City reminds me oddly a lot of Mr. Tayama's "Tokyo Utopia" from SMT IV.

Watched the sub.

The three kids saying they had their lives screwed up the same way Kurosaki did (only they had nothing from the start) and that the way he's been doing things is over the top, seeing everyone else as an enemy to be defeated. He's actually a lot like Shinji.

I suspect him coming to understand this might play a role in his decision to want to end the duel. Either that, or he just decides it's a waste of time, since he says in the preview that he has other guys who he wants to beat up.

Shit. I had something else I wanted to say, but I seem to have forgot it for now. But I'll be back.

Seems odd those kids think Dennis got bullied, since even if they weren't present to hear him provoking Shun, he was causing just as much destruction.

They might have heard what he did, and since he's taking on Crow, they just don't like him.

Crap. I lost my thought about the last point I wanted to make from my previous post again. Every time I think I have it, it slips away before I can get it down.

I think this "stop the Duel thing" will be because Shun will see Sora.

That would make sense. Seeing an actual academia agent there would make him want to focus on what he perceives to be the real threat.

I remembered what I'd wanted to say:

Roget (it's not Roger?) said that Yuya would be duelling the winner of this duel. So who do you think will provide the more interesting duel in terms of plot : Kurosaki, who still has to find out what happened to Yuuto, and isn't really a fan of Yuuya right now, or Crow, who's starting to think Yuuya is just a tool for the council and the Tops, and is taking up Shinji's mantle, even if he doesn't think it's the best way?

Roget (yes, it is Roget. I don't know why everyone decided to say his proper when they completely neglect saying Ute's, Hugo's and Joeri's proper names though) said Yuya might duel the winner. It is as likely as Yuya dueling Sergey or Hugo.

Oh. I assumed he'd definitely be duelling against the winner of this duel, but I forgot that who duels against who is random.

Never mind then. It was a waste of time remembering that it seems.

Yuya doesn't need to duel Sergey because he knows Yuzu is safe already, so narratively he would get nothing out of it. Yugo vs. Sergey is a better fit because Yugo and Yuzu grew close over the series and Yugo has no way of knowing Yuzu's condition.

That also means Yuya vs. Crow will happen after Shun loses. Crow can continue the Shinji narrative better when he's dueling Yuya because Yugo is in the same boat as Crow anyway.

Come to think of it, if Yugo is gonna to duel Serena, who's left besides Sergey?

Who else is still in the Tournament?

Sergey and Yuya are in the semi-finals. Crow vs. Shun is ongoing, which means Serena and Yugo are the only ones left.

Because Roger actually makes sense as a name. Ute, Hugo, and Joeri are bullshit names that don't sound anything like what they're being called in the show.

Well, if the H in Hugo is silent, and you use a Scandinavian way to pronounce Joeri (which makes the J silent) then those could sound appropriate.

But that's just stretching things. Those names are both silly and completely miss how they're supposed to be counterparts, since the names sound and look nothing alike that way.

I can buy the h being used while saying Yugo, but not the others.

Roget sounds fine for a guy who doesn't have a bunch of counterparts.

I dunno what y'all are on about, but if you pronounce Joeri in Dutch it sounds exactly like Yuri. That one makes sense.

I generally take the romanizations that the anime comes up with with a grain of salt given that they choose some pretty bizarre ones sometimes such as "Lotten", and I've never seen anywhere else constantly render the shu sound as "sy".

I dunno, perhaps one of the staff members did a search for "Yu-Gi-Oh ARC-V Yuri" and was rather surprised to find the results to be rather un-family friendly.

Every time I see "Ute" I automatically read it as "Yoot". That or "Yoot-Ay"

From what I can tell, the only famous "Roget" was Peter Mark Roget, who was a British Physician, Natural theologian, and lexicographer. He's responsible for writing Thesauruses. Then again, Roget is also a fairly uncommon name, so perhaps that might explain it. In any case, Jean-Michel's name is probably only meant to sound "Fancy" instead of having any deeper meaning.

Duel 81. AND ACTION!

  • Now Shun's insisting that The Lancers ain't his buddies. He tries so hard to be dark. Too hard. That invasion sure messed him up good.
  • *peck, peck*.
  • As expected, the Raid Blackwings War is quite epic.
  • Roger's so dishonest. You can totally see it on his dirty, lying, egotistical face. ...Yuuya, do the right thing and refuse his honeyed words.

That Avenge Vulture peck was adorable. But it does raise the question on whether or not these monsters are sentient. I meam, Hip Hippo, Tuning Magician, and now Avenge Vulture all seem to express some awareness of the situation.

Though it's possible that the computer in charge of processing the duel is simply simulating personalities, with the exception of Tuning Magician who could just be a figment of Yuya's fractured psyche or something along those lines.

I figure all Yuyas monsters became real after they became pendulums. Along with the Magicians.

[up]Fair enough, but Hip Hippo and Tuning Magician are both completely unchanged from their original forms. Hip Hippo has always been a non-pendulum monster, after all.

@Chariot: Your post tells me you misread. The post you responded to was asking why everyone is using Roget now.

Also, the only one of those three that actually doesn't match is Ute. Japanese transliterations (as in other languages to Japanese) are quite imprecise and I could buy the other two being valid attempts.

Anyone else still reading the manga?

[up]Yep. I personally like the direction the manga is currently going. There's a better establishment for the rules of Action Duels (Limited number of action cards, cards are in set locations, and only one player can pick up an action card a turn). Also, the Solid vision is woven into the setting a bit more than the anime, with Yuya/Yuto/Batman using it to escape or create hologram images of himself.

Ute works because the O in TO can be romanized as silent. So, it's supposed to be pronounced as "Yut". Ironically, the one Yuu who takes his pronounciation from English is the one English-speakers most make fun of.
