Back at the other town? Following their trail by smell? I'm kind of expecting her to show up at some point yelling at them for forgetting about her. Because, really, it seems like they just forgot about her. She casually jumps off the cart and they suddenly get news that there are wanted posters of them so they hightail it in a hurry. I figured that "suddenness" was a relevant part of the scene.
I figured she was off doing her thing, you know, like an actual cat. I'm guessing she'll crash the party when Gillette's group shows up again. Probably during the exchange? Didn't seem believable that she would get lost that easily.
Was it just me or did those building in the beginning seem really, really tall?
Is each Chaika an embodiment of some emotion or something? Red wants revenge. White wants a funereal and two others have been mentioned. And they all seem to have their heads stitched on? WTF? Well, we got plot at least.

Well, yeah, she left because she's a cat wandering around, but then they left her behind by leaving without waiting for her. I didn't mean to imply that she got angry and stormed off or anything like that. She just happened to not be on the cart when they skipped town.
Episode 5:
- Having a dragoon around will make their journey more tedious, especially since Fredrica's looking for the next kill.
- Akari's a nice sister, protecting Toru from non-existent events.
- So, the Chaika imposter thing's more important than I thought. I honestly thought the Chaika I've always seen was the only one that mattered. So, this one's red, very different from Chaika White in terms of features and personality, her last name is different, and she's vengeance-driven.
- So... There was one true Chaika, but then she got split into different colored Chaikas that embody the real Chaika's emotions. That explains why they all seem to have a scar around their necks. Or not!
- Chaika hostage situations: Chaika White was treated rather nicely, while Chaika Red was brutally tortured. Poor girl. Fiendish Acura siblings, having some good eats in front of her like that...
- I really like Team Gilette.

Just like a real cat!
That reminds me: Did they skip a bunch in there? It kind of felt like it. Gillette gave the impression he had been chasing Chaika for a while and it seemed weird to put Fredrica on a bus right after recruiting her.
Episode 5. In which there's another.
Great judge of character, she's not.
That dragon is so mature. Instant Comic Relief.
I can see Chaika can't wait to have a taste of that food.
Those were some ugly skethes.
Shippers on the team. And they're not subtle about it. Well, they are to him. Sort of.
I think that face when he told her not to be shocked was probably her best shocked face.
He doesn't recognise that way of talking?
That's actually a smart tactic for finding out her name. And effective torture. They sure know what they're doing.
If she's tied on the front, they wouldn't exactly need to release that for her to eat. Which kind of makes it even more obvious what their disposition is.
You mean he hasn't chased them for a while by now? And it's really too early to call bus on the cat's non-appearance.
Check out my fanfiction!Incidentally, I couldn't help but notice that theoretical good guys were treating their captive a lot worse than their counterparts.
Though they did get stuff with the less cooperative captive, so that might have something to do with it.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."I'm still not convinced that anyone on this show is the good guys.
I think it's very deliberately grey all around so far.
Check out my fanfiction! So far this seems like a cross between Advent Children and Scrapped Princess. Complete with mutilated body parts.
, It might be more accurate to say I'm not convinced anyone is the bad guys.
This might be one of those shows where everyone is working for the villains without knowing it. Both Chaikas seem surprisingly non-villainous for the supposed daughter of an evil emperor, but the memory gaps are really suspicious. Someone is probably manipulating them and I have a feeling it's not to create a world of happiness and rainbows.
Already?
Check out my fanfiction!Apparently the project was planned as a split-cour from the beginning. It might be that they were waiting to see the initial reaction before deciding whether or not to go ahead with the second part, but I suspect it's more likely that they were waiting to finalize details for the second season.
Edit: To be specific, I'm referring to "season" in the context of "summer-fall-winter", not in the sense of "continuous set of episodes", and certainly not in the sense of "block containing approximately one dozen episodes". Pet peeve of mine.

I'm guessing it was planned as 2 cours all along.
Whoo, second season!
Maybe I'm showing my age, but the multiple Chaikas remind me a bit of the Flickers from The SoulTaker, though they were a lot less identical. Maybe they'll do Highlander quickenings and absorb each other's skills?
Episode 6:
- Another day, another set of animals out to kill everyone. This time, it's the cockatrice. So that guy really does control animals. ...Which means it really was a wild killer unicorn back then!
- Fredrica would do anything for a fight.
- The king must've been thinking this while the meeting was ongoing. Booorrrriiiing. That's why he was catching some Zs.
- A myth, you say? Fine, whatever you say. Gives Chaika more time to end the world.
- Chaika Red strikes a tough bargain. It was something Toru could not refuse. But he has his pride as a saboteur. That, and Chaika White's too soft. So no hook-up for you, Red.
- Trade successful. And when it's all said and done, they are enemies for real. Shame. If it wasn't for the 'there can only be one Chaika' mindset, they all could be comrades.
- Fredrica's Akari impression was spot-on. Seriously, look at how totally serious she is!
...Oh, and new season? Yaaay.
Honestly, the "there can be only one Chaika" seems like it's just stuck in there so they can't work together. Would make to much sense otherwise.
I can understand not wanting to work with your bizarro twin.
To be fair it seems to be Red Chaika is the only one holding that opinion. White Chaika doesn't seem that opposed to the idea in principle.
I don't think White Chaika is paying very much attention to what's going on.
Well, there was obviously some green jelly involved there, but also, they wanted the body parts didn't they? And for something else than White Chaika did.

I kind of assumed she got back on at some point, because removing a character from a storyline typically get a little more fanfare than that.
And, really, that doesn't answer the question of where the heck she was.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."
