I think the image works on its own. The caption doesn't make sense as it is, so it can be removed.
Check out my fanfiction!Eeeeeh, while strictly speaking it works without the caption, it's remarkably weak. It was pretty obviously chosen for the caption's joke. There are probably stronger options out there that don't rely on the site's layout, and aren't pointing to absolutely nothing if lacking a caption.

Moon◊That looks like an obvious photoshop hack, putting letters over an image of a blank shirt. We should at least use a picture of a real shirt, such as this one◊, but Google turns up dozens of others.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Spark's image has the advantage that it allows to keep the caption.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe standard is images on the right, but we don't have to always follow this standard.
We could just move it back to the left where it makes more sense, and possibly replace it with a real "I'm with stupid" t-shirt.
It's pointing the wrong way. No ads on the right.

I think having an "I'm With Stupid" shirt is a good idea, since it's one of the more famous examples of humorous T-shirts, but the caption isn't doing much for me (also, it feels pretty dumb if you're using adblock). And if it's really a bad Photoshop job, it should probably be switched for a better picture.
Instead of trying to preserve the joke, how about something like this◊?
Articles with an image (whether the image has a caption or not is unimportant) but no page quote often have the image on the left, but many pages have both and the "TVT standard" layout is to put the image on the right in that case. The OP describes the problem as if it's a question of where the image goes, but really it's a question of whether that page quote should be there.
I vote: First, remove the page quote and put the current image back on the left, then decide if the image should be improved (for example decide whether the Spongebob suggestion is an improvement, or on keeping the joke but replacing it with a photograph, etc).
The author of this thread added the page quote, I removed it for being lame and for ruining the image joke, and the author added the quote a second time. This thread should have been started and resolved before making the same edit twice. Making the same edit twice is the definition of starting an edit war, especially if that's without any discussion.
By the way, the page quote in question is:
"DOES THAT [shirt] SAY 'WITCH AND FAMOUS'????!!!! WHY DOES THAT SAY 'WITCH AND FAMOUS'???!!!!"

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Nah. Just get a picture that is actually funny.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI wonder if our cart blanche status with xkcd extends to pictures from its store?
Moon◊IMO, the Spongebob suggestion is much better than the current.
I don't like page images that requires external sources (e.g. ads) to actually work - especially since the punchline may or may not deliver depending on what advertisement is currently displayed (or rendered completely useless if the browser has adblock).

I put in something at least better than that "with stupid" lameness.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyAgreed, that's much better, both for humor's sake and for not needing to preserve the old joke. Probably could stand to be downsized a bit (on my biggest monitor it hangs a tetch below the divider line) but other than that I think we're done here. Thoughts?
It's good, it just ended the discussion kinda abruptly. I think I might have too much Ah in my system. *shrug*

Moon◊Okay. That made me laugh. I'm actually fine with it.
Image Source. Please update whenever an image is changed.I've downsized the pic to 300 px...it makes the compacted folders a little wonky but it shouldn't go below the example line on a big monitor now. I've also tagged the page as normal. Locking up.
The image refers to pointing at ads; however, because current image protocol has images on the right side of the screen, it's pointing at the text.
So should the caption be somehow reworked with this in mind? Or should we just switch out the image?
