 'Togetherness' from the episode 'Comedy Gold' has an arc to it; It starts with everyone happily enjoying the adventure and it progresses into everyone complaining about each other. 'No One But You' starts with Madelenna feeling like she's surrounded by idiots who can't do a thing and then coming to the realization that only she can get anything done and its up to her. The Drunken Galavant and Richard song just didn't do anything. It was filler.
But it was fun, hilarious filler.
TV By The Numbers says certain to be cancelled. Sucks for the cliffhanger.
I don't mind really, when you get down to it this wasn't a good show. A weird and entertaining show at times, but not by any standard good.
"I hasten to interject that I have potentially time-sensitive data that merits immediate consideration." - VaarsuviusYeah, it actually kept bugging me how not good this was. I mean it breaks the mold so hard on normal TV fare that someone really must have gone out on a limb for it, so you'd assume they had like a really brilliant script, a bunch of great performers, unbelievably catchy songs or anything exceptional, really, that would make people want to invest in this.
Instead everything is sorta funny or mostly mediocre. I mean you'd watch it since it was different and taking a chance but you really didn't enjoy it. Felt like everything could have used a bit more work.
I thought it had a good start. And the typical filler fare of a Tournament and getting captured by Pirates weren't bad either. It just sort of declined when it got to Valencia.
I thought the show was great, though that may be my love of musicals blinding me to any flaws.
The ending was disappointing, though. Interesting? Kind of. But still disappointing. I really hope that "TV by the numbers" thing, whatever it is, is wrong.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."TVB Ythe Numbers uses Nielsen ratings to judge if the show will get renewed. Sometimes TVB Ythe Numbers say the show will be cancelled but it still gets renewed.
The Nielsen system is outdated because they only guess how many are watching the show based on the people with Nielsen boxes. They also don't factor online views, DVR, and On Demand views.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureOh. Yeah. Nielson is basically worthless.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Having watched the end of this, I'd like to at least say one thing: IF they don't ever revive it again, then we might expect some interesting fan fiction.
Oh, I hope they'll make a musical out of it—it seems to be very open to that medium.
Looking back at everything that happened in the final two episodes.
I get the impression that it really was only going to be a single season show and they were going to wrap up everything, but then they wanted a second season so they can't wrap everything up, so they meandered through two episodes to waste time for the finale to be over.
I mean, we basically have a lot of side plots cleaned up by Episodes 5 and 6. Galavant has realized his love for Isabella and forgiven her. Madelenna has started her coup with Richard's brother. Richard got his guidance from Xanex to have his character development and potentially a change of heart. Everything is in place for a Series Finale to the story.
But, they suddenly can't end everything. So, we'll lock Isabella and basically everyone in a cell for most of the episode even thought they out number everyone 1 to 10. We'll have a joking 'Poison them all' moment that won't go anywhere. And, yes, we'll introduce this cousin of Isabella's that's never been mentioned or hinted at all and will probably be nothing more than an annoying brat that no one likes (Good god I hate child-tropes!) just to fill up time and ultimately solve nothing.
It doesn't end like a Finale. There's hardly any bombastic numbers or much singing and no plots are really resolved and its not even an ACT 1 closer. It just... ends...
Cliffhanger doesn't surprise me. There seems to be a trend this year in "miniseries" that are actually extended pilots. This show, Agent Carter and Ascension all fit the bill IMHGO.
Trump delenda est...don't tempt fate with Agent Carter with that!
"You can reply to this Message!"I would really like if Agent Carter is an extended miniseries, because man is it good.
"It's so hard to be humble, knowing how great I am."Don't get me wrong, I'd love a season 2 too, I'd just not rather it end on a cliffhanger without knowing it gets one
"You can reply to this Message!"I tried to get into this last night, but after two episodes I just couldn't. The humor just hit me wrong from minute one and never let up. I found it annoying.
Okay, I liked it, but the last two episodes definitely felt drawn out for where it ended. Also, while I liked it, I think that a few episodes at a time is all that can really be handled. Will be interesting to see if it returns as filler for a 4-week run. Also, I think it is unfortunate they ended in such a way that I honestly don't really care how or if things resolve, just seemed to loose all momentum. I think this was a show where the journey was everything, and that trying to do a cliff-hanger really didn't work in its favor.
Yeah, the "Season" finale underwhelmed me too. To be honest, the series didn't seem like it was going that way.
I said it before, and I'll say it again:
I feel like the series was so bent on subverting Fairy tale tropes that they didn't really know what to do after the supposedly ultimate Bad Ass Galavant failed again for the millionth time and looked like an idiot.
One Strip! One Strip!I disagree. I think they had some good plot points, if maybe too many haphazardly thrown away really early (Galavant's rival guy is never mentioned again, Sid's village never comes up later), but they weren't bad and explored the characters and gave some nice development.
However, the ending just went to a goddamn standstil in moving anything forward. I am ALMOST certain that they decided to rewrite at last second to set up a second season instead of just ending. Galavant was simple. It was meant to be simple. Evil King steals the girlfriend and rules the land. Drunken Hero meets new friends and goes on a quest to stop him. ITS SIMPLE.
But, there are so many points and things introduced in those last two episodes that there is NO WAY that it was planned from the start. Suddenly Galavant has issue kissing? And Isabella has a younger cousin that's never been mentioned before? EVER? And this is all suddenly added in the finale? Screams of rewrites and the more I think about it, the more bitter I feel.
I'm guessing that they're hedging a serious bet on getting renewed for a second season.
