Okay, so what's his - er - her original personality?

You can't tell that the "man" on the right's normally The Ingenue just by looking at her.

The dialogue gives it enough context for me to call it a solid Keep Until Better Image Suggested; all that copyright info on the side can be cropped out, though.

A little weak, but doesn't harm the page, and does sort of explain the trope, even if it uses a lot of words to do so.

[up] On that note, I don't see a way to avoid a text-heavy pic with this, and for me it's a quick enough read to not be a worry on that issue.

Other than How To Pick A Good Image advising against "Wall of Text" pictures as a great image ("but it might make a good quote though") and saying that something that's too text- or plot-dependant is "not picturable"?

Either way, those guidelines might need to be rewritten if you guys don't mind certain text-heavy pictures like this one. Even if you think that it doesn't contradict those guidelines, perhaps some extra bits added to them to clarify what you consider acceptable "text heavy" pictures would be fine.

That may be a job for the Trope Repair Shop, though.

Keep Until Better Image Suggested, although only weakly. I did cut the copyright info from the image, though.

[up] The first section of the guidelines seems to imply that's not kosher, although I don't know exactly what you cut out, so I don't know for sure...

It's a panel from a multi-panel image. The page you cite says "and there isn't any more to that work" and "We can show a part of the work that doesn't have the copyright symbol, though, and it is preferable to do so." - there is much more.

I was looking at the third bullet point: "If there is a copyright symbol © with or without a name on the work, we can't simply remove it. That wouldn't be honest, or fair." Now that you point that out, the section is a little unclear on how the three points relate to each other.

This image hardly strikes me as a Wall of Text. A little word-heavy compared to some, no doubt, but it's not exactly pure exposition. I'm sure that we've all seen real walls of text.

The original version had the copyright line from the original comic strip left in. It happened to be adjacent to that panel in the strip, so it struck me as somewhat polite to leave it there, ensuring that the artists got all the credit they deserved:

However, if people think that's too messy, the cropped version is as legitimate as any other "quoted" panel without a copyright statement.

My vote is keep it. "Has dialogue" is very different from "Wall of Text" and doesn't always equal "Visuals Add Nothing"

My original objections is that the picture relies on the caption in order to tell us that the "man" to the right is The Ingenue besides the comment that she wouldn't normally scream in that situation note , and thus, would technically be out of character by the way she acts.

That, and we can't tell if that's a disguise just by looking at her, and if you were to take the caption away, you wouldn't know what her original personality's supposed to be.

The dialogue seems to implies it, thoughnote , but a more clearer context doesn't hurt.

After all, we don't know if this "Ruby" is a seperate character or an alternate identity just by looking at the picture. (I may be pushing this one, though.)

The dialogue tells us that her original personality is that of someone (a) with a female name (b) who doesn't engage in blackmail. The figure in the picture apparently has a beard and is definitely engaging in blackmail. The disguise makes her look a bit dubious, and she says that "<male name> is rubbing off on me".

Personally, I thought that it crammed rather a lot about the trope into one image.

Then again, I may be working myself too much, as I started to see more how it demonstrates just by looking at it the second time.

That, and along with [up][up] pointing out something for which didn't occur to me completely, I'll go with Keep Until Better Image Suggested for now.
