Okay, reading the new Avatar comic has made me realize we really need an Avatar RP on TV Tropes.

It can be anything, really. It can be set before the Hundred Year War, before Aang awoke, during Aang's adventures, after Aang's adventures, in the time between the two shows, in Republic City... anything.

I made this thread so I could find out who's interested and so we could plan something- anything- and get it going. So, who's interested? And who has any ideas for R Ps?

Ohh? What's this? Hmm, let me think for a while.

Interest, assuming my Writer's Block won't kill it.

Possible interest though I'm swamped with RP commitments right now. Still, I'll try to clear something up. Also, an idea I had was that we could be bounty hunters trying to capture Team Avatar. Maybe set during Book Two of the original series?

Yea, interest for me as well. I was thinking maybe of an RP set prior to the original series, where maybe some Earth Kingdom city was attacked by the Fire Nation, and we'd all draw up characters for either side, and we'd sort of just see where it went?

It could potentially develop in an interesting fashion. If the fire nation wins, what will the Earth characters do? And vice versa.

I like both of the ideas up there.

Playing a firebending spy sounds like so much fun.

I think it should be set on the Present so the players could meet the Avatar NPCs, that'd be the main draw. And besides you could always have a timeshift or spinoff to Korra's age with the players using new characters. And yes I'm interested, I'd probably play an Earthbender (assuming Airbenders are not available of course.)

Pretty interested. I don't have any ideas as of this moment though.

This looks quite fun! Consider me interested!

And I'm definitely being a firebender. Their style's the closest to my martial art.

As for a topic, why don't we try something in between the two series? I doubt that all the big wigs in the Fire Nation would leave their Earth Kingdom colonies just because Zuko told them to. We could get all three bending types to work as a special ops to free these colonies.

We also get Air Alcolytes!

... which are pretty much non-benders.

I propose something set faaaaar after both the original series and Korra. Like, a couple centuries.

Wouldn't we be heading into the terrifying universe of FAN SPECULATIOOOON?

Then again... bending in a modern world sounds cool...

Considering how much the world has evolved in the 70 years before the two series- and the technological advancements we saw glimpses of in Season 2 of Korra- I think the world of Avatar would be waaaay beyond our modern world in a few centuries.

Interested! Possibly on making a Waterbender.

As for where on the timeline... Hmmm I guess anything goes, though I'd prefer Avatar time or around it instead of a more modern setting. Still, I'd enjoy any one.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

So thinking on it, and how others might feel, the best few options would be:

  • Right around 100 AG, the year where Aang began his journey.
  • Sometime during the Hundred Year War, as the Fire Nation starts being serious dicks, and the Air Nomads are eventually wiped out.
  • After Ozai is defeated and Zuko is made the Fire Lord. I support this one the most, because I would love to see some stuff in here. There is a lot of clean up that needs to be made, technology to be discovered, etc. This time period is also know as the Harmony Restoration Movement.

Considering I liked that bounty hunters idea, I suppose 1 would be my choice.

Then again, it's not impossible to imagine someone trying to kill Aang and Zuko in order to put the righteous Fire Lord back in his place...

I like my own best, but the bounty hunter one would be my second choice.

Another option is to go the Alternate Universe route: otherwise, we'll always be constricted by what we know (and don't know) about the two series.

Now, exactly what this AU would be about, is a matter of debate. Our PCs screwing up with events in the show, maybe?

@Strato: I like your second idea more, but then we're faced with the awkward question of "who's going to play the canon characters?" If they're in danger, they'll have to be played by someone, which could really overshadow the OCs. Overall though, I like the Loyalist uprising idea; Ozai is still alive, so why shouldn't he still be Firelord, bender or not?

I'd prefer if the main characters stayed in the background, out of play, personally.

Me too. As stated previously, it would likely constrict things.

You know, if we set the time to like...20 years after Legend of Korra, we can have spirits as characters mingling with humans. Maybe we can make a plot about the inevitable conflicts and changes that go on? The Avatar and other canon characters wouldn't necessarily need to show up in person then, and that might allow a new age airbender to be used too.

Actually nothing prevents a player having a spirit PC (except the GM of course.) Korra made it so they can cross over more easily, but they still appeared on Avatar's World (uh, does this place have a canonical name? It's *not* Earth....) on occasion.

Yeah, but before the portals were permanently opened, spirits seemed kind of sparse in appearance outside of special locations. This would just gives them a reason to not be super rare.
