Hi there. This is my thoughts about no examples in some trope pages.

Some tropes have the phrase "No Examples Please" on their pages. It is justified if it is to avoid flame wars or the page only explains the trope, but some people who did not expect it would feel deceived because after a long text suddenly they are greeted with a huge bold text "no examples please" for whatever reason. It seemed like a way of giving a middle finger to the audience. Sounds kind of harsh to put it at the end of the page, isn't it? Especially if the trope is not controversial to begin with.

So I am suggesting the phrase should be placed on the beginning instead of being at the end of the page. This instantly tells the readers what they should expect before reading the trope page.

To be fair, a lot of people come here for the descriptions and not the examples, so it makes sense to leave the warning last.

The "no examples" note is intended for editors, not readers. We put it in the visible text, as opposed to in a comment, mainly because a lot of people will click the Edit button and not bother to read comments.

It would be pretty obvious if the page doesn't have examples kind of pointless to put it at the beginning for something so obvious.

Having it visible instead of commented out makes it obvious to editors the second they come to the page what not to do as the commented out stuff is sometimes overlooked.

It makes sense to me for a page to say "No Examples, Please" in the place where the examples would be.

And just as many people come here for the examples. What's the point of discussing writing conventions of fiction when we're not even allowed to talk about specific ones? A definition is largely useless without context.

The Flame Bait tropes make sense to have moderated, but some are just absurd.

Ahem, this isn't a general topic to contest exampleless pages.
