Locking a thread after a clock...

I noticed a thread that was locked where the lock announcement came two days after the previous post in the thread. There was no other pink post in the thread (ie no "clock is set" post) other than that lock announcement.

Is this normal? I can't seem to find clarification on this.

Which thread?

I have noticed that very rarely a thread gets clocked but the person doing so doesn't announce it; if I notice, I usually post the clocking announcement myself.

Oops, I missed the clock setting announcement because it wasn't pink. :P

It still seems a little quick, but at least it wasn't as big a deal as I thought...

The clock is a warning that the thread is going to be locked for lack of interest/action if progress isn't made. To serve its function, it has to have some teeth — if we clocked threads and then left them open long past the time the clock expires, clocking won't accomplish anything.

Please note that we'll ignore the fact that the clock ran out is the thread starts showing some progress during the three days it was running. But "Progress" means that either the discussion picks up, more suggestions are made, or a crowner is made and Hollered for hooking, or hooked, or called and locked. Simply bumping the thread with posts calling attention to it won't prevent it from being locked when the clock runs out. We aren't just looking at activity in the thread. We're looking for meaningful activity.
