When did the Heartland Invasion first begin?

They mention that Academia invaded 3 years ago. Serena mentions the (upcoming) invasion in her and Reiji's flashback 3 years ago. But judging by Dennis' flashback and the recent flashbacks, the invasion was much more recent, perhaps not even a few months ago. Everyone looks the same as in the present. Dennis instigated the invasion, during which Yuri captured Ruri in the chaos.

Episode 104 shows the invasion while Yuto is in his Resistance outfit but Ruri is in her pre-invasion outfit (which she also wore when she met Dennis), yet she wore her post-invasion outfit when she was captured.

Dennis infiltrated the Xyz Dimension 3 years ago, but was slacking off with streets performances instead of looking for Ruri. Then he ended up finding her by coincidence and that's when he gave the "go-sign" to the invasion.

There was also more invasions even after Heartland's destruction, which is when Kite's family got carded.

The episode starts with Allen and Sayaka trying to tell Kaito to stop being stupidly unreasonable. Then Kaito just says "Duel" out of nowhere and Shun says "okay". They duel, Shun goes full FRIENDSHIP, Yuya casually reveals Ute's whereabouts, Sayaka shows her great regret from not being brave enough to join the Ruri vs Joeri duel she watched and the power of friendship lost.

I repeat, the power of friendship lost in a Yugioh anime. This is not drill. It really happened. I sincerely don't know what to believe in anymore.

Next time, apparently exposition on the Arc Area Project?

I know right. Nothing is safe. And Kaito was gonna card Kurosaki. He's really far gone. I'm more convinced than even that no matter how this ends, Yuya is gonna lose his make everyone smile philosophy. Or at least, he'll go through a similar arc to Judai where he's not able to enjoy duels anymore.

Sayaka's guilt over not helping Ruri could be the reason she currently basically overworks herself. Although, to be fair, had she tried to join, Yuri would probably have carded her on the spot.

So Shun has become a jobber. Ultimate Falcon is a bigger jobber than Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon. I dub thee, Ultimate Jobber.

And jesus, these duels are Zexal-tier duels, minus the lame-ass transformations. Who the fuck writes these duels?

And coming next: exposition on Academia and Arc-Area Project. Yuri arrives at Fusion You-Show School (RIP students). The Tyler Sisters Grace and Gloria (the twins from the opening) duel Sayaka and later defeat Sawatari and The Man before taking on Shun and Yuya in a duel.

I still want to know what's with Academia completely destroying Heartland, but only planning a black ops kidnapping on The City and Maiami. And why would they send Roget to act as a mole on Synchro. The timeline doesn't make much sense to be honest. Just for how long has Leo been planning the whole thing?

That's something I've also been wondering to be honest. What was different about Heartland that it required a full on invasion?

And I'm pretty sure Jean wasn't a mole. He left Academia and acted on his own.

Maybe to make sure the Numeron Code from Zexal didn't reappear in the XYZ dimension?

He obviously hated Zexal that much.

... I gotta admit, that's a pretty valid reason.

But I'm sure that the in-universe reason is much better.

Heh, I recall someone making a list of reasons why people should watch ARC-V, and one of them was "(...) so it in fact literally burns ZEXAL to the ground!"

...Damn, The Power of friendship really did fail. Holy Shit. This really Madoka Magica levels of Deconstruction at this point, when even the Staple of the franchise fails in series.

These writers are pretty clever.

Is Arc-V officially darker than 5D's now?

It's been darker since the dimensional war was revealed.

I'd say so. 5D's started dark, but ultimately became a Reconstruction of the series' tropes. Arc-V has been a long string of tearing apart or subverting every other anime for its entire run.

I'd like to point out this isn't the first time the power of friendship failed. Jim Vs. Supreme King, Aporia Vs. Z-ONE, Nash Vs. IV are just a few examples from three different series.

Its' technically the first time its happened with the characters that have been around in the series since it started.

All I'm saying is that this isn't a deconstruction since it's happened before, and it's going to get resolved with friendship later like the other series. This isn't as big of a deal as y'all are making it out to be.

I'm trying to find an example of it failing in DM, but my mind is drawing a blank.

Jim Vs. Supreme King was Jim trying to snap Judai out of his Brainwashed and Crazy state.

Aporia Vs. Z-ONE was about hope, not friendship.

Nash Vs. IV is Shark playing the Necessary Evil card. It's not about friendship, Shark is doing what he has to do to save his people.

Shun vs. Kaito is purely about The Power of Friendship failing.

Jim trying to snap Judai out of it was an act of friendship.

Aporia... Alright, sure.

Nash was playing the necessary evil card, sure. But IV was using pure, concentrated friendship to PREVENT Shark from becoming evil. And Nash. crushed said friendship, so it failed.

My difference of opinion comes from Kaito and Shun being longtime friends that grew apart tremendously, so they had a real friendship to bring up. That's all their duel was really about, no other circumstances.

Jim barley knew Judai, and helping him was solely about saving him rather than reminding him of their friendship.

Shark an VI were never friends, and stopping his invasion was the main priority.

Also remember the Barians were also Sharks friends sans VECTOR! Friendship wouldnt stop them from continuing. Even the ones they freed from Thousand brainwashing still planned to oppose them once Vector and Don were taken care of.

IV was indeed playing up the friendship spiel during that Duel, but Nasch's friendship with the Barians is just too much intense than his friendship with IV. Their strong True Companions antics are one the biggest reasons why the Barians are my favorite villain group.
