It's meant to be ambiguous.

He claimed in Arkham City that he intended to give Joker the cure, but Hallucination Joker in Knight implies that he only said that to rub salt in the wound in the Joker's final moments. The truth is up to audience interpretation. There may not be an answer at all; Batman was robbed of the opportunity to choose, and so it may just be an unanswered question that will haunt him to the end of his days.

After all, it's easy to say what you would do in that situation than it is to stand there and do it.

If there's one thing that bothered me about Knight, I feel like it never gave closure to Batman's mental state in Arkham City.

Like, Batman becomes all bitter and morose, separating himself from his allies during HQR... and then they just skip ahead by a year or so and never address that again.

I think that did influence how Batman acts during Arkham Knight, it was just subtle. I think that Batman became a lot more scared of putting his allies in danger after Talia died. He's fine with having them run errands for him, but he pretty much needs to be forced to fight alongside them. When Nightwing shows up, Batman does everything he can to get him to leave, even though the entire city is overrun. If nothing else, you'd think he could at least have him try to contain the rioters. Batman also insists that he doesn't need Robin's help and that he should keep working on the cure. Throughout the night, Alfred is the only one of his allies who isn't held hostage at some point, and his final words to Nightwing and Catwoman, along with how easily he surrenders to Scarecrow, made me think that he was ready to put Batman to rest regardless of how things played out.

I had a Fridge Brilliance moment in regards to the Batmobile. The old Batmobile was depicted as a two-seater. The new one only has one seat, and even Batman's friends have to ride in the seats in the back. I though this could be symbolic of Batman isolating himself from everyone else.

The story of Batman Arkham is Batman destroying himself, being His Own Worst Enemy. Arkham Knight brings that to the culmination...since the Joker Hallucination is plainly Bruce's dark side.

Guess there's some kind of WB sale going on at Playstation. I just got the first batch of Mortal Kombat X DLC for 10 bucks, and the Arkham Knight season pass for $22.

By the way, with the latest DLC, Arkham Knight becomes, I believe, the game with the most trophies on Playstation, beating out Uncharted 3.

A PS 4 HD update of Batman: Arkham Asylum and City? Neato.

Still gonna pass though. No point going through the games again, especially when I still own both, plus Arkham Knight.

I know this is supposed to be the grand finale for the series, but I wouldn't mind another game in the series based on the Battle For The Cowl idea. Azrael, Jason, Tim, Dick, etc. Hush would make an interesting adversary in a world where Batman is exposed, and neither the public nor the gaming audience isn't sure what to think about his "death." It could even pull in characters and plotlines from Dick and Tim's sub-mythoses to add to the verse, both in the main game and in most wanted missions.

On the other hand, it also occurs to me just how badly Bats fucked up Hush's plans in this continuity. He can't even escape and masquerade as Bruce like he did for a while in the comics.

Okay, after months of effort, I have finally gotten all of the Batmobile and Predator map AR Challenge trophies!

That means all I have left are A Matter of Family, Seasons of Infamy (both of which I've been saving for after the bulk of the non-story trophies; a lesson I learned with Arkham City, where I'm still going after Catwoman Riddler maps), and the Community Challenges (which I would've done before the story content, but I wanted to have something left to use the full completion Batsuit with).

[up][up] Personally, I'd love to see an Arkham-verse take on Batman Beyond. Terry certainly has a large enough Rogues Gallery to provide a healthy supply of boss battles, and I challenge you to tell me that you wouldn't like flying by jetboots over Gotham.

As long as it's City's version of the Beyond suit and not Knight's.

What even was that? Why include that version in the game? If they didn't want the Batman Beyond suit why come up with something else and call it that suit?

I like that version, but I do prefer the City suit.

City's version of the Beyond suit made it clear just how bad that thing looks when rendered on an actual person, rather than a stylized character like in the DCAU art style.

I'm ambivalent about the Knight Beyond suit. On the one hand, it's a good update to the concept that makes it fit Batman himself a little bit better. On the other hand, it's ultimately a departure from a lot of the original concept's characteristics.

Finally picked this up.

And I'm not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. I liked Asylum and City back when they came out. This feels... different.

  • The reliance on the Batmobile isn't sitting well with me - I never wanted the bloody car in the first place. It's taking some getting used to; hit the wrong button and I summon the car remotely. The animation looks cool, but that's about it. As far as I can tell street encounters are mostly pointless, shallow affairs that shouldn't be bothered with.
  • I can't remember if City had AR challenges but I certainly don't like them here. I don't feel obligated to go after any of the side missions.
  • Batman's face and cowl look weird on PS 4.
  • What's the point in showing me a waypoint to random mook conversations when the arrows disappear in seconds?
  • I want to believe that AK's private army is an actual, credible Elite Mook squad... but so far I'm up to the "rescue Catwoman" mission and haven't used any upgrade points so...
  • I find it hard to believe that Batman isn't even remotely interested in asking other people for help. The constant evasion of Tim is getting pretty aggravating.
  • Riddler challenges are at their all time most irritating. I have no idea how or why Riddler can set up gigantic racetracks in the sewers of Gotham, or how he comes up with any of the BS he's jerry-rigged around Gotham. I hate that there's riddles that can't be solved until later - one riddle I'm almost certain is located inside or around the clocktower, and the location (I even Youtubed it) is inside a spot where, in my game, the door is just closed.
  • The biography section is, naturally, for people who have never touched a Batman comic before or an Arkham game before, and I really don't understand why Rocksteady continues to cater to these people who probably shouldn't be picking up the fourth game in the series IF THEY DON'T KNOW WHO THESE CHARACTERS ARE BY NOW.
  • Why can the Batmobile destroy cars and building supports and tear through asphalt and concrete, but the main artillery gun can't shoot through garage doors or any place a mission deems important to some form of platforming puzzle? Why does Batman use a crane to manuever his car to the other side of a complex instead of just summoning the Batplane? For that matter why did I need my car for that at all? Why couldn't I just cause a controlled explosion to clear the way?

The presentation is fantastic - seeing the Batmobile slide through Gotham's night scene (albeit chaotically whenever the game forces me to chase after someone), the Fear takedowns that have Bruce flying from bad guy to bad guy rendering each one unconscious in the span of seconds, the new enemy tactics/models.

I can accept the other things, but something core to this franchise is just missing. I can't put my finger on it.

Maybe it's that I haven't strung someone up on a gargoyle yet. I don't think I've even had the opportunity to do so.

Maybe it's substance? City's overworld was densely packed and most areas had something to do (be it a sidequest or a Riddler trophy) while everything in Knight is sparsely spread out and there's no real "exploration" element underneath the whole thing- it's almost entirely a point-A-to-B affair.

When bigger games give you something to quickly traverse their world with, everything starts to feel smaller and less-fleshed out as a result. Doubly so if there's a lot of empty space and no actual incentive to stop and smell roses.

Could be, definitely is that.

I picked this up again and I'm just zipping between Riddler locations wondering why I'm even bothering, or if I should go help Barbara, or deal with the other 10 dirty bombs in Gotham.

I also don't really understand the complaint about the biographies. For a lot of people, these games really ARE the entry point to the franchise, or at least to certain characters. I know a lot of people were surprised by characters like Professor Pyg or Deacon Blackfire, and wanted to learn more about them. Also, while ideally, someone would have picked up the previous installments, a lot of people don't, so sequels try to be more inclusive and include recaps or re-introductions to characters. It's not something just these games do.
