A "pre-sequel," set between the games Borderlands and Borderlands 2, has been announced for later this year. It will take place on Pandora's moon, and feature jetpacks and a new element, cryo.

Story-wise, it's about Jack's rise to power. He's apparently mission control, while you play as either Wilhelm the Enforcer (cyborg), Nisha the Lawbringer (the Sheriff), Athena the Gladiator (assassin from the first game's DLC), or Claptrap the Fragtrap (militarized claptrap).

Odds the game ends with Jack betraying the player and they wind up dead?

What platforms is this coming out for?

[up][up]Well, since you're playing as his allies from the second game, I'm gonna have to say probably not.

[up] Ah. I haven't played Borderlands 2, so consider me educated on that particular matter.

Unless possibly playing as Athena, slim to none. All of the other playable characters live into Borderlands 2 (Wilhelm being the first Hyperion boss you kill, Nisha becoming the Sheriff of Lynchwood, and Claptrap being the Fyrestone Claptrap that survives Borderlands 2 and all of its DLC).

It threw me by surprise because I thought this was the adventure game that Telltale was making.

And wow...you're playing as two of Jack's henchmen?

Could be good. I'm expecting a moderately good Mission-Pack Sequel with a few twists. Gearbox undoubtedly has a next-gen Borderlands 3 in the works, but it's doubtful they'd be willing to damage the Borderlands brand too much by releasing a crummy game, so I expect this to be Borderlands 2: More of the Same Edition.

[up] I watched a little bit of gameplay footage, and that is exactly what it seems to be.

[up]x3: 4, actually. Athena and Claptrap are also working for Jack due to reason currently unknown.

[up][up]For many people, that would be fine. For me, I'll be waiting for a sale/the GOTY edition, since it will undoubtedly have lots of DLC. (I mean, they even mentioned that part of the reason for a new game was lack of memory for new BL 2 DLC)

I'm definitely a little cautious. With Borderlands 2 it was a year before we saw all the hunters and another month before we saw them in action. Hell, it was a few months before we saw ANY game footage. Here itfeels like they've played all their cards.

It definitely feels more like DLC, but I'm willing to be optimistic. If what's here is substantial, I'm willing to drop sixty bucks on Moonrakker.

Borderlands 2 is one of my all time favourite games, but I'm going to give this one some time before I decide wether or not to buy it. Honestly, I would be happy waiting another two years or so for Borderlands 3 without a game being released in between. I'll always take a full title over something that seems to be half baked.

That doesn't mean I don't think it's going to be good though, but I doubt this game is going to create many new fans of the series like 2 did for me.

It's really DLC that they couldn't fit into the memory limitations of BL 2 anymore. Plus it's in a different time period with different characters, and not everyone buys DLC, etc. It'll probably end up packaged with some BL 2 Ultimate Collection sometime.

I think it would be best to refer to this as a Standalone Expansion Pack for Borderlands2.

Already decided that I'll be playing Athena, I loved her in the BL 1 DLC.

Isn't it 100% likely to be the Sheriff? That's what she does as a boss.

I really hope she is the sniper. Don't know why, but I like the possibilities in them fleshing out the woman that could fall for the smirking psycho douchebag that is Handsome Jack. At the very least she has an actual name now. (They still should've named her Jhonni, though.)

[up][up][up] You could play someone else and just use sniper rifles. Then THEY would be the sniper!
