The show I worked with was in production for two months, and in post for a year. But that was all live action and heavy VFX.

Fresh-eyed movie blogFunny that you should bump this thread, because I was just about to dig it up to tell everyone that we now have a date for when the reboot launches.
April 14th, folks. That's when we get movie sign according to Netflix's Twitter.
"I shall not be foolish again, my dear Gwendolyn!"I cannot wait. I've been watching some original MST 3 K for a few days. And it is glorious.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u8p-tnJWGoI think the reason we've been so quiet on here is b/c Joel Hodgson has asked backers not to discuss the sneak peeks on public forums. Because it's a backer benefit that backers see it first. Kinda puts a damper on discussion, sadly. Though the Kickstarter backers-only forum is pretty active.
Aside from the pre-screenings, which he specifically asked people to not share links to (and of course they did anyway), I haven't seen a lot of things worth discussing lately, even before the ticketing leak broke his faith in the backers' discretion.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI wanted things to be kept secret anyway. Mostly because I want to be surprised.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3u8p-tnJWGoSo, there's a 20-episode season now on Netflix and the first episode is on Manos: The Hands of Fate.
Is this set of episodes like the last season of MST 3 K before the big comeback, which is apparently coming April 14th?

Personal opinion: It appears that they have nailed the look. Like, it's slightly more polished, but still looks like a cross between B movies and cheap cosplay.

It's a collection of the show's greatest hits from its original 1988-1999 run, as voted on by fans. It's not a "season".
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Netflix calls any collection of episodes a season.
Fresh-eyed movie blogHow exactly is Rifftrax going to be affected by this? I mean, it seems like people wouldn't want to pay money to download an audio file (or even a full video file) when they could just watch the new show for free. Is Rifftrax going to end? If not, are they going to make sure that movies that were featured on Rifftrax aren't featured in the new show (you know like "Plan 9 From Outer Space") as that would just be redundant?
There's room for more than one movie-riffing game in town. People come for the perspectives/gimmicks of specific comedians, and it looks like RiffTrax and the new MST3K will be taking as different tacts as...well, RiffTrax and the old MST3K.
How about some trailer, scarecrow?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Yeah, and Riff Trax's big thing is that they can do films that MST3K would never be able to get the rights for. I've contemplated buying the original cut of the LotR movies just to hear them riff on it. (I've got the Extended Editions.)
About damn time they riffed on Reptilicus.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? Can't wait for the Donald Trump jokes, hee hee.
Trumpy!!!
Man, I was so happy to not be in the live chat when Pod People played on this year's Turkey Day Marathon.
Fresh-eyed movie blogThe most surprising thing about the collection on Netflix is that they have The Pumaman, which means must have finally figured out who owned the rights to that.
Experiment 903, Pumaman, saw DVD release back in 2014. They've had that one sorted for a while.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. The "season" on Netflix starts with Manos: The Hands of Fate...
That is some advanced MT S3k there, not beginner-friendly.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984The one I found most inaccessible so far is Secret Agent Super Dragon. Though there was one about some WMD late in the 2015 marathon that was about as dull, but I was sleepy and spent most of it on the phone with family, so I wasn't very tuned in.
I set up my account for the new site that only backers can see right now, but I didn't see anything worthwhile yet.

Fresh-eyed movie blogYeah, the Netflix collection is corralled from fan favorites, which is maybe not the best approach? There's also very little making it clear that it's a buncha unrelated episodes rather than one coherent season, which also makes it inaccessible for newbies.
Granted, I think the goal is availability, not accessibility. Like, I don't think they expect anyone to be watching the classic episodes because they happen to be on Netflix's main page. The desired result is probably more like, if a friend recommends the show, they can go "oh, it's on Netflix, that's quick and easy." 90% of why MST 3 K endured long enough for the Kickstarter to happen is word of mouth, it's not like the show's been especially well-advertised since 1999.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.it's gonna be really weird being able to see whatever continuity develops in the new series actually develop instead of just dropping in and having to go with whatever random nonsense is happening in the host segments.
Fresh-eyed movie blog
They've been working on the show since January, though it really doesn't feel like it.
But yeah, actually shooting tends to traditionally be the shortest part of the creative process, regardless of what you're doing.
